Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 28th August 2006 - Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple!
Hello my gorgeous darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, here, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be back in New York City! This week marks the grand opening of my very own little corner of the internet - www.pink-tutu.com - so what better way to celebrate than with a post straight from the heart of the Big Apple, right?!
This is my fifth trip to New York this year (that's more trips than some people make in a decade, but I tell you what, I just can't get enough!), and I’ve arrived in style. My new blush pink suitcase (with matching travel tutu, of course!) has become quite a sensation in the arrivals area. The customs officer even commented on the "remarkable shade of pink!" He said he’d never seen anything like it… except on Barbie. Honestly, darling, I think my suitcase deserves an award all on its own!
Anyway, let’s get into it!
A Day in PinkI started the day with a steaming mug of Earl Grey in my adorable pink floral-printed dressing gown, which has "Pink Tutu Blog NYC" embroidered in bright pink letters on the back, a personal touch just for my trips. It was only then that I remembered…I’d forgotten my new pink cashmere pashmina in Derbyshire! Oh, the horror! Don’t worry, darlings, it was quickly rectified, with a mad dash to Bloomingdales, of course! (After all, what else would a true pink-loving girl do? My current ballet performances have been paying off!). The blush pashmina (paired perfectly with my lilac vintage Chanel dress) and my sparkly pink ballet flats will become my absolute staple for all the New York exploring I’m planning to do this week.
Now, if you’re like me, and you absolutely adore ballet performances (and who doesn’t?!) then this post is for you. Today, I’m kicking off my trip with a delightful afternoon at the New York City Ballet. You can bet your bottom dollar, I’ve arrived wearing a stunning new pale pink tutu - just to truly embrace the theme of the day.
Now, let's chat about the performance... well, it was pure magic! "Giselle" is simply exquisite. This version of the ballet was as captivating as ever. From the ethereal beauty of the corps de ballet in their cloud-like white tutus to the graceful athleticism of the principal dancers, the entire experience left me spellbound. And the ending? Oh, I cried buckets, darlings! It's the most poignant ending to a ballet, don't you think? I left the theatre feeling completely overwhelmed with joy, touched by the exquisite story of love, betrayal, and forgiveness, and, of course, utterly inspired.
Fashion Spotlight: Tutu Mania!Speaking of tutus, let’s talk about something close to my heart: fashion. I have discovered a brilliant little shop, right here in New York, that's a real haven for the discerning pink-tutu-loving lady! It’s tucked away on a quiet little street and is crammed full of tutus of every shape and colour imaginable. There's soft tulle in dusty rose, vibrant fuschia, a stunning array of blush pink hues... Honestly, darlings, it's enough to make any girl's head spin! And I haven't even told you about the glittery accessories! I practically waltzed out of the store with a bagful of pink-tutu delights - you know me, can't resist a bargain, and tutus always deserve a treat!
This week is all about soaking up the energy of this vibrant city. Tonight, I'll be watching "A Chorus Line" at the Minskoff Theatre - such a classic show with beautiful dancing. The excitement is already building, and you bet I'll be documenting the entire thing with a new set of fabulous pictures for the blog! Don’t worry darlings, I’m not planning on becoming a stage-door groupie! You know me better than that. There's a little something about the grandeur of Broadway theatre that just does things for me, even when I’m watching from the back rows - no shame in this pink tutu loving blogger’s game, darling!
Adventures on the Subway: Tutu on the Go!So, to make this New York trip even more amazing, I'm taking the subway everywhere! I know what you're thinking: "But Emma, a tutu? The subway? Surely you'll get all flustered!" Well, let me tell you - I am embracing the adventure with the spirit of a seasoned New York City ballerine. My tutus are perfectly equipped to navigate the subway, and you know what? I love seeing people's smiles. I feel like I'm adding a bit of magic and whimsy into their commutes - and maybe even inspiring them to take the pink plunge!
But the truth is, darlings, I haven't let my pink-tutu dreams get too out of hand, at least, not in public. As far as the fashion is concerned, this is not the type of look that is generally accepted in the United States of America - it doesn’t work like that yet. The tutus usually get the side eye, so I’m mainly just going for the tutus when it comes to private time. It’s still exciting to dress in them for me. If the chance comes to perform in them at a show here, then all bets are off, my loves. We’re always just one little step closer to turning pink tutus into mainstream fashion, my lovelies, one tulle dream at a time!
I am truly feeling like I’m on the right track when it comes to the blog! This week I'm going to work on the new site for www.pink-tutu.com and even try to record my first video vlog, with some ideas for future blog post plans! Who knows? Perhaps I’ll find the courage to walk on the stage at some of the places I’ll be visiting!
For the remainder of the week, you can find me hopping from one ballet performance to another, scooping up cute little gifts at the local boutiques, and indulging in those famous New York bagels. But don't worry darlings, you’ll be hearing from me regularly on pink-tutu.com - I'll keep you all updated on every pink, tutu-licious step of the way!
Remember darlings, until next week… Keep on tutu-ing!
PinkTutuBlogNYCP.S. The big news - this week marks post number 586 on my Pink Tutu Blog, and that means that I'm just one step closer to convincing everyone in the world to wear a pink tutu! Now that's what I call a tutu-licious goal! Stay tuned for lots more fashion tips, ballet talk and city-life fun! Don’t forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com!
