Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #470

Monday 7th June, 2004

Ooh, New York, New York!

Hello, darlings! This week has been a whirl of pink and twirls, just like my favourite tutu, as I've been dancing my way through the Big Apple! It's been a dream come true, truly, and I can't wait to share all the glittery, fabulous details with you.

From Derbyshire to the Big City

Now, I've been dreaming about New York since I was a little girl, twirling around in my grandma's vintage petticoats, imagining myself a Broadway star. That love for the city has stayed with me all these years, and my dreams are finally becoming reality! It feels utterly surreal to be here, surrounded by all this excitement. And of course, the perfect outfit was an absolute must. A bright, vibrant pink tutu – my favourite one, a custom-made masterpiece of tulle and frills – complete with a matching pink beret, pink ballet shoes, and a little touch of pink lipstick. The perfect ensemble to dance into this extraordinary city, don’t you think?

Making it Happen

As you know, funding my travel is no small feat – though I assure you, it’s all worth it for the joy of experiencing these magnificent places. I work incredibly hard, juggling ballet performances and classes to earn enough for my little pink tutu adventures. But it's a joy, every single step of the way, especially when it leads me to a place like New York.

Exploring with a Pink Tutu

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without exploring the vibrant, captivating art scene! I made sure to get my fix of Broadway. Last night, I saw “The Phantom of the Opera”, and oh my goodness, it was stunning! The music, the sets, the costumes... everything was so grand and atmospheric. I especially loved the way they used the shadows to create a sense of mystery and intrigue. And don’t even get me started on the amazing chandelier drop – the suspense had me on the edge of my seat. I’m planning to see more shows during my time here – a little birdie told me “The Lion King” is truly a magical experience!

Shopping Spree

Now, a girl like me simply can’t resist the call of New York’s shops, and trust me, I have indulged! It's pure magic wandering through the beautiful stores in Manhattan, with racks of gorgeous outfits just begging to be bought and twirled in. My trip wouldn’t be complete without at least one new pink tutu, so I spent an afternoon at a fabulous shop in Greenwich Village, and let’s just say my bag is now the proud owner of the most exquisite, fluffy, and ridiculously charming new addition to my tutu collection.

Metro Mania

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without hopping on the subway! I have to confess, this is one thing I didn't think I would enjoy – but after seeing it on all those films, it feels like part of the experience! The excitement of riding a real underground train is electrifying. It’s like stepping into another world, surrounded by people from all walks of life, with the gentle rhythmic rumble of the train.

A Touch of the Classics

To say I'm inspired by the New York City Ballet would be an understatement. There’s something truly enchanting about the precision, artistry, and elegance of ballet. Seeing them dance is truly a spectacle – it's no wonder they've become a global symbol of excellence and beauty. So, naturally, I spent the afternoon at the David H. Koch Theater, soaking in the magic of the city’s renowned ballet company. And, it was definitely the highlight of my week.

* Spreading the Tutu Love*

The best part? People have been so wonderfully open to seeing me dance my way through the city, even when my pink tutu was getting more than a few stares. My little dream of inspiring others to wear tutus seems to be catching on. This is, after all, a city full of eccentric fashion, and I felt embraced by the joy of self-expression here. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of inspiring even a single person to dance outside their comfort zone, even if it’s just a little twirl here and there.

Dancing with New Yorkers

Speaking of dancing, I found this delightful dance studio in the East Village where I got to participate in a ballet class with locals. It was so much fun to connect with fellow dance enthusiasts, even though we spoke in a language made mostly of twirls and hand gestures – but that’s what I love most about ballet. The art transcends the need for words! I’ll definitely be back at that studio next week, maybe I can inspire them all to dance with tutus next time!

A World of Possibilities

You know, the city is overflowing with endless possibilities, with every corner revealing a new story waiting to unfold. There are places like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, and the iconic Central Park, which I plan to explore next week, with, of course, my favourite pink tutu in tow! I truly can't wait to see what adventures await, and to keep sharing my little pink tutu adventures with you.

Until next week, stay fabulous, and keep twirling!
