Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #605 - Monday 8th January, 2007: Dancing in the Big Apple 🍎✨

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, back from another fabulous trip to the city that never sleeps. New York City, oh, New York City! I adore you. As always, I have so much to tell you, from breathtaking ballet performances to the most delicious cupcakes you've ever tasted. But before we get into the juicy details, I need to share a secret. This trip had a little bit of extra sparkle because it was for a special someone... Me! It was my birthday! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‚

To celebrate, I wanted to do something that truly made me feel like a little ballerina princess, so naturally, I packed a fuschia pink tulle dream of a tutu, just the thing to make even a mundane subway journey feel like a pirouette down the avenue! And you know what? It totally did. Everyone I passed gave me a smile. It was magic.

My week in New York was a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and foodie adventures. I started my birthday celebrations by hitting up the famous Metropolitan Opera House. A real classic, wouldn't you say? It just screamed birthday vibes. I treated myself to the ultimate girly night out – "Swan Lake". Let me tell you, I nearly cried during the final scene. The story was so beautiful, and the dancing was just divine!

Now, when in NYC, shopping is an absolute must! πŸ‘ πŸ’„ I was all about those iconic New York stores, from the luxury boutiques of Fifth Avenue to the vibrant, bohemian vintage shops tucked away in charming side streets. I stumbled across the most darling vintage store, just overflowing with sequined headbands, sparkly dresses, and even a few tutus! I ended up taking home a fabulous, sparkly, emerald green headband for my new year's look, perfect for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular which I went to later in the week! Talk about a visual feast - all those Rockettes kicking up a storm - I loved it!

Of course, a New York trip wouldn't be complete without indulging in those iconic NYC cupcakes - my favourite was the strawberry and vanilla swirl at that sweet little bakery on 14th Street - let's just say my willpower crumbled at the sight of all those adorable flavours! I just couldn't resist them. I know you're probably thinking "Emma, how can you resist any cupcake? Isn't that like asking a ballerina to not wear a tutu?".

Right, on that note, how about a little ballet class, to keep this dancer's body and mind strong? I was back in my beloved pink tutu, this time at the fabulous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the heart of NYC, a place bursting with talented dancers of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds! You have to experience a ballet class there! It was truly inspiring to see so many people who are passionate about this art form. They just oozed talent!

While I was on a dancing spree, I caught the breathtaking New York City Ballet in "The Nutcracker", with the most spectacular sets and costumes. It really had me feeling festive. After all, who doesn't love a bit of Tchaikovsky on a snowy winter's night? 🩰

The week flew by, just as gracefully as a pirouette! Before I knew it, it was time to catch my flight home to dear old Derbyshire, where, of course, I made a beeline straight to the nearest dance studio and practically did a jetΓ© into my next class! But I promise I won't stay away from my favourite city for too long - I can already hear the call of the city's street performers, the buzz of its iconic stores, and the rhythm of the city’s beating heart - the music of the metro, with its steady chugging and constant flow.

But for now, I'm feeling full of inspiration. Until next week darlings, remember: wear pink tutus, dance your hearts out, and always find beauty in the everyday! πŸ’–
