Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 3rd September 2001 - #326 - New York City Ballet - And a Tutu for Everyone!

Hello my darling darlings, and welcome back to my weekly dose of pink, sequins, and all things fabulous! Today, I'm writing to you from the Big Apple itself, the city that never sleeps! As always, New York has welcomed me with open arms (and a million flashing lights, it feels like!) It's been a whirlwind of a weekend, crammed full of the best things New York has to offer: ballet, shopping, and delicious, delicious food!

Before I delve into my exciting adventures, let's have a little chat about what happened last week. Remember how I said that my mission is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu? Well, my little dream became a reality this weekend! I was in the heart of Times Square, enjoying a little slice of pizza (can't resist it, darling!), when I saw this adorable little girl, no more than four, sporting the cutest pink tutu I had ever seen! My heart melted. She looked like a tiny ballerina, twirling around, radiating pure joy.

Now, the most beautiful thing about seeing her? This little one wasn't at a ballet class or performance, she was simply with her mum and dad, enjoying the city. And that's what makes me so thrilled - my tutu-wearing dream isn't about forcing people to dress a certain way, but encouraging them to find the fun, the magic, and the happiness within themselves! A pink tutu is about embracing your inner child, your playful side, your zest for life!

New York City Ballet: A Ballet Dream Come True

So, after that heartwarming encounter, I was ready to delve back into the magical world of ballet! And speaking of magic, I went to the New York City Ballet on Friday. The New York City Ballet is considered one of the greatest ballet companies in the world, and I was positively delighted to finally be able to see them in action. The venue itself, the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, was absolutely breathtaking! It’s grand and opulent with shimmering gold, elegant white and crimson accents – the perfect setting for a magical ballet performance.

I chose a stunning coral pink dress for the occasion. Its shimmering fabric and swirling design evoked a graceful, elegant, and - dare I say it - tutu inspired look! I paired it with a black clutch and my signature black ballerina pumps with a subtle hint of sparkle (of course).

The ballet itself was spectacular. Every movement, every expression, every nuance of the dancers’ bodies – it was utterly mesmerizing! The company, composed of incredibly talented artists from around the globe, displayed their skills with passion, grace, and extraordinary athleticism. They weaved tales of love, loss, and redemption with their fluid movements, breathtaking artistry, and compelling emotion. The beauty and perfection of it all left me in awe. It was like a dream I didn't want to wake up from.

The Metro and Shopping Spree

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without exploring its bustling metro system! I navigated the underground with confidence - trust me, darling, there's no time for hesitation when the rush hour in New York kicks in! Despite the crowds, the vibrant energy, and the flashing lights, I felt right at home. In fact, the whole city seems to thrum with a kind of infectious excitement that is contagious, it gets into your bones!

You wouldn't believe the wonderful treasures I found on my shopping adventures. There's something about this city that just makes me want to embrace colour and sparkle. And, to no one's surprise, pink and glitter reigned supreme!

I stumbled upon a little boutique on the Upper East Side that sells the most divine shoes - glittering stilettos, delicate ballet flats, and the most dazzling platforms. It was practically a shoe lover's heaven! And you know me, a bit of glitter and some feminine charm - it's all I need! I bought a pair of exquisite, baby-pink satin pumps with a silver buckle. I’ve already envisioned them perfectly complementing a beautiful vintage lace dress. Just picture it!

And who doesn't love a good bargain? I ventured into SoHo to scour the boutiques, thrift stores, and flea markets, hunting for some fabulous vintage finds. It wasn't easy finding time for everything I wanted to do - New York offers so much! I'm pretty sure I'm already planning my next trip back.

Dinner & Delicious Treats

My weekend wouldn't have been complete without indulging in some fantastic food. From juicy burgers with crispy fries, to heavenly Italian dishes in charming trattorias, to the most divine pastries in bakeries with beautiful, old-world charm - every meal was a treat for the senses.

On Saturday evening, I dined at this gorgeous bistro tucked away on a side street in Greenwich Village. Their signature dishes – juicy salmon and crispy artichoke hearts, drizzled with lemon and herbs – were absolutely delicious! I couldn’t resist their irresistible creme brulee – creamy, caramelized perfection. It truly was the perfect end to an amazing day in the city.

But remember my mission: Pink is for Everyone!

I wanted to find the best pink treat possible, so I decided to treat myself to a pink-tinted, iced-coffee drink in Central Park!

Now, I have to tell you, darling, this coffee shop wasn't your typical "coffee shop" by any means! It was a beautiful little cottage with windows opening out onto the lush greenery of the park. You could feel the serene atmosphere even with the busy city streets bustling outside. I loved it!

I chose my pink iced coffee - just imagine it, delicate floral notes with a touch of sweet vanilla - all while basking in the summer sunshine! It felt absolutely luxurious! The coffee was light and airy with just the right hint of sweetness – a beautiful pink color, of course!

The icing on the cake, (so to speak!), was seeing so many families and couples enjoying Central Park - they were all decked out in their summery best! Children laughed and played, couples strolled hand-in-hand, and everyone was just so full of life.

A Little Bit of Homesickness

While I love the vibrancy and energy of this amazing city, even the most dedicated fashionista needs a little reminder of home sometimes! Luckily, the theatre in New York provided just that.

The week's Broadway offering, "The Phantom of the Opera," sent me on a nostalgic journey right back to the days of my childhood in Derbyshire. I was immediately transported to the classic opera houses in the UK, which brought a warmth to my heart as I sat nestled amongst the other audience members.

There's something truly special about classic shows - the power of their timeless stories, the beautiful melodies that stir your soul. They never fail to take you back to your childhood, your first time experiencing the magic of theatre, your very first performance! Seeing these shows again, years later, made me appreciate their artistry all over again.

Now, darling, it’s time for me to wind this up, as there are so many more places I want to discover and so many more experiences I want to soak up in this amazing city! Stay tuned for my next blog post!

Keep your eyes open for more Pink Tutu moments wherever you are. Spread a little bit of fun and magic with every pink twirl you make. Don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina - pink tutu or no pink tutu!

Until next time,

Love, Emma xx
