Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Monday 2007-09-10 - She Danced in New York City! šŸ©° šŸŽ

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog, where we're all about spreading a little bit of pink, a whole lot of tutus, and a dash of dance-fuelled joy! This week, I'm bringing you my adventures from the dazzling, dazzling, big apple! That's right, dear readers, Emma's been dancing in New York City! šŸŽ‰

This is post number 640 for my NYC blog, which I post every Monday, so if you're just joining me, make sure to check out all the fun posts I've shared on www.pink-tutu.com! I'm really excited to tell you all about this trip - it's been a whirl of pink tutus, broadway shows, and fabulously stylish boutiques!

So, how did I make it to New York City? You know me, my dear friends, I'm always dancing for my dreams! I've been busy performing at ballet schools and charity events all over the UK, saving my pennies to take this once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Big Apple. (Though let's be honest, it would probably be more like "once-a-year", because you all know I can't get enough of this city! šŸ˜œ).

It's funny how things work out, really. I'd always been a bit obsessed with New York City, even as a little girl in Derbyshire. My grandmother used to read me all sorts of books about the city, and I'd dream of twirling down Times Square in my pinkest tutu! And what a wonderful thing it is to be living out those dreams!

Pink Power on the Subway!

Landing in New York is always a thrill. The energy here is electrifying! This time, I even managed to squeeze in some pre-trip excitement. Imagine, my darling, getting a little extra pink power from the moment I landed at JFK. A whole carriage on the subway was practically decorated with the most wonderful pink luggage. Like it had come straight out of a fashion magazine! I practically did a pirouette on the spot, I was so delighted! And yes, it does happen that my dreams sometimes take over and I do the odd little dance move in public, and yes, I don't mind a single bit! (Even if I do get a few stares from the locals sometimes! šŸ¤)

Speaking of locals, you wouldn't believe how nice everyone has been to me! I must say, my fellow New Yorkers seem particularly taken with the pink tutus this time around. Not just because they look amazing, obviously! I think they like that they add a touch of magic and happiness to the day. It reminds me of why I do what I do: I'm on a mission to get everyone wearing pink tutus, all around the world!

Of course, a trip to New York isn't complete without a bit of metro travel. My darling readers know that a girl on a mission needs her daily dose of fashion. Let me tell you, the New York City metro is a fashion wonderland, bursting with colours and personalities, all squeezing their way through the subway turnstiles. I love watching everyone's style. Just this morning, I spotted a woman in the most amazing vintage dress - all lace and layers - topped off with a bright yellow turban! A girl can't get enough of that New York style!

I wouldn't be a proper pink-tutu blogger without incorporating the perfect shade of pink into my metro look, though. My current favourite is a blush pink tote bag - so pretty! I picked it up on a little street-stall around the corner from my hotel, I swear it must have been designed for a girl with pink in her soul. I'm sure you're wondering, but yes, my ballerina skirt is always tucked neatly inside! šŸ˜œ

"Hamilton" in a Whirlwind!

First on my must-do list? You know, because I'm such a girly girl, you probably already know. It was the show everyone is talking about, that must-see broadway playā€¦ "Hamilton"! āœØ The historical rap-musical, everyone's favourite for the most creative choreography! I booked my ticket online as soon as I got my New York flight information - a proper ballerina has to plan ahead, my dears!

Honestly, you haven't lived until you've seen "Hamilton" in a gorgeous pink tutu. (Maybe I should send the producers a very subtle suggestion. Pink tutus would add a touch of magic, and the stage lighting is spectacular. I wonder what kind of choreography they could create with some twirls?! Oh my, just imagine the possibility of such a show! My inner ballerina wouldn't be able to stop squealing. Maybe next yearā€¦)

Anyway, it was incredible, darling. So much energy and so much passion - just the way I like it. And the actors! Wow, so talented! It truly inspired me to put on my pink tutu and get back to dancing! If I could move like them, well, I wouldn't be here writing you my blog!

But listenā€¦ It really got me thinking. Why do we think pink tutus are only for ballet performances? Maybe they'd fit into that show perfectly? Maybe even all those other shows on broadway would really benefit from the magical power of a little pink. Pink is all about expressing yourself. Itā€™s about having fun. And isn't that what a theatre show is all about? Thatā€™s what a ballerina is all about, for goodness sake!

After my whirl-wind show trip (pun totally intended), I practically pounced to pick out my perfect outfit. Well, I was just a little overexcited, you see. It wouldn't be fair on my dear readers to deny them this fashion experience! You know I just have to make a show out of it - itā€™s practically in my blood, darling. I had my heart set on the most incredible dress shop, you'd never guess where it wasā€¦

Stepping Out on 5th Avenue

Who doesn't love 5th Avenue, my darlings? It's the shopping destination for fashion lovers like myself. It's full of amazing windows displaying fabulous designs, beautiful handbags, sparkling jewellery. Everything to make any girlā€™s heart flutter! I love 5th Avenue for being so grand, for the way the pavements gleam under the sunlight and all the luxurious boutiques vying for your attention. Oh, it really does make you feel like a queen! šŸ‘øšŸ¼

Of course, it wasn't just about gawking at shop windows and snapping a few Instagram photos - though, those photos do add a bit of magic to a blog post, wouldnā€™t you agree, darling? No, it was all about the experience, you see. And for me, itā€™s all about the details. I just couldn't pass up a quick browse through Saks Fifth Avenue, darling. Their displays are breath-taking. I got so caught up admiring their jewellery, but the way the colours played on their outfits - just gorgeous! Just take my word for it, the outfits there really make you want to twirl! I could tell by the expressions of those lovely shop assistants that they agreed, too, with that dreamy, fairy tale feeling of their shop. (They didnā€™t say that in so many words, but they did say the tutus in the Alice in Wonderland windows are extremely popular!)

