Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #598: Dancing Dreams in the Big Apple!

Monday 20th November 2006

Hello darlings! I’m back in the Big Apple, my feet already aching with excitement! It’s been another whirlwind weekend, filled with so much pinkness and sparkle it's making my head spin, just like my pirouettes in the subway station this morning. Honestly, what a sight, a girl in pink tutu getting lost in her own ballet steps, right in the middle of a New York commute. Let’s just say the commuters were intrigued!

Now, I must tell you about the amazing show I saw last night. You’ve all heard of “The Lion King,” right? It's incredible! Just the costumes alone were worth the price of admission! I can't imagine all the time and effort it took to design them, they're like pieces of art. There's so much going on, it’s a visual feast. I’m pretty sure I gasped every five minutes, especially at the animals. Just glorious! The dancing was divine - graceful and powerful. And let’s talk about those music scores! Every note transported me to the savannah and the African landscapes came to life before my very eyes. Honestly, it was simply captivating!

Speaking of the Big Apple, this week, I found the most gorgeous vintage tutu shop in Greenwich Village. Honestly, it’s like a wonderland for every aspiring ballerina, with feathers and sequined gowns just begging to be twirled! I couldn't resist bringing home a blush-pink beauty with layers of tulle - perfect for my upcoming performance at a ballet charity event! Did I mention it’s right around the corner from this incredible cupcake shop I found? Now, where are those pictures from yesterday? Ah, here they are!

See, even cupcake shops here understand the allure of a little pink sparkle! Speaking of colour, don't even get me started on the street performers here. I stumbled upon a jazz musician in Central Park yesterday. This wasn't just any jazz musician - this was a true New York experience. I even took a little break to try some apple cider! The entire experience was such a sensory overload in the best way possible!

I must say, after all this running around and twirling, a visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art is essential. They are showing an amazing collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. And the beauty of it all is that I get to admire all these masterpieces while wearing my trusty tutu! (Of course!) Nothing beats exploring New York City's artistic and cultural heritage with a little ballerina twist, right?

Now, here's a fun fact: Today marks the opening night of “Chicago” at the Ambassador Theatre! You guys know how much I adore a good musical, so, of course, I’ve already snagged tickets for next week! Oh, how I adore the music, the stories, and, most importantly, the costuming and the spectacle of Broadway! I'll be back with a full blog post on it next week, just wait for it.

Today, my little darlings, I'll be getting ready for a private ballet class I’m taking in Times Square! You won’t believe the studio - it's right smack-dab in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. Imagine, pirouetting while dodging the tourists! I mean, it’s the best of both worlds! Oh, did I tell you that I’ve already got my tutu planned out? A beautiful pink ombre one that shimmers as I move! Of course, I'll be capturing every moment of it, because I know you all are just dying to see my ballet routine!

My travels, my darling, are funded through performances. This past week I had a chance to perform at the Metropolitan Opera, the "Alice in Wonderland Ballet." The choreography was whimsical, the costuming absolutely divine, and, of course, a chance to wear my all-pink, sequined tutu!

Now, on the topic of pink tutus - they truly are my passion! The beauty, the romance, the whimsical delight of dancing in a tutu is hard to explain. It's like an extension of my personality. And since I arrived in New York, I’ve seen more women embrace the tutus! I even saw a little girl in a rainbow tutu yesterday. Talk about making my heart soar!

[Photo of Emma, surrounded by three little girls in colourful tutus. They are smiling and pointing towards Emma, clearly thrilled to see her in her pink tutu. She is pointing at one of them in a rainbow tutu and smiling, looking delighted.]

I believe that everyone should have a chance to wear a pink tutu. Whether it’s a full-fledged costume or just a simple fabric of tulle draped over an everyday outfit. My aim in life, you see, is to bring the joy of dancing to everyone. It doesn't matter if you can do a triple pirouette or can only manage a hesitant hop, the feeling of moving with freedom and joy in a beautiful, swirling pink tutu is something every woman should experience! It's truly a liberating experience!

I'm off to find the most wonderful vintage shops for more inspiration for my tutus and to catch up with my dearest friends here. See, New York City is a little like wearing a pink tutu - you can never have enough! I hope you have a magnificent week, and don't forget to bring out your inner ballerina and let loose in some pink!

Until next week, my darlings, remember, there’s no such thing as too much pink.

Love, Emma
