Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post 495: November 29th 2004: A Twirling Tale in the Big Apple!

Hello my darlings! 🩰💖 It's Emma here, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink Tutu Blog! I'm buzzing with excitement, as this week finds me back in the heart of New York City, the dazzling city that never sleeps. This week I've had the most glorious time, soaking in all the magic and charm this iconic metropolis has to offer. This city has a special place in my heart, as it's the city where I truly began to embrace the pink tutu lifestyle - the dream that ignited my passion for travel and sparked the very idea of this blog!

For this trip, I've been relying on the city's amazing underground network – the NYC subway! It's a little less grand than London's tube, mind you, but with its screeching trains and bustling crowds, it really does give you a real taste of urban New York! And it definitely beats the traffic in a big city like this!

Thursday 25th - Arriving at LaGuardia, the iconic skyline lit up with the glow of the evening, always puts me in a whimsical mood! It’s always the same – a bit of a thrill! There’s nothing like it in the world, is there?

Friday 26th - What’s a trip to New York without some top-notch shopping? And where better to find the perfect pink tutu than on 5th Avenue? After a good wander round, I found myself in the magical space of Bloomingdale’s. With my brand new, custom-made tulle creation tucked safely in my handbag (it is gorgeous by the way! Think sparkling sequins and fluffy layers - the perfect outfit for a performance) I was ready for a little cultural immersion. I hit the town at the Lincoln Center for a thrilling performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the New York City Ballet. I’m such a sucker for the classical stuff. Oh, it was simply divine! 🦢

Saturday 27th – Saturday meant a morning spent browsing through the stalls in the Greenwich Village Farmers’ Market. This is one of my favorite spots to get unique gifts and a touch of local charm, from freshly picked apples and home-baked cakes to artisanal crafts, it has something for everyone! Feeling invigorated after my market foray, I ventured to Central Park for a little stroll amidst nature, and let’s just say the autumn colours made it simply breathtaking. But my favourite part? The squirrels! I love those little cheeky creatures – I've always been fond of animals. Of course, a spot of shopping was inevitable. A little designer browsing on Madison Avenue? Well, yes, a girl can never have too many fabulous clothes, can she? But let’s be real, the best treat is an afternoon tea at the Plaza Hotel, complete with scones, cream and jam, and my signature Pink Tutu, which always seems to draw attention.

Sunday 28th – Ah, Sunday was all about taking a step back from the hectic schedule and enjoying a moment of calm. The perfect start to a relaxing Sunday morning is a cup of hot tea in a cosy café, And when it’s raining, there’s nothing quite as cosy. But the rain cleared and the sunshine peeked out for a wonderful walk around Times Square, where all those iconic neon signs light up the night in such an enchanting way. I managed to squeeze in a delightful jazz session in a bar nestled down a hidden alley in Greenwich Village. These bars often play host to talented musicians and a truly authentic New York feel. And for an ending befitting a night in the city that never sleeps, it was off to a vibrant Broadway show. This time it was a classic - The Phantom of the Opera! Such a beautiful performance, and with that epic soundtrack, you could tell how the audience was entranced.

Monday 29th – Well, here I am, writing to you on this dreary November Monday morning, sitting in my little café on Broadway with the city sights twinkling through the windows, reminiscing over a cup of tea (my usual way to kickstart a Monday). It is with a light heart and a smile that I start this week. I’ve just booked my tickets to a Moulin Rouge! The Musical show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre! The music is fabulous, it's very much a celebration of colour and extravagance, a truly decadent and unique experience, and a show I highly recommend for anyone coming to the Big Apple. And don't even get me started on the costumes, oh my! They’re the kind that leave you breathless, a real Parisian dream.

Outfit Inspo – Oh my dear, where do I begin with this week's outfit? For the Broadway shows, it was the iridescent tulle tutu, with delicate feather embellishments. The sparkling bodice and layers of tulle really made the costume stand out from the crowd! It’s definitely an evening-wear, elegant ensemble for a girl on the town, especially with those elegant black velvet heels. 👠

What I'm Reading – My current reading material is none other than 'New York City' by James Cagney. I am so in awe of the life story of this amazing Hollywood star! This man lived an extraordinary life. He was a famous boxer and dancer, as well as being one of the greatest actors of all time. A captivating story told by the star himself, you truly feel immersed in the glamorous life and struggles of a Hollywood legend, who truly epitomizes the American Dream.

Food – The Big Apple truly is a melting pot for cuisine! So, what did this week hold for my tastebuds? There's been an abundance of New York pizza – of course! – but my standout favourite? That would have to be the juicy cheeseburger I devoured in that legendary joint on Broadway - 'Shake Shack'. This burger, well, let’s just say, it's one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. And did you know the hot dogs here are also known for their deliciousness? And after a few late-night shows, the energy of the city made me crave something sweet. And no, this wasn't an NYC-only event. My sweet craving led me to one of my favourite bakery delights, a fluffy cinnamon roll, the size of my head!

What's next? Well, darlings, my love for NYC never seems to wane, so this won’t be my last visit! You can definitely expect a few more posts on this beautiful city! I've already been looking into the different shows that are coming to the city, it really does seem to have something for everyone. As always, I’ll keep you updated on my travels, the beautiful tutus I've discovered, and everything that is fabulous in the world of fashion!

Until next Monday,

Twirl on! 🩰✨