Shopping for a Good Cause!

I made my way down 5th Avenue, taking in the spectacle, until I spotted the most adorable little vintage boutique. It had a gorgeous pink awning and a name that just drew me in - ā€œThe Pretty Tutu Boutiqueā€œ! Now, it wouldnā€™t quite live up to my ideal ā€œThe Pretty Pink Tutu Boutique,ā€ (which every city deserves), but you've got to love that cute pink detail! Whatā€™s more, they were holding a special event: ā€œShop for a Good Causeā€. And darling, I do love a charity!

Imagine, I'm thinking, this could be my opportunity to give something back. I love what I do, and I love fashion, but how incredible it would be to combine these things, help others, and hopefully get more people into that pink tutu look! It seemed the universe was sending me a big hint, you know how those moments feel when something is really meant to be? Well, that's exactly what it felt like. It felt so right! āœØ

As it turned out, they were running a fundraising day to support the Little Dancerā€™s School. It's this brilliant organisation helping to provide free dance lessons for disadvantaged children in the city. You could say my heart practically leaped through my pink tutu with joy! A lovely volunteer, dressed in an amazing floral print maxi-dress, took me under her wing, guiding me through the storeā€™s delightful collection of vintage treasures. They had these amazing sparkly dresses! And that stunning black jumpsuit that looked straight out of the 60s! Oh, they were both such beautiful finds, but no, darling, it was the bright yellow dress with embroidered birds I snapped up straight away! So pretty! šŸ¦ šŸ’›

Making New Friends - Itā€™s all about Connections!

Even better than a new yellow dress is meeting other lovely, fashion-forward friends. And trust me, my darlings, thereā€™s always a good fashion story to hear about from someone in the know, a tip to pick up, a little detail to consider. And I always try to pass my pink tutu tips to people I meet, so they can see how easy it is to add that touch of sparkle and happiness!

But as I was sipping my afternoon latte (with a delicious pink frosted cake ā€“ so good!) and chatting with the other girls at The Pretty Tutu Boutique, I found myself completely blown away! I love being in New York City, where fashion seems so unafraid and free. And I love making connections with fellow style enthusiasts - thatā€™s what a true ballerinaā€™s life is all about! We were discussing outfits, our favourite pink tutu ideas, the fantastic new ballet production about Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, opening up in October! Oh my! I could not wait to hear about the beautiful tutus in this one!

I had just told them how my trip had started with those incredible pink cases in the subway - yes, I was really on top of my game with sharing my pink vision, Iā€™ll have you know ā€“ when I realised it was getting late and the Tchaikovsky Swan Lake performance was about to start! (You did think that that was going to be the perfect climax to a magical day, didnā€™t you? šŸ˜Š )

Well, what can I say? You know me, my dear readers. A true ballerina simply canā€™t resist an opportunity to soak up a ballet. So, after another quick dash through Times Square (the lights always dazzle! Oh, my darlings, you have to visit when they come on!), I was flying towards the theatre, with my tutu blowing behind me (thankfully not too strong of a wind!), ready to be transported into that magical, graceful world!

"Swan Lake" on Broadway - More than just a Pink Tutuā€¦

You already know, my darling, that the magic of ballet takes my breath away. But seeing Swan Lake on Broadway! Oh, the theatre was bursting with people, so beautifully dressed! Even more incredible, it was my first time seeing Swan Lake on such a spectacular stage, and with all the dramatic staging, I felt like I was on a grand ballet tour of my own!

But you know why Iā€™m writing this? (I can almost hear your squeals from here!)ā€¦ You've got to understand that this production of Swan Lake felt almost designed for me! Why else would it feature the most magnificent white tutu (even better with its touch of pink, darling!) Iā€™ve ever seen in all my years watching ballets?! Iā€™m talking feathers, layers of beautiful fabrics, and that exquisite touch of colour I always look for, and oh, did I mention it had an array of stunning pink highlights?! Perfection! Iā€™m so glad I followed my gut, even when the clock was ticking on those magical ballet dreams, darling, so glad! šŸ˜Š

Sharing the Pink Tutu Love!

You see, I believe every girl should be given the chance to wear a pink tutu - to feel beautiful, strong and magical.

As I stood there watching those amazing dancers, in their gorgeous, shimmering tutus, I realized that ballet isn't just about fancy steps. It's about expressing yourself through movement and that sense of magic, and sharing it with others. Itā€™s about pushing boundaries and reaching for your dreams! Thatā€™s why, darling, I am always looking for ways to connect with dancers of all ages. And my pink tutu is my little way of reminding everyone to never stop dancing in their own heart. šŸ©°šŸ’–

Now, don't you worry - my Pink Tutu Adventures continue next week. I've got some fantastic pink-tastic ideas I've been sketching out. So, be sure to join me here, every Monday on www.pink-tutu.com and get ready to spread some pink joy!
