Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 5th May 2008 (Post 674)

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, reporting live from the Big Apple! This week, I've been swirling my way through New York City, following the thread of sparkly sequins and fabulous performances, all while trying to convert the city's stylish residents to the pink tutu way of life!

You see, my dear readers, I believe that the world needs a little more sparkle and twirl. Pink tutus, with their joyous colours and airy movements, embody that spirit perfectly! My aim? To inspire everyone, from Wall Street bankers to Broadway dancers, to embrace their inner ballerina and embrace the world in a pink tutu. 😉

The Metropolitan Adventure Begins

This Monday morning, my trusty pink tutu and I took to the New York subway - such a charming, noisy experience, much like my favourite Covent Garden performances in London. We rode the train, my tutu billowing slightly with each jostle of the carriages. Honestly, it’s become an integral part of my ensemble; its pink fluffiness creates the perfect shield against the city's fast pace.

First stop, the New York Public Library! It’s not every day that you see a pink tutu bounding into a place so serious, but trust me, they’re used to all sorts of eccentric patrons in this wonderful, literary haven.

My goal? To research all things fashion history and performance. You wouldn’t believe how many stunning costumes and outfits grace the pages of old magazines! Imagine the history swirling around you within these walls! I’ve taken quite a few notes for my next pink tutu-themed blog posts, so stay tuned for more fashion history gems!

A Ballerina's Paradise

After the Library, I took a quick jaunt over to the Baryshnikov Arts Center. It's a dancer’s dream come true! Just walking through the doors, you feel a sense of pure artistry, with walls adorned with posters for future shows. It’s a testament to the sheer creativity and dedication found within this bustling metropolis. I had the opportunity to attend an open rehearsal of a modern ballet, a very different style compared to my classically trained background! Yet, the grace and fluidity of the dancers captivated me, showcasing the power and versatility of dance in its purest form.

Later that day, I was utterly thrilled to attend the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center. My tutu danced along in the seats as I marvelled at the sheer elegance of the dancers and their captivating expressions. There's something utterly magical about watching talented individuals perform so flawlessly in front of a large audience, a sentiment that brings me back to my roots, to my time spent training as a young ballerina back in Derbyshire, England.

However, New York City Ballet wasn’t the only show on my agenda for this day. I took a quick stroll over to Broadway, where the neon signs glowed brightly, announcing the magic of theater to the world. And of course, what trip to New York is complete without a Broadway performance, right? So, with my heart thumping with excitement, I slipped into the plush red seats of the Winter Garden Theatre to watch "Wicked," a spectacle of singing, dancing, and powerful storytelling.

Of course, no self-respecting tutu-clad blogger could resist a visit to the legendary Bloomingdale’s after a day of dancing. It's like a pink princess’ paradise! I indulged myself in a delightful cup of tea at the tea salon and bought myself some luxurious silk scarves for my tutu collection - a necessity for any self-respecting tutu enthusiast!

I love how each scarf, each fabric, feels on my skin! They whisper secrets of their own history; of weavers, looms, and bustling workshops! And imagine the patterns, the vibrant colors, each a masterpiece of artistry that enhances my beloved pink tutu’s beauty! They are little details that make the whole look truly dazzling and add another dimension of beauty to the already delightful dance of my tutu.

As the day wound down, I savoured a scrumptious dinner at a little Italian bistro nestled on a charming side street. They even gave me a slice of complimentary tiramisu because my pink tutu was so adorable! My, oh my! How lovely the people of New York can be.

And there you have it, dear readers. Just another whirlwind day in New York City, a whirlwind where I continue to embrace my pink tutu passion! And now, as the stars begin their own slow dance across the city sky, I must bid you adieu! Until next Monday, stay pink, stay fabulous, and never, ever let go of your inner ballerina! 💖
