Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Adventures (Post #385)

Monday, 21st October 2002

Hello my lovely pink tutu-loving friends! 🩰 It's Emma here, reporting live from the dazzling concrete jungle that is New York City! ✨ I'm still buzzing from the weekend - so much to tell you all about it, and I just have to get these thoughts out, so I hope you're ready for another long one, full of frills, fashion, and, of course, fabulous ballet!

From the Derbyshire Dales to the Big Apple

As you know, I live and breathe for all things ballet. This is what funds my travel, from little performances in charming village halls in my beloved Derbyshire to larger-than-life shows on grand stages like the one I'm currently standing in front of here in NYC. Speaking of which, my journey began with a twirling rush, packed full of all my favourite tutus (pink, naturally), sparkly dresses, and enough hairspray to tame a flock of flamingos. The tube journey from Derbyshire was pretty painless, thank goodness. I swear, there’s nothing I love more than zipping around a bustling city, feeling the excitement building as each stop takes me closer to the heart of my adventures.

The Metropolitan Opera House: A Ballerina’s Paradise

As soon as I stepped out of the station and saw the grandeur of the Metropolitan Opera House, I could hardly believe it was real. The intricate architecture, the red carpet beckoning me, the air electric with anticipation – I practically felt the whole place pulsate with the energy of the ballet! You could say I was a little excited!

This weekend, I had the immense pleasure of witnessing a performance of Giselle. It was breathtaking. I was blown away by the athleticism and artistry of the dancers. Their movements were so precise and fluid, yet passionate and full of heart, that I could feel tears prick my eyes at times. It truly is a marvel how something so simple yet profound can communicate so much emotion.

The Grandiose Wardrobe: Where Ballet Meets Fashion

Afterwards, there was just time to head to one of my favourite shops in New York. Now, for you to truly appreciate this store, imagine an abundance of stunning costumes, glittering like jewels. There are tiers and tiers of tulle, satin, velvet, and sequins in every colour you can dream of. It's a symphony of fabric and glamour, and as a dancer and a lover of all things pink, it’s a wonderland for me.

But it's not just about costumes. I spent a good few hours wandering through the clothes sections, finding the perfect vintage top for tonight's show, and I even treated myself to a beautiful pink sequined dress for next weekend's ballet gala. What can I say, the city knows how to dress me up!

Pink Tutu Project: Taking Manhattan By Storm

And guess what? My pink tutu mission is going splendidly. There were a couple of other tutu wearers strutting their stuff on the subway on Friday - it truly makes me smile when I see others proudly sporting pink! I had a brilliant chat with this girl in Central Park wearing a gorgeous baby pink number with little butterfly wings. Turns out, she started wearing pink tutus because of my blog - a truly amazing feeling! 💖

Honestly, it’s moments like this that really make me feel like I’m spreading some pink magic! I always feel like a complete princess in my tutu, and seeing others embracing their own unique version of tutu-chic fills me with pure joy. I firmly believe that the world needs more tutus, more pink, more confidence! So if you're ever feeling a little blah, why not embrace your inner princess? 👸 Grab a pink tutu, twirl like no one is watching, and you’ll see what I mean!

New York City Ballet: A Masterclass in Magic

This week, I'm super excited for a night of contemporary ballet at the New York City Ballet. Their pieces always push the boundaries of traditional ballet, blending storytelling, movement, and music into something absolutely spellbinding.

And if that wasn’t enough, after the show I have a lovely evening planned, indulging in some classic NYC nightlife, catching a live band, and dancing the night away! Perhaps a little bit of salsa? Maybe even some jitterbug? Oh, I can’t wait!

But before I leave you all, here’s a sneak peek into my outfit choices for tonight.

Outfit de la Jour

  • Pink tulle tutu: You can't go wrong with a classic! I’m keeping it soft and romantic this time, pairing it with...
  • White blouse: Something elegant and simple, to balance out the drama of the tutu.
  • Sparkly bolero jacket: To add a bit of flair! (Naturally, I’ve gone for silver sequins. Nothing can beat sparkle.)
  • Pink ballet flats: I’m a fan of a touch of classic style! They give me a bit of height without taking away from the whimsicalness of the look.

I’ll be sure to post photos of my evening adventures on my Instagram, so be sure to check out the Pink Tutu Blog’s stories!

I can't wait to see what New York City has in store for me this week! Thanks for reading, and remember, don't forget to live your best life in pink!

With lots of twirls and even more pink love,

Emma 🩰 💕
