Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 9th May 2005 - Post #518: A Tutu-ful Day in the City that Never Sleeps!

Hello lovelies!

It's Monday again, and I'm back in my little corner of the internet with another slice of my fabulous life in the Big Apple! This week, it's all about pink, tutus, and a whole lot of NYC magic.

I'm so glad I brought my most vibrant pink tutu with me on this trip. It just adds that extra sparkle to everything! My Derbyshire roots might be in a charming little village, but this city truly feels like my stage. From the bustling streets to the dazzling lights of Broadway, everything about New York is electrifying!

Before we get into the excitement of this week's adventures, let's have a little catch up, shall we? How's your week been? Did you get to twirl in your favourite tutu? I'm always thrilled to hear from my readers! Drop a comment and let me know what you've been up to.

A Day of Culture, Glamour, and Ballet Bliss

I woke up this morning feeling like a little ballerina princess. The sunshine streaming through the window seemed to be whispering, "Emma, it's a day for exploring!". After a quick cuppa and a slice of toast with strawberry jam (a bit of home comfort in the city!), I grabbed my trusty little pink satchel and hopped onto the subway.

My first stop was a visit to the New York City Ballet for a matinee performance. It was a delight! I could feel the excitement buzzing in the air, even before the curtain went up. I loved the atmosphere of anticipation - everyone was excited to be there, united by their passion for dance. Today, it was Balanchine's "Concerto Barocco" and Jerome Robbins' "Dances at a Gathering", which are both truly stunning pieces. The dancers were breathtaking, graceful, and strong – they moved with such incredible power and control!

You can always tell I've been to a show because of the little glint in my eye – the magic of ballet is so intoxicating! The colours of the costumes, the intricate steps, the powerful emotions - it’s art that speaks without a single word. I have a confession - there were a few moments where I found myself doing little twirls and pirouettes in my seat! I couldn't help myself – the energy was simply contagious.

A Dash of Pink Throughout the Day

Later, my journey continued to Saks Fifth Avenue. You can never have enough pink in your life, can you? My little heart skipped a beat when I saw a glorious display of hot pink tulle in the fabric department. I had to have it! I could just imagine myself creating the most breathtaking tutu from it. Who needs diamonds when you've got a good yard of pink tulle, right?!

Next up, I found myself in the vintage clothing district. Oh, the endless treasure trove of beautiful pieces! I picked up a vintage beaded bag in the most divine shade of blush pink – it's so elegant and timeless. The shop assistant told me it belonged to a former Broadway actress, which made it feel all the more special.

Later that afternoon, I took a stroll through Central Park. It's one of my favourite places in the entire world! It's the perfect spot to find a little peace amidst the city buzz. There's something magical about sitting on a park bench watching the city come alive around you. Today, the weather was so bright and sunny - I decided to practice my pirouettes. Maybe one day, I'll be twirling on a stage here!

A Touch of Glamour: Dinner and Drinks with a Broadway Twist

Tonight, I'm going to be taking a break from ballet, but my passion for the performing arts isn't going anywhere! I'm treating myself to a lovely dinner and a show on Broadway – because sometimes, you just need a bit of extra sparkle in your life.

And who else would be my dining companion, you might ask, than a real-life Broadway legend – none other than the fabulous Ms. Mary Lou Miller, the prima ballerina who stole my heart in the recent production of Swan Lake! She's so warm and welcoming. The excitement hasn’t worn off! Tonight, I'm dressing up to the nines! I'm hoping to see the Tony Award-winning play Avenue Q. I've heard it’s hilarious, and it might just be the perfect dose of humour after a day full of dance and dreams.

My Life as a Tutu-Wearing Ballerina

My life here in New York is truly a dream. Every day brings new experiences and discoveries. It's a whirlwind of excitement and I love it! But even though I’m swept up in all the glamorous moments, I never forget the little things - those simple moments that make my heart happy.

I may be wearing a pink tutu most of the time, but I’m always just a little girl from Derbyshire at heart. You know, those of you who have followed my journey will remember how it all began - with a passion for dance and a whole lot of dreams.

The biggest joy is meeting fellow ballet enthusiasts! I just love seeing their smiles as I dance through the city in my bright pink tutu. Maybe, just maybe, I'm inspiring them to take a leap of faith and wear their own. My dream is to see the world awash in pink tulle! Imagine how much joy it would bring!

Remember, lovelies, you don’t need a stage or a grand audience to express your passion. Every day is an opportunity to dance! Embrace the magic in every moment.

And always remember: pink is never wrong!

Until next week, keep twirling and smiling.

Emma xoxo
