Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #676 - New York, New York, It’s a Wonderful Town!

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed, pink-loving blogger, and this week I’m bringing you straight from the Big Apple, New York City! It’s a dream come true to be here, a city of dreams and possibilities. Oh, and tutus! Yes, you read that right, I’ve already spotted a few lovely ladies wearing pink tutus (or tutus in general) whilst wandering through Central Park – that's a real feather in my cap! (Or, should I say, a bow in my hair?)

This trip, I’m truly indulging in everything New York has to offer, and as always, it all started at the iconic Grand Central Station. There’s something magical about this place; the sheer scale of it, the buzzing energy, the people, the shops – it’s an assault on the senses in the most wonderful way! Did I tell you how much I love the metro here? The architecture of the stations, the old-fashioned charm, and of course, the ability to zoom through this massive city with the ease of a pigeon gliding through the air – pure joy!

Anyway, enough about trains (but you all know I’m obsessed!), let's get into the juicy bits.

A Night of Magic: The Ballet Show

Oh my goodness! It was an incredible performance! I saw the world-famous American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House last night – a real treat! They performed Giselle – a masterpiece of romanticism. The graceful movement, the powerful emotions conveyed through each pose, the captivating story... I simply had to stand and applaud (and perhaps a tiny bit of swish-swish in my tutu too!). There were definitely some amazing costumes, I noticed, including some lovely, light-as-a-feather tutus! A real inspiration to see so much talent and artistry right here in New York City. It really reinforces my belief that everyone needs to experience the magic of ballet, especially with the graceful moves and enchanting tutus!

Pink Paradise: Shopping Therapy!

What’s a trip to New York City without a bit of shopping therapy? And for a pink-loving girl like myself, well, it’s practically a necessity.

Today I ventured into the delightful chaos of Bloomingdale's and found myself lost in a sea of exquisite designer handbags and shoes, the colours – so rich, so tempting! Thankfully, my inner voice reminded me that my tutu budget needed a bit of restraint – even if there was a glorious, fuchsia-hued Manolo Blahnik on sale. However, my inner voice did also remind me to “Treat yourself!” – so I indulged in a cute pink scarf and some perfectly petite ballerina shoes to add to my ever-growing shoe collection!

The beauty of shopping in New York City is that you can find absolutely anything your heart desires. It’s like a delicious pink candy land, full of colours, textures, and surprises around every corner.

The Charm of Central Park

Every time I visit New York City, I always spend an afternoon (or maybe even two!) in the glorious Central Park. The perfect place to soak up the sunshine (when it isn't raining!) and experience the bustling heart of the city without the claustrophobia. Today, I strolled through the park in my pink tutu, feeling like I was in a ballet scene. It was a beautiful sunny day with the vibrant green grass contrasting beautifully with the grey skies of the city buildings beyond the trees, a truly romantic and peaceful experience.

I even caught a performance by the Central Park Conservancy’s Band - an outdoor concert amidst the beauty of nature – how's that for a ballet setting! They were playing music from musicals and Broadway shows. The music floated on the gentle breeze carrying me through a nostalgic journey to past musicals, some of which I've been fortunate enough to perform in. (Yes, this pink-loving ballerina is more than a bit of a triple threat.)

The real joy for me was witnessing a group of young girls enjoying the performance, wearing pink tutus – I couldn’t help but cheer from the sidelines as they skipped around the grassy amphitheatre with their own twirling interpretations of the music. These are the future ballerinas, the next generation of tutu enthusiasts!

Evening Glamour: Broadway’s Buzz

As if New York’s Broadway could be anything less than a vibrant whirlwind of talent, tonight’s the night! It’s an exciting night to witness the spectacle that is a Broadway production, something you absolutely must do if you ever visit New York. Tonight I'll be watching the enchanting musical, Wicked – and I can't wait. It's such a wonderful story, about the untold story of the Witches of Oz - their struggles, their friendships, their journeys and above all, their unwavering friendship - a wonderful celebration of the beauty of friendship. And it has amazing costuming, I hear - I can't wait to see the tutus!

It’s truly incredible to think that I get to experience all this magic firsthand, it's a far cry from the rolling hills of Derbyshire where I grew up. But, it's these magical moments, this dazzling culture, and the city itself, that keeps me coming back to New York City, my beloved adopted city. There’s something for everyone, so let your imagination fly and explore every corner of this fantastic place!

Don't forget, you can follow me on social media for more daily updates and photo diary - all featuring yours truly in my favourite tutu.

And remember, darling, it’s always tutu time! Until next week…

xx Emma
