Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 12th May 2008 - A New York Dream!

Post 675

Oh, darling, can you believe it's Monday already? Time truly does fly when you're having fun! I'm still basking in the glow of my incredible weekend in New York City. I truly do believe this metropolis holds a special place in my heart. There's simply an energy here that you can't find anywhere else. And with the vibrant pink tutu I chose for today's outing, I'm ready to soak it all in!

Now, before I get ahead of myself, let's rewind the clock to my whirlwind journey!

Arriving in Style:

As soon as I landed in JFK, the hustle and bustle of New York truly felt like a hug. I couldn't wait to jump onto the metro. I mean, where else can you experience a human sea of colourful faces and accents just whizzing past? It was truly fascinating, like a performance in its own right! And, of course, my pink tutu became a real talking point! You wouldn't believe the looks and smiles I received - the pure joy in those eyes!

I'd been in New York for about an hour before I knew it was time to do a bit of serious shopping. I needed to find the perfect ensemble for tonight's ballet performance, a real gem of a show by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater! You see, this trip has been carefully planned. It’s the ultimate mix of balletic bliss, fashion-filled shopping, and of course, the New York City glamour.

A Shopping Spree & the Perfect Pink Tutu

My first stop was Bloomingdale's. Oh my, it’s an absolute haven of elegance! Now, I do believe that a pink tutu can go with practically anything, but let's be honest, I wanted a fresh look, one that truly reflected the vivacious energy of New York. And what did I stumble upon? You guessed it! A glorious pink tulle skirt, swirling like a ballet dream! I paired it with a chic black top and a pair of fabulous, high-heeled shoes. They felt like a symphony for my feet! And just as I was making my way to the till, I saw it! A beautiful pink feather boa! It felt like fate - a touch of New York flair for my tutu ensemble!

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre: A Breathtaking Spectacle

As evening descended upon the city, the anticipation was buzzing! You see, for a ballerina like me, seeing Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre was a must. And boy, did they deliver! The energy in the theatre was electric, the dancers’ skill breathtaking. From the powerful leaps to the graceful pirouettes, it was a masterpiece in motion. I felt every ounce of passion, every ripple of emotion - it was truly a transformative experience! It's so important to surround yourself with things that inspire you. And witnessing a performance like that, well, it truly is magical.

NYC Ballet After-Party: Dazzling in Pink!

To be honest, I was quite worn out after the performance, but, my darling, a ballerina simply can't resist a good party! So, there I was, glowing under the twinkling city lights, mingling with the theatre crowd. I admit, I wasn't expecting a ballet after-party to be this lively. I mean, these people knew how to dance! It was fantastic! Everyone loved my pink tutu – it became a symbol of the joy of movement and expression, reminding everyone about the magic that can come with simply being present and dancing!

The Delight of a Sunday Stroll & Central Park:

Sunday dawned bright and beautiful, beckoning us for a stroll through the iconic Central Park. You simply must take a walk here if you're ever in New York. The beauty of the scenery is incredible! I’d planned a picnic with a few fellow ballet dancers who’d come to join me for the weekend. The air was crisp, the sun warm, and we sat chatting, laughing, and nibbling on our delightful picnic feast. The lush green scenery provided the perfect backdrop for our shared laughter and our heartfelt conversation. I’ve always found that ballet and picnics go together like peanut butter and jelly. The tranquility of a beautiful picnic after a strenuous dance routine always rejuvenates the body and soul.

More Ballet Delights: A Touch of Elegance in the Bronx

You can't have a true ballet-inspired trip to New York without taking in some of the smaller performances too! It’s just such a delightful experience to find these hidden gems, where you discover truly gifted performers who might be starting out in their dance career. It’s such an inspiring feeling to watch passion and raw talent come together on the stage. So, I made my way out to the Bronx to witness the Bronx Ballet Theatre. It’s a beautiful theatre nestled within a vibrant community. You know how much I adore a performance like this – with such heartfelt emotion and authentic talent. It reminded me how deeply connected dance is to human emotion, the joy, the pain, the hopes and dreams. It's all there! And that is what I love most about this beautiful art form.

Back Home with a New York Glow:

I can't tell you how bittersweet it was to leave New York! My heart felt heavy with the promise to return soon, but also brimming with a sense of creative renewal.
