Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 2003-10-27: New York City, I'm In Love!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog NYC, post number 438! It's Monday, which means it's time to dive back into my little corner of the internet, and this week, I'm buzzing with excitement! This weekend, I was finally able to live out my absolute dream: dancing in the heart of New York City!

Now, let's rewind a bit. You know me, always chasing my dreams, and for months, this little dream has been brewing in my head: what would it be like to perform ballet in the concrete jungle? It sounded utterly fantastic, right?!

Well, I've been saving up for this adventure – a little something from every performance, a few pennies here and there. This city is known for being notoriously expensive, and for good reason. I knew I had to be smart with my budget, but I also didn't want to compromise on the fabulousness that is New York!

Speaking of fabulousness... I had to pack my tutu! Obviously! I packed my trusty pink one (with the little sequined stars – remember? You all adored it!), a pair of trusty white ballet shoes, and my favourite cherry red cardigan just in case. Honestly, I feel most comfortable in a tutu. It’s like my own personal power suit. And yes, I was sporting it everywhere in New York – no shame in my game, my loves!

After a rather bumpy plane journey (thank goodness for complimentary pink champagne – it’s all about staying positive, darlings!), I arrived at my cute little hotel in the West Village. It wasn't a fancy hotel, mind you, but it was perfectly charming with its floral wallpaper and quaint balcony. I even managed to snag a room with a bathtub – the ultimate indulgence!

Now, on to the big day – Saturday, 25th of October. After a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs (with a side of fresh, perfectly ripe pink grapefruit, of course!), I made my way to Lincoln Center. This is the home of the famous New York City Ballet, which is just as exciting as it sounds, you can believe! I always feel a thrill when I’m around this world-class ballet institution – it’s almost like being back at school, only so much grander! The moment you step onto the hallowed grounds of Lincoln Center, you’re transported into a whole other world, a world of artistry and elegance, just as I love it.

But remember my goal for this weekend? To dance in the streets of New York, right?! I took my inspiration from those amazing flash mobs – you know the ones I mean? They take over a public space, dancing, twirling, and putting on a little show. That was my vision for the day, except my choreography wouldn’t involve any choreographed numbers – it was just going to be a pure joy of dancing in my pink tutu.

So, after spending the morning soaking in the atmosphere of the Lincoln Center, I headed to a local park near the hotel. The moment I pulled my pink tutu out of my travel bag, it was game on! I had a small gathering of people, taking pictures, laughing at my sheer delight as I pirouetted. I had this whole city as my stage, and even if it was just for a few minutes, I knew I would treasure this memory forever.

But my adventures didn’t stop there. After my little ballet show in the park, I treated myself to a much-needed treat. New York City is a hotbed of yummy pastries and delectable cakes, and you can bet I sampled some of them. This little café near the park had these delightful chocolate eclairs filled with strawberry cream, it was so divine! It was just what I needed after a long morning of dancing!

The rest of my weekend was filled with incredible experiences! I watched a fantastic Broadway show, "Chicago", which left me absolutely enthralled. I even took a subway ride to see the iconic Times Square. Let me tell you, darlings, it’s just as bright and dazzling as the photos, if not more so! You have to see it to believe it! And of course, I wouldn’t miss out on some New York-style shopping. I bought a gorgeous pair of ballet flats from a quirky vintage shop, a couple of stunningly beautiful, sparkly necklaces to match my tutu, and let's not forget, I had to treat myself to a fabulously pink hat!

Now, after all that fun and frolicking, I’m back in the quiet of my hotel room, sipping my evening tea ( Earl Grey, the pinkiest kind!), reflecting on the amazing time I’ve had in the Big Apple.

There are a couple of things I absolutely loved about New York City. First of all, the sheer energy of the city is captivating! I was mesmerised by the non-stop buzz, the people, the sights – it’s all so vibrant and full of life!

Second, and just as important, the fashion in New York is incredible! It's such a melting pot of styles and trends, with everyone sporting their own unique sense of individuality. It was a feast for the eyes! I felt a little out of place with my tutu at first, I’m sure – it’s not your typical New York street fashion, But my fellow New Yorkers welcomed my unique fashion sense.

And there was this third, surprising observation - I couldn’t believe how many people I saw in pink, darling! My trusty pink tutu was blending in perfectly with the stylish pink trends. Honestly, it felt like my little pink tutu had become a part of the cityscape, almost like a part of its charm.

That’s what I love about the world – the way that even our little quirks can find a space to shine! In my heart, I believe every girl needs to own a pink tutu, no matter where they’re from. So, I’m doing my little bit, by spreading my message – embrace your love for pink and for all things whimsical! And remember, a tutu is not just a piece of clothing; it’s a state of mind! It’s about freedom, creativity, joy, and, above all, a healthy dose of self-love!

I hope this week’s post has inspired you to embrace the world, with all its beautiful, unexpected, and simply delightful adventures! Remember, a little pink tutu goes a long way – it’s the little things that make the world such a colourful, fabulous, and unforgettable place!

Till next Monday, darlings! Keep on twirling, stay chic, and embrace your inner ballerina!
