Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 31st July 2006 (Post #582)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and what a weekend it's been! As always, I'm writing to you straight from the heart of the Big Apple, where the city that never sleeps is buzzing with the energy of a thousand twinkling stars. I landed here in New York on Friday morning, straight from a lovely performance at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Don't get me wrong, Covent Garden is a dream, but New York has a certain je ne sais quoi - it's a constant whirlwind of vibrant colours, exhilarating music, and endless possibilities. It's also, of course, the perfect backdrop for my latest pink tutu creation - this time it's a glorious shade of bubblegum pink with shimmering silver sequins and a feather-light, billowing tulle skirt. You'll just have to wait until Wednesday's Instagram post to see it in all its glory!

Now, onto the delights of this weekend, the things that truly set my heart fluttering like a hummingbird in flight. Let me paint you a picture:

Friday: Ballet and Broadway

Landing in New York was a treat in itself. It was the height of summer, the sun was blazing, and the city was brimming with excitement. My first stop, naturally, was a ballet class at the iconic Steps on Broadway dance studio - the atmosphere was electric! All those passionate, graceful bodies moving in sync to the beautiful music, the shared love for the art of dance radiating through the studio. It was truly inspiring. Afterwards, I indulged in the ritual of post-class self-care, a lavish bubble bath infused with rose petals, followed by an equally decadent iced latte and a gooey slice of pecan pie - what could be more perfect?

As the evening descended upon the city, it was time for another magical experience: a Broadway show! We opted for "Chicago" - it was dazzling! The singing, the dancing, the costumes, everything was absolutely exquisite. And don't even get me started on the talented dancers, their grace and precision was absolutely breathtaking. The energy of the whole theatre was simply intoxicating, I could have sat there for hours mesmerised!

Saturday: Shopping, Style, and Streets

I am not, of course, going to pass up the opportunity to explore the sartorial wonders of New York. It's all about the unique boutiques, vintage stores, and iconic fashion labels for me, and oh my, does this city deliver! I fell head over heels in love with a gorgeous silk scarf adorned with delicate cherry blossom designs at a tiny vintage shop in Soho, and I couldn't resist adding a pair of stylish pink stilettos from a designer store on Fifth Avenue. (You know how I feel about shoes!)

Later that afternoon, we took a stroll through Central Park, where the lush greenery provided a welcome contrast to the concrete jungle that surrounds it. It was truly breathtaking, watching the ducks glide across the still waters, and the children playing merrily on the green lawns.

As evening arrived, we took a vibrant, neon-lit trip down the subway to Greenwich Village. The eclectic atmosphere and the vibrant street performers painted an unforgettable tableau, truly encapsulating the energy and vibrancy that make New York so unique. I found a darling little jazz bar tucked away on a cobbled street and treated myself to a classic New York cocktail, swaying to the soulful melodies of a local band. The entire evening felt like a scene from a romantic movie - a delightful surprise to cap off a fantastic day!

Sunday: The Great Outdoors and a Touch of Pink

It was another beautiful Sunday, perfect for exploring more of the city's hidden treasures. We took a relaxing stroll across Brooklyn Bridge, marveling at the breathtaking views of the city's glittering skyline and the imposing Lady Liberty statue in the distance. As the city's heartbeat reverberated around us, I couldn't help but be in awe of this incredible city and the vibrant souls that call it home.

Of course, what would a Sunday in New York be without a little bit of fashion fun? I found the most fabulous vintage tutu shop in the West Village, a veritable treasure trove of tulle and sequins! I couldn't resist a sparkly lilac tutu - it felt perfect for a weekend filled with so much enchantment. It's just the kind of unique piece that brings a touch of playful whimsy to my wardrobe.

And as the sun set on a gloriously filled weekend, I felt a deep sense of contentment. It was time to head back to my cosy little apartment in Midtown, and prepare for the new week ahead.

Monday: The Big Apple Bounces Back!

Here I am again, dear readers, with a renewed spring in my step! It's Monday morning, and the city is awakening to the vibrant rhythm of another week. I have already booked my ballet class for later this afternoon and my schedule for this week is chock-full of exciting opportunities - a private event with a well-known ballet company, some fun shoots with a fabulous local photographer, and an afternoon spent exploring the captivating collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

But before I plunge back into the exhilarating rush of New York, I wanted to share this thought: there's something truly magical about this city. Its pulse is a rhythmic, enchanting blend of creativity, energy, and sheer determination, always pulsating with a joyful zest for life. And, as always, it reminds me that even amidst the hustle and bustle, there is beauty and magic to be found, not just in the magnificent buildings and iconic landmarks, but also in the everyday interactions, the stories whispered in the cafes and hidden in the smiles we share on the streets.

So, let us embrace the beauty of life with a skip in our step, a smile on our faces, and a twinkle in our eyes. And don't forget - wear your pink tutus!

Yours in pink, Emma
