Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #642 Monday 2007-09-24: She Danced in New York City!

Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple. This week, I've got so much to share about my adventures - think pink tutus, iconic dance performances, Broadway shows and, of course, shopping! Let's get this fabulous fashion fiesta going!

Tutus and the City

Remember how I told you in last week's post about my goal to see as many performances as I could in the Big Apple? Well, let me tell you, my little dancers, this weekend did not disappoint!

On Friday evening, I made my way down to the beautiful Lincoln Center. It was so thrilling to walk through those grand doors and be greeted by a sense of elegance and history. Tonight was all about a very special performance – the New York City Ballet. You guys know I adore ballet, and this performance was utterly enchanting! The dancers were so skilled and expressive; it was breathtaking to witness the stories they told through their movement. I could barely contain my excitement throughout the entire evening. The costumes, the music, the whole experience just had me floating on a cloud of joy.

And did you catch that gorgeous shade of pink in the costumes for the "Afternoon of a Faun" piece? My favourite tutu colour - you know, it just has this whimsical, playful and almost otherworldly quality, don't you think? I am utterly obsessed. And speaking of obsessions...

Shopping Adventures in Manhattan

No trip to New York would be complete without indulging in some serious retail therapy. Saturday was devoted to this very pursuit. We kicked off the morning in SoHo, which is practically a fashion haven. I must have spent a good three hours weaving through boutiques and vintage shops, on the hunt for that perfect statement piece to complete my wardrobe.

One standout store was a charming little boutique called "The Pink Elephant". It was, as the name suggests, positively overflowing with pink goodness! Every item was a little bit eccentric, with playful prints and flamboyant styles - the perfect place to unleash my inner tutu-loving fashionista. I found this stunning pink sequined blouse with puffed sleeves, perfect for dressing up any look, especially for a theatrical performance. Oh, I am in love with it! It made me feel so sophisticated and a touch naughty, and let me tell you, the paparazzi didn’t stop coming with all that sparkle. It just has to go straight to the front of the Pink Tutu Wardrobe.

The shopping spree took me down to the bustling Fifth Avenue, with its towering department stores. My inner fashionista just wanted to lose herself amongst those rows of clothes. Did I mention that I was trying on dresses for practically an entire afternoon? I was on a mission, dear readers, on a mission to find the most glorious, flamboyant outfit for our Sunday afternoon outing to a famous New York City restaurant...

Pink Tutú Brunch

It was almost Sunday lunchtime when we made our way to the Plaza Hotel for a glamorous high-tea. It was the most extravagant, delicious affair I could ever imagine. And, of course, no brunch for a tutu-loving girl is complete without a touch of pink. I wore that exquisite, sequined blouse I found, with a fitted, emerald-green skirt and my trusty, fluffy, bright-pink tulle tutu. I know it sounds a little bit over-the-top, but you see, this is about expressing myself and the joy of pink tutus! We feasted on finger sandwiches, delicious scones, and delectable desserts all while indulging in sparkling pink lemonade and the most decadent chocolate-strawberry tarts - so much so that even I, a self-proclaimed tutu-wearing ballet aficionado, almost popped! But it was just divine!

The Majestic "Phantom of the Opera"

Sunday evening meant the ultimate New York theatre experience – "The Phantom of the Opera". Oh, this show was utterly mesmerising. The sets, the costumes, the music… the drama! I found myself swept away by the power of storytelling. Every note of that hauntingly beautiful music reverberated through me. I particularly loved the "All I Ask of You" duet, which, even as I write this, I am still humming. My heart just sank at the sheer majesty and raw emotion, the power of music, the love story that just had me wanting to see it all over again.

By the end of the show, I was filled with an incredible sense of accomplishment – it's almost as if I had experienced all of New York in those few short days. I really got a taste of its art, its fashion, and its energy.

And of course, the whole trip has filled me with inspiration for new posts – I mean, you simply cannot visit New York City and not be inspired. My readers have a lot to look forward to, my dear tutu-lovers. Next week, I will share some fashion tips on how to work the tutu look in a variety of ways, plus, some ballet-inspired street style tips, because who says we can’t combine elegance with a touch of rock-and-roll, right? Until then, wear your tutu proudly!

Love and sparkles,

Emma xo
