Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #554 - A Dance in the Big Apple 🍎

Hello darlings! 🩰 It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, reporting live from the heart of New York City! As you know, my Monday posts are all about this magnificent metropolis, a place that never fails to inspire my inner fashionista and ballerino. This week, however, there’s an extra dash of sparkle in my step, because I was the one dancing in New York!

I've always dreamed of pirouette-ing my way through the city that never sleeps, and this past weekend that dream became reality. So buckle up, dear readers, as I take you on a whirl-wind tour of my New York dance adventure.

From Derbyshire to the Big Apple: A Dream Takes Flight

It’s been a long journey from the rolling green hills of Derbyshire to the bustling streets of Manhattan, a journey I managed to finance with my ballet performances, of course! As always, my pink tutu played a vital role, transporting me seamlessly from quaint country stages to the grand grandeur of New York City.

Getting Here
I arrived on Friday afternoon, after a long but enjoyable flight. First thing on my list? A quick stop at my favourite shop - Bloomingdale’s! You wouldn’t believe the glorious array of ballet-inspired fashion – pink tulle dresses, sequined leotards, and ballet flats galore! My shopping bags, adorned with the iconic Bloomingdale’s logo, were quickly bursting with fabulous finds, much to the delight of the lady at the luggage claim, who looked positively delighted to see such a vibrant, twirling addition to the typical travel monotony.

Exploring Manhattan: After a brief but much needed snooze at the chic little boutique hotel in Soho, I set off to explore the city. What better way to experience the spirit of New York than hopping aboard the metro, a vibrant tapestry of human life and endless possibilities! I quickly became enthralled with the energy and speed of it all, darting from one fabulous destination to the next – each corner a potential story to be unfolded. I did, of course, sport my pink tutu throughout, which unsurprisingly became a point of conversation among the fellow subway travellers. Many even snapped pictures, thrilled by this touch of colour and whimsy in their everyday commute. My goal to get the entire world in pink tutus? Well, I’m certainly making progress, one subway ride at a time!

A Saturday Evening to Remember: Ballet, Broadway, and Glittering Glamour

The highlight of my trip was, of course, seeing New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center! The exquisite costumes, the effortless grace of the dancers, the stunning artistry… It left me utterly speechless! The air crackled with magic, every note a melody of delight. It was as if the dancers were truly waltzing with the angels.

Afterwards, I met my dear friend Chloe for dinner in Times Square. Chloe is a fellow ballerina with a heart full of dreams. She’s living the New York dream, and after a delectable dinner at a trendy new bistro, we spent a good part of the evening swapping stories and dancing around the brightly lit square, much to the amusement of passing tourists and cab drivers. Chloe's apartment overlooking the glittering cityscape was the perfect ending to a magical evening.

Sunday: The Buzz of Ballet Street

The last day in New York was all about the energy of Ballet Street. I started my morning with a ballet class at a legendary dance studio - The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. My class was filled with a diverse range of dancers, all bursting with passion. Their stories and experiences left me incredibly inspired. After class, I ventured down Broadway and soaked in the incredible vibrancy.

Shopping in Style:

What is a trip to New York without a bit of retail therapy, especially for a ballerina like me! My favourite street for a fashion fix has to be Bleecker Street, and that's where I headed for a little spree. I snagged the most gorgeous pair of shoes (pink, of course!), and found the perfect tutu-style skirt to complete my next performance ensemble. My purse was practically empty but my spirit was full – now that’s the true magic of shopping in New York City!

Monday: Leaving a Little Pink Magic Behind

I left New York City with a heart full of happy memories, each step echoing with the spirit of this incredible city. The vibrant dance performances, the fashion escapades, and the infectious energy of this bustling metropolis left an imprint on my soul.

As my flight soared over the city's glittering skyline, I couldn't help but smile, already dreaming of my next visit to the Big Apple. I am determined to make New York City my regular dance haven – this won’t be my last adventure here, not by a long shot! After all, the stage is set, and this pink tutu ballerina is ready for her close-up.

I’d love to hear all about your favourite spots in New York City! Share them with me in the comments below, and let’s continue to dance with our hearts set on all things beautiful, sparkly, and pink.

See you next Monday for more New York City adventures!

Love, Emma x
