Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Post 357 🩰✨

Hello darlings!

It's Monday, which means it's time for another New York City blog post! This week has been a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and fun – all whilst wearing, of course, my trusty pink tutu!

I arrived in the Big Apple on Thursday morning, having flown from the UK, a quick, 7-hour flight from the green fields of Derbyshire to the bustling streets of New York. The journey was surprisingly smooth, and the excitement of the city never fades for me. I always feel like a child on Christmas morning when I get off that plane, giddy with anticipation.

A Tutu in the City That Never Sleeps

My journey from the airport to my temporary haven in Midtown was, of course, by Metro. What else could a proper New York experience be without it? I adore the bustle of the subway – everyone in a hurry, going about their day, yet somehow it feels so intimate, with a sense of shared experience.

My flat for this week is adorable, it’s like something out of a movie set! It’s quaint but very well located, in the heart of Midtown, only a few minutes’ walk from Central Park. I can hear the sound of birds chirping every morning and watch the sun rise over the skyline, making my early starts more pleasant! But before you think I'm all about dainty elegance, let me assure you: I always travel with my trusty pink tutu packed – just in case an opportunity to dance my heart out pops up!

A Feast for the Eyes (and Tummy!)

Friday was all about fashion and theatre. It was like something straight out of a movie. You can't go to New York without visiting Broadway! And so I found myself mesmerised by 'Cats', the show about a tribe of feline spirits. It was colourful, imaginative, and of course, the choreography was truly magical! It took my breath away and transported me to a whimsical world of furry performers! But it was so much more than a musical – it felt like an event! The vibrant costumes and the incredible make-up that the actors wore brought the characters to life! The performance even had me wishing for cat ears of my own – and perhaps a fancy little cat tail too!

Afterwards, a fabulous fashion show caught my eye. There’s an elegant French boutique near my flat called “Les Filles Roses” – a pink heaven, really! Their collection was all about delicate lace and pretty pastels, perfectly matched to my style – oh, to have it all! There were gowns that shimmered like a summer’s dream and intricate little pink dresses that looked straight out of a ballerina's wardrobe! After the show, they kindly gave me some delectable French macarons as a sweet goodbye. And you know what? I can’t imagine anything more delicious!

A New York Dance Studio and Ballet Dreams

Saturday, as usual, meant an early wake-up call, a hot cup of Earl Grey, and a morning ballet class at a renowned dance studio in Chelsea. “The Dance Atelier” was a breath of fresh air! I loved their airy studio filled with the warmth of natural sunlight. They had these beautiful mirrors along the wall, so you could keep an eye on your posture while practicing your pirouettes!

What a lovely and supportive bunch of instructors – truly encouraging even beginners like myself. As usual, my little pink tutu became a source of amusement! The instructors laughed, saying "Pink, isn't it lovely?" with an infectious sparkle in their eyes. It felt fantastic to move my body again after the flight, feeling those familiar stretches and working on the elegant leaps and turns we had learnt. For me, ballet is a journey – each session a chance to rediscover my strength and graceful poise!

Later, my fellow dance students (or should I say, fellow dancers!), and I headed to the famous The Carnegie Hall in Midtown to enjoy the “Ballet Gala”. A delightful mixture of diverse dances – traditional Russian, lyrical Spanish and elegant French – each one had something different to offer! And then there was this one specific ballet with the beautiful choreography, "La Valse de Fleurs" – oh my, those beautiful pirouettes! The lead ballerina was simply divine! She truly had this effortless grace. This incredible talent reminded me of what inspires me and fuels my passion for ballet.

That night, feeling both exhausted and exhilarated, I popped back to my little apartment to dream of elegant swans, leaping fairies and whirling pirouettes! And as usual, my pink tutu rested happily beside me.

An Adventure in Central Park

Sunday began with a delightful wander around Central Park. Oh, what a perfect blend of nature's grandeur and the city's vibrancy. I felt like I'd been transported into a fairy tale as I strolled through the emerald meadows with towering trees casting cool shadows around me. I couldn’t resist getting a couple of cute, oversized sunglasses and a big floppy straw hat for my little picnic. I am quite certain this will be my new "look".

Central Park’s vibe was electric; you can hear children’s laughter and the music of street performers and musicians. I stumbled upon a young lady practicing a ballet sequence – her movements were effortless. Such elegance, just like a dancing blossom swaying in the wind!

Feeling inspired and ready to dance myself, I grabbed my ballet shoes and set off to the Bethesda Terrace, where a little performance area drew crowds with its delightful melodies and vibrant costumes. I danced with a group of lovely ladies from New York's "Ballet Society." Their moves were intricate and fast! I had to admit, they could certainly put me to shame, and for the first time I thought to myself “Maybe a new pink tutu with sequins is needed”.

A Monday to Remember!

Here I am on Monday, with a day filled with a "The New York Ballet" performance at Lincoln Center! I've already picked my seat in the orchestra section and booked a cute, little table at “Rose & Bloom Cafe” for some brunch and champagne afterward!

Every day I'm filled with excitement. There is so much to see and do in this city! Every morning, I wake up and get that same jolt of happiness – feeling completely inspired by this city! I'm already looking forward to my next New York adventure and have my fingers crossed that I'll stumble across some fantastic street ballet performances.

Well, that's it for this week's blog. Keep dreaming of pink tutus and remember to wear them whenever you can! As always, leave a comment, send me a message – and stay fabulous!

Love,

Emma 💕🩰
