Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 30th July 2001 - Post #321

Hello darlings!

It's Monday again, which means a new week of adventures in the Big Apple for your favourite tutu-wearing blogger. This week, I'm all about that New York state of mind. Remember that time when the song "Empire State of Mind" came out by Alicia Keys? Oh, my, I was obsessed! And I have to say, every time I see those iconic skyscrapers, I'm totally transported to that song's amazing energy. It's all about how New York makes you feel, you know? I feel like I can conquer anything when I'm in this city.

Now, I know you all must be thinking about how much fun I must be having in the city that never sleeps! I assure you, darlings, I'm having the time of my life. This week was all about dancing my heart out and enjoying the city's fabulous theatre scene. Let's dive in, shall we?

The Power of Pink Tutu-Wearing in NYC

You know me, darling – a splash of pink makes any occasion spectacular! I always pack my favourite pink tutu, and this week, I even wore it while travelling the metro. Can you imagine? I actually had quite a few fellow commuters give me compliments and even a couple of people asking for pictures. They told me I reminded them of their childhood dreams! It was amazing to see so much positivity and excitement generated by a little bit of pink and twirling. Honestly, seeing people's smiles and the pure joy my tutu brought to them truly made my day.

I truly believe that we all need a little more pink and a little more sparkle in our lives! My goal in life is to get everyone wearing pink tutus. And when I'm in NYC, you better believe I'm putting that plan into action, one spin at a time.

Broadway Buzz: The Lion King

Let me tell you, this was a highlight of the week! My dear friend, Emily (who’s also a massive ballet fan), and I snagged tickets to see "The Lion King" on Broadway, and honestly, I don't think we can stop talking about it. The costumes were spectacular, and the music had us singing along throughout the show. We especially loved the puppetry – it was so beautifully done. The show truly was a masterpiece, with such stunning visuals and a powerful message about the circle of life. And the talent! I'm blown away by all of these incredible artists. It was one of those magical moments that really stay with you, you know?

Now, I won't tell you who sang my favourite song! It was quite a difficult choice as the singing was incredible! If you want to know, you'll just have to go see it yourself and tell me your favourite!

After the show, Emily and I found a gorgeous Italian restaurant for dinner just down the road from the theatre. The food was incredible (and the portions were so big! Maybe it's just the NYC vibe!) and we chatted for hours about our favorite moments from the show. Emily even surprised me by giving me a beautiful little souvenir from the shop: a handmade miniature lion costume – it was just darling! She truly is the best.

The Thrill of Ballet

Every visit to New York is incomplete without seeing a ballet performance. I was fortunate enough to catch a wonderful show by the New York City Ballet last night at Lincoln Center. The dancing was breathtaking, especially in the last part of the show. I truly believe ballet is like another language, so beautifully and expertly performed that it speaks volumes without a single word. I was awestruck.

They say a dancer is just a little bit obsessed. I won't disagree! However, the beauty, dedication, talent and precision that went into this performance was inspirational. To have the chance to see something so phenomenal so often in the city just fuels my own love for ballet. There is so much I could say, but the truth is I simply cannot fully explain the beauty of watching ballet to anyone.

And don’t even get me started on the fashion, darlings. All those amazing dancers were all clad in the most breathtaking tutus and costumes – some pink, of course, which delighted me, and some shimmering with diamonds. I swear I could have spent hours just gazing at them.

Of course, no ballet viewing experience is complete without a fabulous post-show meal and discussion with like-minded souls, so I met up with some of the fellow ballet enthusiasts I'd met earlier this week at an adorable bistro across the road from the venue. The conversation was flowing, just as much as the delicious wine!

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!

You already know me and my love for a little bit of shopping, right? Well, you guys wouldn’t believe what I stumbled upon in SoHo this week – the most stunning pair of pink ballet shoes I’ve ever seen. Now, these shoes are made from some gorgeous satin, with a delicate touch of glitter and a soft, pink ribbon. Honestly, I couldn’t resist them. I plan to wear them on my next performance. They would go so perfectly with my beautiful new pink tutu. The one with all the pink glitter! I must show you all a picture sometime.

I can't believe how fast this week has flown by, darlings! I’m so excited to see what adventures the rest of July holds. I know there are more fantastic theatre productions to see and maybe, just maybe, a chance to slip into another new ballet class and let those tutus twirl!

As I leave you with a fond farewell for now, let me just remind you, darling, never forget to wear a pink tutu with confidence.

And, of course, don't forget to tune in next Monday for a fresh installment of the Pink Tutu Blog!

With all my love and glitter,

Emma xoxo
