Pink Tutu Blog: NYC #349 - A February Ballet Blitz!
Helloooo my dearest Tutu Tribe! It's Monday, so that can only mean one thing...it's time for a fresh dose of New York City magic, straight from the tutu-wearing, pink-loving heart of yours truly! 🩰💕
This week has been a whirlwind of feathers, sequins, and leaps, as I've been diving headfirst into the ballet scene here in the Big Apple. Let me tell you, the energy in the city just bubbles with artistic life!
I'm posting this from my little pink-tinged haven, my favourite café in Greenwich Village. It's tucked away on a quiet cobblestone street, and it's practically dripping with vintage charm. Just outside, the city roars, with taxi horns and the pitter-patter of rain (which adds a little extra charm to this urban wonderland, if you ask me). But in this corner of paradise, surrounded by the scent of strong coffee and freshly baked pastries, I'm feeling a wave of utter serenity.
It's been a week of grand performances, incredible finds, and an abundance of fashion inspiration!
Before I dive into all the delicious details, I wanted to take a moment to wish my dear Tutu Tribe a very happy Monday. You guys are the fuel that keeps my heart dancing! ❤️ And don't forget to follow along on Insta (@pinktutuemma) for more snippets of my New York adventure. Now, let's get back to the good stuff!
Opening Night Fever
This week kicked off with a bang at the Metropolitan Opera, where I snagged some prime seats for the New York City Ballet's performance of Swan Lake. Ooh la la! This is the kind of event that gets my heart pounding faster than a triple pirouette. The costumes, the music, the storytelling, and of course, the incredible athleticism of the dancers – it was simply a dream!
The production felt both classic and modern at the same time, which was delightful! They didn't shy away from the iconic black swan and white swan duality, but the choreography felt fresh and captivating. The whole performance left me feeling like I could fly!
And speaking of flying, did you catch my outfit? I couldn't resist rocking my new feather boa for the occasion, with my trusty pink tutu, of course! 🎀 I received some delightful compliments, too, from fellow ballet enthusiasts, all about the sparkle of my tutu and the colour clash of the boa. Let's just say it was a "tutu good" look!
After the performance, I mingled with some charming, fellow ballet aficionados at the nearby Metropolitan Opera House bar. You wouldn't believe the fascinating conversations we had about different dance styles, iconic ballerinas, and everything in between! I even got invited to a special ballet cocktail party this weekend - which I can't wait to tell you all about next week!
Shopping Splurge & Pink Parades
No trip to New York is complete without a little retail therapy! The week before, I'd spent a day at the iconic Bloomingdale's, and let's just say I went a bit crazy in the shoe department. You know, my collection is still growing – gotta represent that feminine spirit! 👠 And, of course, I snagged a few new tutus, which are already being showcased in my next ballet performance back in England next month.
But let's be real, it wasn't all tutus and feather boas. I had to balance out the feminine charm with a bit of edge. I was lucky to stumble across the most incredible vintage clothing shop hidden away on the Lower East Side. Think silk kimonos with intricate patterns, sleek, high-waisted skirts, and some of the coolest denim jackets I've ever seen!
I snagged myself a gorgeous vintage jacket with a little punk rock twist - a bit of black leather with spikes, perfectly paired with a vintage floral blouse that I plan to wear in my next blog post. A bit of rebelliously stylish for my Pink Tutu Tribe!
After all the shopping shenanigans, I took a delightful ride on the iconic yellow subway! I couldn't help but smile, gazing out at the bustling streets, the colourful murals, and the vibrant people – this city truly captivates the heart! I love riding the metro, there is always an amazing show happening around me - it's like the biggest dance floor ever, full of rhythm and personality!
And if you ask me, New York is the ultimate fashion playground, brimming with individual style and fierce personalities. Everyone looks effortlessly stylish, like they’re ready for a red carpet photoshoot every day!
I am absolutely obsessed with this city's diverse fashion scene, so naturally, I spent a few evenings snapping pictures and getting my outfit inspiration on. My favourite fashion hotspots are, of course, the bustling sidewalks around Soho and the artistic haven of Greenwich Village.
The women in NYC know how to pull off chic yet effortless looks with their stylish ensembles and those incredible vintage finds! And of course, you just know a Pink Tutu will always make a statement on the streets of New York.
The Sweetest Ballet Class
No ballet week in New York is complete without a class at a few of the prestigious dance studios! This week, I found myself enrolled in a drop-in barre class at a gorgeous studio in Brooklyn, where the music was bumping and the instructors were inspiring. You could tell that everyone there, whether they were seasoned professionals or absolute beginners, was filled with a shared passion for dance. It was an amazing way to meet new people and improve my technique, you know, it's all about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, and let's be honest, it's a great workout!
Food for the Soul (and for My Tutu) 🍹🍰
Let’s face it, a ballet trip isn't just about tutus and pointe shoes. It’s also about fuel – the fuel to keep my soul dancing and my body fueled for the countless hours I spend on my feet. New York City has no shortage of delicious culinary treats, but there are a few places that hold a special place in my heart, including this incredible little Italian bistro tucked away in a quiet nook of SoHo!
Every single bite at this place tastes like pure Italian sunshine, with flavours that tantalise and aromas that fill the air! And naturally, they have the sweetest, pinkest desserts in the entire city. You're not dreaming! It’s like the place was created just for me! My absolute favourites? A slice of their signature "Rosa" cheesecake, with a light rose water aroma and a gorgeous, pink glaze - perfect for a ballerina on the go. I mean, my Tutu always needs a bit of fuel, right?
Back to My Roots: Derbyshire to New York
You guys know that my passion for ballet isn't just a whim. It's my heart and soul. My journey to becoming a professional ballerina began in a little studio in Derbyshire, England, and it's that unwavering love for dance that brings me to vibrant New York City every chance I get.
The city never fails to inspire, to energise, and to remind me why I do what I do. Every ballet show, every new tutu I find, every time I feel the thrum of New York City’s heartbeat around me – it's a testament to the power of chasing your dreams and never giving up. So here's to dreams big and small, to passion, to perseverance, and to spreading a little bit of pink tutu magic around the world! 💖
I'm excited for what's in store for next week in NYC, with more fashion finds, more ballet shows, and more moments of magic to share with my Tutu Tribe.
So, remember to keep dancing, keep believing, and never ever stop wearing that pink tutu!
Until next Monday, dear Tutu Tribe!
Love,
Emma xx
