Pink Tutu Blog NYC #670: Twirling Through the Big Apple!

Monday, 7th April 2008

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back with another juicy update from the bustling metropolis of New York City! The Big Apple, as they call it, really does have it all, and I'm practically twirling with excitement as I sit down to share all the fabulousness with you.

This week has been a whirl of ballet, shopping, and a sprinkle of New York City charm. It all started on Saturday morning, my feet practically dancing a pirouette down Fifth Avenue to the most incredible vintage shop. Honestly, my dears, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of satin and sequins - a vintage Valentino dress, a feather boa, a hat adorned with an abundance of faux jewels, and, oh, the shoes! Imagine my delight! This is the sort of fashion find that makes you want to belt out "New York, New York" at the top of your lungs.

But before we delve into my fabulous wardrobe acquisitions (and oh, you'll be dying to see!), I need to tell you about the highlight of my week: The New York City Ballet's performance of Swan Lake! I confess, darling, it's always a special treat to witness such incredible talent and grace in the heart of the city that never sleeps. And the Swan Lake performance on Saturday night was truly magnificent. I simply couldn't help but steal a peek at the backstage, imagining myself performing under the glorious spotlights - wouldn't that be a dream?

The thrill of witnessing world-class ballet never fails to ignite my soul with joy, inspiring me to twirl even more fiercely (and of course, in my pink tutu, because when else would I do it?).

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a Broadway show, would it? This time, it was the iconic Chicago, and let me tell you, those sassy and bold women brought the house down. Honestly, the energy in that theatre was electrifying! I felt a part of the stage magic myself. And of course, my trusty pink tutu made an appearance in the theatre, garnering admiring glances from fellow patrons. After all, my dears, spreading the pink tutu love is my mission!

But let's talk shopping. The day after Swan Lake - that would be Sunday - was dedicated to an epic shopping expedition in SoHo. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I can't resist a little retail therapy, and oh my, did I find some gems! The stores in SoHo are absolutely delightful. They’re full of one-of-a-kind designs, vintage treasures, and stylishly unique boutiques that make you want to say "I'll take the whole shop, thank you!" Well, maybe not the whole shop, but definitely a hefty bag of goodies. I've already found a fabulous new top - it's silk, with intricate lace detailing and an exquisite shade of dusty rose - I practically screamed with delight! It's simply perfect for a summer evening in New York. And you just know, I paired it with my trusty pink tutu, because why not add a little extra sparkle to every outfit?

Speaking of sparkle, I can't forget the amazing views! The iconic skyline of Manhattan, glittering beneath the neon lights, is always an absolute feast for the eyes. From the top of the Empire State Building, with the wind whipping my pink tutu around my legs, I couldn't help but feel the most incredible sense of freedom and exhilaration. The feeling, darling, it's truly magical.

Of course, being a devoted ballet dancer, my trip wasn't complete without visiting the beautiful Lincoln Center. I absolutely adore their grand architecture and, more importantly, the vibrant art and culture they have to offer. A stroll through the halls of the Lincoln Center with a good book, contemplating all the stories swirling around, is truly divine.

Speaking of swirling, I simply had to mention my subway adventures! It’s my favourite way to navigate the city, a fast, efficient way to experience the heartbeat of New York! Imagine me, in my vibrant pink tutu, gliding through the subway, catching glimpses of city life as it zips by - it’s like a ballet of its own! And let’s face it, when in New York, being as chic as possible while embracing the everyday rush and bustle is absolutely essential. Don’t you agree, darling?

This week in New York City, with all its energy and unforgettable experiences, has simply been an absolute whirlwind of fun. From the grand ballet performances and breathtaking sights to the shopping escapades and the pulsating heart of Broadway, it’s a city that truly captures your imagination and leaves you longing to return.

But as always, it's time for me to say auf wiedersehen, my dears! This pink tutu has to pack its suitcase and prepare for a new adventure. Remember, darling, the most important thing in life is to spread the joy of ballet, to twirl, to live, and, of course, to wear pink! Until next week, stay fabulous, and never forget: you're all magnificent, beautiful ballerinas in your own right.

Sending you all the pinkest of kisses,

Emma x
