#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2007-01-29: Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple!

Hey, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, and this week's #PinkTutuBlogNYC post is extra special, because I'm back in the Big Apple! I just had to make a quick trip to the city that never sleeps, partly for some tutu-licious shopping and some super stylish ballet performances (oh, how I adore seeing shows!), but also because...well, because it's just NEW YORK, darling! Who can resist a visit to this city that oozes fashion, excitement and just a pinch of that magic that can only be found in Manhattan?

Now, you know I adore my ballet performances. So it was no surprise when my very own #PinkTutuBlogNYC bank account (filled with the earnings from my latest performances) practically cried out "Emma, honey, get yourself to the city and catch some stellar ballet!" And I did! The perfect way to start my NYC adventures, of course. This week, I got to witness the most delightful production of Giselle, courtesy of the fabulous American Ballet Theatre! Oh, the elegance, the precision, the graceful story-telling! Giselle is always such a favourite of mine, and the sheer talent on display made this rendition utterly captivating. I found myself utterly enchanted. It truly felt as if I had stepped into another world, full of beautiful movement and delicate storytelling. The whole experience left me utterly giddy! The gorgeous costumes, the stunning choreography, the breathtaking leaps...It all left me brimming with inspiration! You can tell why my tutu just wants to dance along!

As a proud Brit myself, I'm always thrilled to see my own talented countrymen shine on international stages! There was a real sense of pride in watching a fellow Derbyshire resident, Christopher Wheeldon, grace the stage as a choreographer, His work, both captivating and exhilarating, is a real inspiration! His signature style, a delicate balance of technical prowess and artistic expression, is a hallmark of contemporary dance at its best. And, with so many talented dancers sharing the stage, it was an utter treat to witness the joy they bring to the performance! It was pure theatrical magic, and I, with my tutu ready to twirl, was absolutely thrilled!

However, no #PinkTutuBlogNYC is truly complete without a bit of shopping! I absolutely adore New York! There's no better city for fashionistas than the one that birthed a style that oozes power, glamour and an undeniable touch of rebellion! Now, every girl knows that you can't truly understand New York's fashionable pulse without a pilgrimage to Fifth Avenue. That street is pure magic! The designer names, the sleek boutiques, the chic displays… you'll find anything and everything here! I couldn’t resist the lure of those shimmering window displays and popped into a couple of my favourite shops, leaving with a new pink sequined dress, a sparkling tutu for my own rehearsals, and a new pink hat (you know my love for the colour pink knows no bounds)! And of course, a quick detour to the legendary Bloomingdale's, where a perfect pair of pink shoes made their way into my shopping basket! They even have a ballet studio right there in the store! Honestly, could it be any more perfect?!

Oh, and the food! New York truly is a melting pot, a delightful concoction of tastes from all corners of the world. The smell of pizza in the air, the colourful array of bagels, the comforting aroma of coffee - just irresistible! This week, I took a delightful culinary adventure and treated myself to some authentic dim sum in Chinatown, where every bite was a journey through exotic flavors and delicate textures.

Now, it’s been quite a busy few days in this fantastic city, but I can’t say that I’m feeling anything but exhausted, but incredibly happy! The energy of New York never ceases to inspire me. I found myself walking through Central Park, letting the sound of children laughing and the symphony of bird song transport me to another world, away from the frenetic energy of the city streets. A real city-meets-nature moment. And what do you do when you want a truly elegant, quintessential NYC experience? Well, naturally, you head to The Metropolitan Museum of Art for some art and culture appreciation, naturally in a stylish tutu, because that’s how I roll, darling.

And because my NYC trip isn't complete without experiencing the iconic sights, I went to a beautiful ballet-inspired art exhibition. My mind was overflowing with inspiration! But as I ventured through the exhibit, I caught myself admiring the elegant figures, the graceful lines and the storytelling in every stroke, my inner ballerina kicked in. How perfectly suited this experience was for someone like myself! It truly felt like a world of artistic collaboration, where dance, art and culture merge in harmony! It really got me thinking about how these different artistic disciplines feed off one another, inspiring new perspectives and innovative ways to express beauty.

The experience reminded me of my favourite London show - Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai, which combined spectacular acrobatics with awe-inspiring dance, music and performance artistry - what a fantastic display of talent and passion! So inspiring to see a kaleidoscope of talents creating such magic on stage! I do have a plan to return to New York and delve deeper into its fascinating artistic culture – perhaps catch some performances of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater or Martha Graham Dance Company.

Of course, a trip to New York is simply not complete without riding the iconic subway! And darling, let me tell you, a ride on the NYC metro is an experience you never forget! Those carriages packed with diverse individuals, a symphony of voices buzzing around me, each with their own stories, heading to their own destinations - it's truly magical! It really puts life in perspective, and inspires a sense of wonder at the extraordinary lives happening all around us.

But my favourite moments? They’ve always been the unexpected ones, the chance encounters, the friendly conversations with fellow dancers or inspiring artists who I’ve crossed paths with.

Let me tell you, darling, New York really knows how to keep you busy, and while I may have a few tutu-ing and shopping miles under my belt, my love affair with this city is only getting stronger.

So, my darling #PinkTutuBlogNYC followers, stay tuned for more adventures next week, as I’m planning to continue to explore more of the incredible offerings of the Big Apple!

What are your favourite things to do in New York? What ballet performances would you recommend to my #PinkTutuBlogNYC friends? And are you embracing the tutu? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, keep it fashionable and fabulous!

Emma, your tutu-wearing blogger.
