Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #446 – Dancing Through the Big Apple!

Monday, December 22nd, 2003

Oh, hello darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the heart of New York City!

You'll never believe what happened today, the excitement was simply bursting from the seams of my darling pink tutu. And to think, just a couple of weeks ago, I was dreaming of cobbled streets and cosy pubs in my home county of Derbyshire. Now I'm swept away in the whirlwind of the Big Apple, my little pink tutu twirling around the bustling city!

You see, the lovely people of the Metropolitan Opera have been very kind, offering me a little gig. You might call it a 'Christmas Miracle' as they decided to add a little 'Pink Tutu' sprinkle to their spectacular 'Nutcracker' performance. They invited me to 'dance' during the intermission with some of their little ballerinas and oh, my darling, what an absolutely delightful experience it was. Imagine - a whole stage to myself, surrounded by a sea of beautiful faces - a perfect combination of twinkling lights and enthusiastic applause!

And of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a visit to the Met itself. Those glorious costumes, those breathtaking sets! They transported me right to the snowy kingdom of Sugar Plum fairies and grumpy mice! After the show, we had a lovely meal at the lovely ‘Bar Boulud’, a beautifully quaint French bistro right around the corner. The whole day felt magical - it really was the perfect blend of 'Nutcracker' wonder and Parisian elegance.

The evening wasn't quite finished, however. My friends took me to this divine Broadway show, ‘Movin’ Out’. You know, a show with all Twyla Tharp’s lovely dances and fantastic music from Billy Joel! The costumes were just incredible and reminded me of all the gorgeous frocks that I had fallen in love with on my shopping trips around the city. Honestly, it's a total fashion paradise! It was no surprise that the first shop I hit after stepping off the subway at Times Square was none other than the gorgeous Bergdorf Goodman. Their Christmas displays were absolutely divine – glittering and fantastical.

You wouldn’t believe the divine shoes and frocks I spied. Oh, the possibilities! The sales assistants were such darlings, and although I didn’t come away with a giant bag of shopping (although the temptation was oh so real!), the dream of one day owning the latest designs was certainly enough to inspire me for my own performances.

However, the best part of my shopping spree came when I discovered the sweetest little boutique on 72nd Street called 'Sweet Threads'. The shop was filled with all things pretty and delightful. They even had the most beautiful range of pastel pink tutus and ballet shoes. Honestly, the girl working there had such impeccable taste! And to top it all off, she even offered to stitch a small pink sparkly embellishment onto my existing tutu - a special little reminder of this wonderful New York adventure!

And speaking of the metro! It was definitely the highlight of my day. As I settled into the carriage, I couldn't resist taking a cheeky snap. Honestly, I believe my beautiful pink tutu helped transform this humble commuter train into a sparkling magical carousel of 'Nutcracker' delight. I had the most gorgeous elderly gentleman next to me - he was reading his newspaper while delicately tapping his foot along to the rhythm of a jazzy track on his iPod. We were definitely on the same frequency.

The lovely conductor saw me in my pink tutu and even went so far as to ask, “Miss, is that tutu part of a costume?" with the widest smile you've ever seen! I just smiled back and said, “Just a little touch of magic, sir!”. And truly, it felt like magic. The energy of New York is so inspiring! I truly believe it's time for the entire city to embrace their inner pink tutu!

Tomorrow I'm off to see 'The Lion King' - a magnificent spectacle that I know I simply have to see! And naturally, I've been busy preparing my perfect 'Pink Tutu Look'.

So what shall I wear?

Firstly, my trusty pink tutu of course!

And then there's my gorgeous pink lace blouse - a whimsical touch with those tiny pink buttons. I picked it up for a steal at one of those vintage stalls down by the Greenwich Village Market, such a lucky find. I must confess, that particular street felt like stepping into another world. It was like walking down the pages of my favourite Austen novels - quaint shops, cosy cafes, and the delicious aroma of coffee filling the crisp winter air!

I plan on wearing my divine pink knitted tights too, the perfect combination of warmth and elegance, you see. Of course, no outfit would be complete without a sprinkling of some special jewellery – a silver locket that my Nana gave me, along with my favourite pink sparkly clip for my hair, because nothing beats that perfect 'pink-tastic' finishing touch!

You see, this little trip to New York has re-ignited that fiery creative spirit that lives within us all, reminding us that we should never take ourselves too seriously, but instead embrace a world of sparkle and imagination - where pink tutus can transform ordinary train journeys into a breathtaking 'Nutcracker' ride!

So stay tuned for more exciting updates and ‘Pink Tutu Blog NYC’ posts! It’s time for me to step out, with a sprinkle of New York magic and my darling pink tutu twirling with every step!

Much love and pink-tastic kisses,

Emma
