Pink Tutu Blog NYC #536: Dancing Through the City That Never Sleeps

Hello my gorgeous readers,

It's Monday morning in the city that never sleeps and I'm ready to fill you in on all the fabulous adventures I've been having here in New York City!

This week, the 12th of September, 2005, has been bursting with glamour and twirling - just the way I like it!

I'm wearing my brand-new hot pink tutu with sparkling sequins - perfect for dancing my way through the Big Apple. Did I tell you about my amazing new sparkly pink ballet flats? They practically shimmer with every step! And they go perfectly with this delightful little vintage coat I found in a boutique off Broadway. Speaking of Broadway...

Broadway Buzz and a Ballerina's Dream

I finally saw the incredible "Wicked"! I've been yearning to see it since I arrived in New York, and it did not disappoint. The costumes were magnificent, the music was breathtaking, and the choreography? Simply magical. It’s a musical about good vs. evil, with twists and turns galore. Honestly, it left me feeling utterly spellbound. If you're planning a trip to New York, “Wicked" is a must-see - even if, like me, you have to travel from the far end of Brooklyn to make it happen.

And speaking of travelling...

Adventures in the Subway

This week, I discovered a new love – the New York subway. Okay, I know what you're thinking - subways are generally thought of as noisy, grimy and crowded, but not here! I found the whole experience absolutely fascinating.

My top tip for navigating the underground? Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with the people sitting next to you. Just last Tuesday, I sat down next to an old lady and asked her for her favourite subway station - it turned out to be Grand Central Terminal. Turns out, she has worked as a fashion designer in Manhattan for decades. We even talked about ballet - it turns out she used to be a dancer in her youth! She gave me some great fashion advice – wear statement shoes! It was quite a heartwarming and lovely moment, even amongst the rush hour crowds. And she even offered me an apple!

Shopping Spree and Fashion Delights

New York is truly a shopping haven, isn't it? I must confess, I might have overdone it just a little at Saks Fifth Avenue… just a tiny bit… I discovered these beautiful shoes that remind me of a dancer's shoes but in a classy, grown-up style. And they come in pink, of course! Honestly, if it were socially acceptable, I’d be wearing pink 24/7! You have to take a little break every now and then for retail therapy. Even if you end up, let’s just say, spending slightly more than you'd intended. Oops.

I did a lot of browsing and ended up finding a lovely vintage dress in a gorgeous pastel pink with some gorgeous embroidered details. Of course, I couldn't resist.

My shopping spree ended with the perfect accessory – a chic, pink beret. Now, when I’m waltzing down Fifth Avenue, it adds a little je ne sais quoi to the outfit and makes me feel utterly glamorous. I’m pretty sure I just discovered a new obsession with beret’s! Can you blame me?

Dance, Dance, Dance

This week's dance schedule has been hectic but delightful! I even had the opportunity to see some incredible street dancers at Washington Square Park. Honestly, some of them were simply awe-inspiring! It reminded me of a scene straight out of a film with their incredible moves. There was one particular dancer who moved with such fluidity, I swear he was levitating! It was like watching a story unfold through movement and grace - breathtaking.

You’d think with all the ballet classes and performance that I’d get a little tired of twirling, but not so much! I feel invigorated and empowered by the art form and feel like the world is my dance floor - so, watch out New York!

Inspiration from a Mastermind

I had a truly inspiring evening at the New York City Ballet. They performed “Swan Lake” – a timeless masterpiece. There is a special magic that happens when ballet comes to life on stage – the emotion, the passion, the artistry. The dancers truly took my breath away, each movement telling a captivating story with graceful elegance and such athleticism!

Afterwards, I bumped into the lovely Melissa, one of my fellow ballet enthusiasts here in the city. She gave me a tip about an event - an exclusive talk with the incredible Balanchine. He's a legendary figure in ballet history, so I knew I couldn't miss it! I've been so excited about meeting this phenomenal artist and hearing him speak about ballet.

Now, it's my turn to offer you a piece of advice – even if you’re not in New York, find the art and dance within your local community and immerse yourself in something that moves you. Whether it’s ballet or tap, salsa or even belly-dancing - do it!

Pink Tutu Mission: One City at a Time!

My mission, as you know, is to get everyone dancing and embracing the magic of ballet, one pink tutu at a time! I know my pink tutu stands out from the crowd but I believe it’s not just about the tutu, it’s about celebrating individuality, fun and expressing your true self! I see a world where everyone feels confident, happy, and embraces their own unique beauty. So, who's ready to join me in spreading a little pink tutu magic?

Let me know what your favourite pink outfits are, and what adventures you have in store this week!

I can't wait to share more fun adventures with you all!

Until next time,

Emma
