Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 10th May 2004: New York, New York!
Post Number 466: Oh My Stars!
Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog! It's Monday morning here in New York City and the sun is shining, the birds are singing (well, as much as a New York bird can sing, it's all "honk honk" around here!), and I'm just about ready to kick off the week with a bang!
Now, let's get right to the juicy bits, shall we? Last week, I packed my bags and jetted off to the Big Apple! Yep, this Derbyshire girl has swapped her quaint little village for the concrete jungle. (I just had to giggle writing that. Can you imagine my little granny hearing me call my home village 'quaint'? I suspect I'd get a hefty clip round the ear and a cup of chamomile tea served up with a stern lecture on the virtues of "good strong language". 😉).
Anyway, I digress... where was I? Ah, yes, New York! This city never fails to take my breath away. Every corner holds a new adventure, every street boasts a new piece of fashion inspiration. And, my darlings, the energy here is simply electrifying!
My Pink Tutu Adventure Begins...
My first stop? You guessed it: The Metropolitan Museum of Art! Let's just say that it lived up to the hype. The sheer amount of history and art housed within those walls is staggering! Of course, I made sure to visit their costume institute, which, as you all know, holds a very special place in my heart. From the exquisite 18th-century gowns to the fabulous feathered headdresses, I was absolutely smitten! I could spend days (nay, weeks!) browsing their collection.
Now, you may be wondering why I ventured into the museum's hallowed halls with my trusty pink tutu gracing my petite form. Well, my dears, the museum holds a "no food or drink" policy. And, quite frankly, that would be a criminal offense for someone like me! How could I go all day without a quick "tea and scone break"?! You can bet your bottom dollar that I took a little "Pink Tutu Pitstop" to the lovely café across the street to refuel, naturally! The coffee was perfectly brewed, the scones were fluffy and delicious (I always make sure to order mine with a generous dollop of clotted cream, naturally), and the whole affair had me feeling like a true New York fashionista.
Pink Tutu's Broadway Dreams
Now, what's a trip to New York without a touch of Broadway magic? This week, I saw a phenomenal production of The Phantom of the Opera! The music, the sets, the costumes - it was all so stunning! And of course, I made sure to make my way into the souvenir shop and purchase a very special Phantom mask. (Did I tell you? It's black velvet with sparkly little jewels on the side!).
While we're on the subject of fashion, I had a marvelous time scouring Manhattan's chic boutiques and vintage stores in search of that perfect pink piece to complete my ensemble! The variety was staggering, but my most thrilling find was an exquisite pink vintage hat! It's made of velvet, with feathers and sequins, and has just the right amount of sparkle to match my personality!
I truly believe that every girl needs a pink hat, it's a versatile and playful accessory, and this one is sure to make my next ballet performance extra special! (Oh, and you just wait until you see my new, perfectly pink, satin ballet slippers, which, as it happens, have little pearl-like beads woven into the ribbons! If you are going to wear pink you've got to embrace it fully!).
Life on the New York Metro
Being the fearless explorer that I am, I simply had to ride the subway - otherwise known as the metro - you see? So much fun! It truly is a sight to behold: packed full of people going about their busy day, all heading for different destinations. The atmosphere is buzzing and full of life, and it’s hard not to feel caught up in the whirlwind! And just think of it - an endless supply of fabulous people-watching opportunities.
I spent several mornings wandering through Central Park and observing the park's vibrant energy. It is truly a tranquil oasis in the midst of this chaotic metropolis, and one of my favorite places to simply soak in the city's spirit. Of course, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Blog post without some stylish encounters!
Pink Tutu Fashionista Encounters
I saw some real style icons roaming around the park: a beautiful ballerina in a flowing lavender tutu, an elegant gentleman in a double-breasted pinstripe suit (yes, a suit!), a funky grandma in a pink velvet bomber jacket and a mischievous chihuahua sporting a pink tutu (and trust me, you haven’t lived until you've seen a tiny chihuahua dressed in pink!). I must admit I found it incredibly charming, and just the perfect inspiration for this week's blog post!
Speaking of pink, I just had to visit the Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt shop in Soho! The flavors are incredible (mango tango? Yes please!). And if you can’t beat 'em, join 'em, right? I bought a beautiful pink satin handbag, and what better way to show off this lovely new addition to my wardrobe than with a scoop of delicious mango-tango frozen yogurt. I mean, who doesn’t love frozen yogurt? It's simply delicious and the perfect treat for a summer afternoon in the Big Apple!
I am off now to grab some pink lemonade, my favorite. There are some fun things I need to organize for next week, like catching another show at Lincoln Center, perhaps exploring the amazing selection at one of the iconic flea markets, or maybe taking a few dance classes in a funky dance studio in SoHo!
And who knows, maybe I'll even bump into that gorgeous ballet dancer who wore that stunning lilac tutu in Central Park last week - she seemed awfully friendly.
Anyway, until next week, remember: it’s all about embracing the colour pink, and the magic that a simple tutu can bring!
