Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 15th January, 2001 - A Pink Tutu Dream in the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-clad traveller, back from a whirlwind week in the Big Apple! I can hardly believe it's already Monday again, the time has flown by. And I haven't even mentioned the most fantastic news... This post marks blog post number 293! Can you believe it? A whole host of pink-tutu-infused memories, all neatly stored in this little corner of the internet. I’m still in a bit of a daze from the incredible week I just had here in New York. I’m so lucky to be able to share all of this with you, it really makes the journey all the more worthwhile. So, without further ado, grab a cup of something pink and let me whisk you away to the dazzling streets of New York!

A Touch of Derbyshire in New York

I often get asked, "Emma, how do you manage to travel the world, especially with that fabulous pink tutu?" Well, it's a bit of a balancing act, I’ll admit. My ballet performances are how I fund my adventures. They’re the perfect combination of passion and practicality. Plus, a bit of magical pirouette is all it takes to make a little money and fill my dance card for a whole new city. It’s all about finding that happy medium, isn't it?

This week I felt a little twinge of nostalgia for my Derbyshire roots. New York, in its bustling, urban chaos, is a world away from the rolling hills and quaint villages of my hometown. Yet, despite the difference, I couldn’t help but find a certain charm in it all. It was a strange feeling to be surrounded by so much excitement, knowing I could also find a bit of quiet comfort in my tutu – just like I do in my home village.

My Big Apple Ballerina Dreams Come True

New York City was practically made for a tutu! The energy here is absolutely intoxicating, and there are so many incredible opportunities to get your dance on. I spent a glorious afternoon taking a ballet class at the illustrious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in West 42nd Street. I have always loved their work, their stories of hope, strength, and resilience, and their passion for community resonates deeply with my own philosophy.

And to top it all off, I was lucky enough to grab tickets to see the dazzling ‘Nutcracker' at Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House! There’s nothing like the sheer elegance of a traditional ballet production. All the details – from the meticulously crafted sets to the stunning costumes – took my breath away. The beautiful story brought a little bit of Christmas magic to my New York experience, even though the snow has melted and the shops are already decorated with red hearts for Valentine’s Day.

Fashion Finds in the Big Apple

Naturally, I couldn't resist exploring some of New York’s iconic shops for some new additions to my wardrobe. From vintage delights in the Lower East Side to designer masterpieces on Madison Avenue, there was something for every taste and budget.

My personal favourite was a delightful little boutique called "Tutu & Pearls" in SoHo, filled to the brim with pink delights. They had everything from sparkly ballerina flats to sequined dresses, all with a touch of Parisian elegance. I walked out with a pair of the most exquisite ballerina shoes in the palest shade of pink imaginable. I simply couldn't leave them behind, they were too perfect to pass up!

The Magic of the Subway

I have to tell you, I’ve had the absolute time of my life exploring New York by metro. Every stop is like a new adventure. Whether it's observing the lively street performers at Times Square or watching the world go by through the panoramic windows of the Seventh Avenue Line, the city truly comes alive underground.

My favourite spot has to be the Grand Central Terminal. Its grandeur, history, and breathtaking architecture leave you feeling both awe-struck and inspired. As I floated through the crowds, with my pink tutu fluttering behind me, I felt a surge of excitement and creativity, fueled by the city’s incredible energy and history.

What to Look for This Week…

Today, New York is hosting its annual Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory, showcasing a selection of furniture and decorative objects from centuries past. The show offers a captivating journey through time, celebrating the timeless beauty of antiques.

If you’re in New York, I highly recommend taking a wander around. Who knows what treasures you might stumble upon? But please, dear readers, no matter what you choose to buy or browse, please do make sure your outfit is as spectacularly pink as you can make it!

Keep Sparkling, Stay Pink, and Happy Travels!

Yours Always,

Emma
