Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #639 - New York, New York, It's So Good to See You!

Hello my lovely darlings! Emma here, back from another fabulous adventure, and this time it’s the Big Apple! 🍎 Yes, I’m finally in New York City! The place I've dreamed of visiting ever since I was a little girl twirling in my first pink tutu. And guess what? It's every bit as magical as I imagined!

For you see, my friends, I am on a mission! Not just to dance and spread joy through my pirouettes, but to get the whole world twirling in pink tutus! That’s my grand plan, and what better place to start than the fashion capital of the world?!

The last time I wrote you all, I was fresh off the plane from London (what a glorious flight!) – and frankly, the excitement is still bubbling inside me like champagne! The first thing that hit me when I got to my hotel was the energy. It’s alive, this city, humming with life. It’s exciting, vibrant, and a bit overwhelming… but I love it!

The minute I arrived, I changed into the perfect outfit, naturally: a lovely dusky pink chiffon tutu that swirled around my legs like a fairytale, paired with a soft, baby pink cashmere cardigan and some delicate silver ballet flats. I felt like I was walking out of a dream. 🩰

Right away, I decided to explore the neighbourhood surrounding my hotel. I was absolutely giddy! New York City feels like a whole new stage to dance on – with a different backdrop and a brand new audience. I was itching to find some little shops and perhaps indulge in a spot of lunch.

But first, the subway! 🚇 Ah, the glorious New York City subway – a real thrill! Of course, the best bit? Getting everyone on board staring at my bright pink tutu. There’s a good chance it’s been years since these serious New Yorkers have seen a full-blown tutu in action.

Let me tell you, the stares I received were worth every penny of the metro fare! I may be just a girl from Derbyshire, but there’s no holding back this dancing queen in the city that never sleeps.

I took the metro down to Fifth Avenue – and oh, the sheer loveliness! Every shop window was filled with stunning fashion and designer names. I could spend days wandering up and down this street! I may not have brought a giant suitcase with me, but it wasn't long until my ballet-class-turned-shopping-bag was overflowing. I’ll admit it: I had to put in a frantic call to my mum to see if she could somehow pack a spare bag into my luggage… I’m just that kind of shopper. 🛍️

By lunchtime, my feet were starting to feel a bit heavy (ballet flats are lovely for twirling, not for serious strolling). So, I popped into the most divine little tea room called The Pink Elephant. The whole place was covered in, well, pink! Even the pastries were adorned with a little pink swirl of icing sugar! The staff were so friendly and kind, and the tea was simply delicious. They even had this beautiful jasmine tea, perfect for an afternoon ballet class! My tutu and I both needed a rest!

I was feeling utterly energised and ready to explore even more of the city – and what’s more iconic in New York than a trip to Times Square? 🌃 It was bustling with people, screens flashing, and a never-ending energy! It truly is a magical place.

I found myself taking photos (like, tons!), giggling, and basically soaking it all in. You can tell this city has such a wonderful heart. The people here were kind, interesting, and surprisingly eager to chat with this bright-pink ballerina – who was, frankly, absolutely in her element.

Before the sun even thought about setting, I decided to treat myself to something even more amazing! A ballet performance at the Metropolitan Opera House! And let me tell you, the production was truly breathtaking!

They put on a classic Tchaikovsky production, and let me just say: my heart nearly burst from all the emotion. The music, the dancers, the costumes – it was all just magical. The entire experience made me want to leap right up on stage and twirl with them! It's always so inspiring seeing talented ballerinas on stage – it motivates me to push myself further!

Now, I wouldn’t dream of writing this blog without sharing my very own New York outfit! As a true ballerina at heart, I always bring a new tutu for every city I visit. This one was a dreamy lilac satin number – so incredibly beautiful and airy! I paired it with a sparkly baby-pink headband and my favourite pair of ruby-red shoes. Honestly, I could twirl for days! ✨

Now, I’ve gotta share a little something else… I've discovered the most enchanting ballet school just around the corner from my hotel. The walls are painted a lovely pastel pink, and there are rows upon rows of beautifully handcrafted ballet shoes on shelves! I had a moment of utter awe. This place truly is heaven on earth for a tutu-loving ballerina.

The next morning, I practically skipped over to that gorgeous ballet studio and took my first class in the Big Apple. The teachers were welcoming, the fellow students were sweet and inspiring, and let me tell you: it felt incredible. There was this warm, electric energy in the room, something special, like the entire city had vibrated into this ballet studio just for me.

Even though it was a morning class, my heart was already buzzing with excitement for what the rest of the day might bring. You see, darling, New York has captured my heart in ways I couldn’t even have imagined. And frankly, my wardrobe has gotten even bigger thanks to the city's dazzling shops! I might just have to pack another suitcase in tomorrow. I mean, a girl can’t have enough pink tutus!

I'm so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share these moments with you all. Stay tuned for the next chapter of my adventure. After all, my tutu and I are just getting started in the City That Never Sleeps.

Love always,

Emma xx
