Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Monday 1st October 2007 - Post 643

Good morning, lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu blogger, writing to you live from the dazzling city that never sleeps… New York City!

Oh, the joy of a brand new week in this fantastic metropolis! As I sip my coffee, looking out of my little, pink-hued hotel window onto the bustling streets below, I can't help but smile. This city just gets under your skin, doesn't it? The energy is electric, the fashion is bold, and the opportunities for adventure are endless.

This week, my dears, I'm bringing you all the juicy gossip on ballet, fashion, and the magical journey I’ve embarked on through the Big Apple. It's been an absolute whirlwind! The past few days have been a dazzling blur of tutus, Broadway shows, and some seriously fabulous fashion finds!

Before I dive into the details, let me just say - this trip wouldn’t have been possible without the lovely patrons of the arts. Yes, my loves, my performances have been quite the hit, allowing me to fund this incredible adventure! Speaking of which… let’s go back to the beginning…

A Derbyshire Lass in the City That Never Sleeps

You see, darlings, just a few weeks ago, I was back home in Derbyshire, England, perfecting my arabesques and pirouettes in my cosy little dance studio. Life in the English countryside has its charms - the rolling hills, the fresh air, the quaint little tea shops. But this city girl was feeling a bit… itchy. I needed a change of scenery, a burst of vibrant energy, and of course… some serious fashion inspiration!

New York City beckoned with its siren call, whispering of Broadway lights, Fifth Avenue shopping, and the endless thrill of urban exploration. So, I packed my favourite pink tutu (naturally!), my lucky pair of ballet shoes, and my trusty suitcase full of bright colours and bold designs. With a sprinkle of glitter and a heart full of excitement, I boarded the plane and stepped onto American soil!

The moment I arrived, I was hit with that unmistakable New York energy – the sheer hum of life! People dashing through the streets, yellow taxis weaving in and out of the traffic, the intoxicating aroma of hot dogs and coffee wafting through the air. It was magical!

New York, I’m home!

First Stop: Ballet in the City

I'm not sure if it’s just me, but New York seems to just sing to the rhythm of ballet. There's this elegant energy here, a dedication to the art form that you simply don't find anywhere else.

My first mission, darlings, was to experience the magic of the city's ballet scene. My dear friend, Annabelle (you may remember her from my blog back in July when she surprised me with a gorgeous vintage tutu - pink, naturally!), met me with open arms. And, true to her kind and adventurous spirit, she was excited to see everything New York City had to offer.

On Tuesday, we headed straight to the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. The air hummed with excitement as we joined the throngs of theatre-goers, a mix of elegantly dressed socialites and excited young dancers, all gathered in anticipation of the grand spectacle. The performance itself was utterly breathtaking – the dancers were exquisite, their movements as fluid as silk. Every pirouette, every grand jeté, every plié was a testament to the sheer skill and dedication that defines these magnificent artists. The whole experience was truly moving.

I took copious notes in my little pink notebook, inspired by the grace, the passion, and the powerful artistry. My very own little pink tutu was feeling the inspiration!

Of course, no ballet adventure would be complete without a visit to a beautiful dance shop! We headed to the heart of the city's bustling Broadway district and strolled through Capezio, that iconic dancewear mecca. We felt like children in a candy store as we surrounded by vibrant leotards, sparkling tights, and shimmering shoes. Of course, I indulged in a couple of treats – a fluffy pink tutu (just imagine the colour, darlings!) and a pair of sleek black pointe shoes, which are, I confess, a little bit more adventurous for a Pink Tutu Blogger. But they really are very chic and go perfectly with all the outfits I’ve been acquiring.

Speaking of outfits...

The Great Pink Tutu Challenge: Finding Inspiration Everywhere!

After our whirlwind of ballet and dancewear, I knew I had to conquer the next challenge: finding the perfect outfit for the Pink Tutu Challenge!

I mean, how else was I going to share the joy of the tutu with the city?

Yes, my dear friends, the Pink Tutu Challenge is something I have been quietly working on since the beginning of this trip. It’s a secret, for now!

I'm not going to give too much away, but let’s just say this… it’s a project of enormous love and dedication! A testament to my unwavering belief that the power of a pink tutu is limitless!

We hit the streets and started at Bergdorf Goodman’s iconic store. The fashion paradise itself! Annabelle was my personal style guru for the day, whipping up looks and styling outfits with the energy of a whirlwind. You know what they say, darlings - “There's no dress code in fashion – just a sense of style." I absolutely adored every minute of this journey.

We also popped into the amazing Bloomingdales - it’s just a feast for the senses! So much to look at, and I definitely found some key pieces I couldn’t resist. (Spoiler alert – some of my Pink Tutu Challenge pieces came from Bloomingdales!) Let's just say a little bit of glitz, glamour, and that essential sprinkle of pink tutu magic.

For those of you who have followed my blog, you know how much I love vintage! So, our next stop was a must-do – the enchanting A Second Chance Vintage on Sullivan Street. It’s full of treasures – all ready to be unearthed and loved once again. I’ve been collecting vintage items for ages - everything from exquisite Victorian dresses to 70s boho chic. And guess what? It’s going to play a huge role in The Pink Tutu Challenge! * 🤫*

I also found the cutest pink tweed hat with a bow for my challenge. My blog will tell all - when the time is right, naturally!

The beauty of New York City lies in its infinite fashion choices. From the elegance of Madison Avenue boutiques to the vibrant streets of Soho, you'll find everything you need to create a statement, to express your unique style, and, of course, to share your love for the pink tutu!

A Broadway Journey

What’s a trip to New York without an evening on Broadway? We opted for "Mamma Mia!", a feel-good classic full of dancing and those infectious ABBA songs. I mean, what's not to love?! The performance was a whirlwind of laughter, tears, and energy - absolutely fantastic. (Let's just say that Annabelle and I sang our hearts out during the songs!)

But I can't lie, a little part of me was still thinking about the Pink Tutu Challenge, the excitement bubbling within me. What would it look like? How would the city embrace this vision of fun, creativity, and, dare I say, sheer delight? The inspiration flowed, buzzing around me like a bee in a flower patch, creating its own magical little world.

As the lights faded and the curtain fell on Mamma Mia!, my head was already swirling with ideas, excitement coursing through my veins. This city, my friends, is a powerful force. It inspires, it encourages, and it embraces every shade of individuality – just like a perfect pink tutu.

From Ballet to Bloomingdale's: Finding Myself in New York City

New York, it’s true - you've totally swept me off my feet! It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, the whirlwind of opportunity that swirls around you like a dazzling, colorful dress. I must admit, I’m a little in awe.

This trip is more than just fashion and fun. It's about self-discovery, about pushing boundaries, about inspiring others to embrace the joy of being oneself… and yes, a tad bit about the power of the pink tutu!

For now, my dears, this New York adventure continues. I’ll keep you updated, with every new tutu twirl, every stylish find, and every new adventure.

Until next week, be true to yourself and stay sparkly!

Love,

Emma xx
