Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #708: New York City's Glitter and Grace (Monday, 29th December, 2008)

Hello darlings!

It's Monday, and you know what that means! Another exciting week kicking off on my Pink Tutu Blog NYC! Today, I'm taking you on a whirlwind tour of my fabulous New York adventures - from ballet brilliance to Broadway glamour.

Remember how I told you I was absolutely thrilled to be in New York? Well, it just gets better and better! It feels like I'm stepping into a storybook here, where every corner offers a new spark of magic. The energy here is truly infectious. I've been feeling incredibly inspired, and I swear, New York's got this uncanny knack of making you feel like you can truly do anything you set your mind to.

*A Breathtaking Ballet Ballet Ballet Ballet… *

Where do I even begin with this? The moment I arrived, I felt that magnetic pull towards New York's iconic ballet scene. Let's be real, you just have to experience it in all its glory! This week, I found myself utterly mesmerized at the New York City Ballet. This prestigious company, nestled at the heart of Lincoln Center, is a total dream for any ballerina. Imagine, dancing on the very same stage that has hosted legendary ballerinas! I felt that tingle of excitement knowing I was witnessing the epitome of ballet perfection.

This week, their programme featured Tchaikovsky's exquisite "Nutcracker". As the story unfolded on stage, my heart skipped a beat with every delicate step, every elegant pose. Seeing those phenomenal dancers gracefully navigate those challenging sequences just makes you want to fling your legs and twirl with reckless abandon! I swear, it's a spellbinding performance that will forever etch itself in my memory.

The beauty of ballet, the artistry, the raw passion and talent - it's just breathtaking. Even if you're not a ballet fanatic, New York's ballet scene will have you spellbound. I highly recommend a trip to Lincoln Center - it's simply enchanting.

*Broadway Dreams (And Some Much Needed Retail Therapy) *

After that spectacular ballet performance, it felt right to step into a whole new world of dazzling artistry – Broadway! I was lucky enough to score tickets to "Wicked". I had to see it for myself after all those rave reviews! It’s such a charmingly delightful production with fabulous music. Oh, and those costumes? Seriously jaw-dropping. There were just these vibrant, colorful swirls of shimmering fabrics that really set the scene. It felt like stepping into a fantasy world.

However, let's be honest, no trip to New York would be complete without a spot of retail therapy, right? Now, if you know me, you know my favourite thing is finding an elegant new tutu - it's just like finding a vintage jewel. And you know what? New York didn't disappoint. I found this absolutely stunning pink tutu at the Pink Party boutique in Soho, tucked away on a quaint little side street. It's practically screaming to be twirled under the disco ball of a grand ballroom. And let's just say, it made my weekend absolutely fabulous! You can never have too many tutus, right?

*My Metro Marvels *

And here's a tip for all of you, dear readers: the Metro! It’s a truly efficient and efficient way to get around New York. Just imagine the energy that’s pulsing through these underground tunnels, filled with people from all walks of life. It's an adventure every time you hop on! Just grab a good book (I've been enjoying "Pride and Prejudice", you'll never tire of that one), and before you know it, you’ll be whisked off to your next destination. I even met the most fabulous group of friends while on the Metro - one was a costume designer for Broadway shows, another was an artist painting vibrant cityscapes, and the other, you'll never guess - a professional ballet dancer! New York's charm? It's truly irresistible.

*Fashion on the Go *

What I absolutely love about New York is the fashion. Seriously, walking the streets is like watching a catwalk parade unfold before your very eyes! I have to say, I am absolutely loving the bold, statement pieces that I've been spotting – from fabulous feathered headbands to oversized hats that could make a Queen jealous! But my all-time favourite? Well, that would have to be a glorious pair of neon-pink leggings with a hint of sequins that I snagged at a little boutique near Times Square. You can bet those will be featuring in my upcoming performance, as well as my very next Pink Tutu Blog NYC post.

*Pink Tutus Take Over the World (One City at a Time) *

Here's the thing: I truly believe the world needs a little more twirling. And I mean that quite literally! New Yorkers have been incredibly welcoming to my pink tutu. In fact, a little boy on my walk through Central Park stopped to tell me I looked "like a magical fairy". And don't even get me started on the adorable smile on his face - it absolutely made my day. I genuinely believe in spreading that little bit of pink tutu joy wherever I go! And it just feels wonderful to bring smiles to people's faces, especially in the bustling, fast-paced environment of New York.

Now, don't get me wrong, this city is a million miles from my home in Derbyshire. I love those charming cobblestone streets and the warm, inviting country pub vibes - but New York is pure energy! There’s a thrill, an infectious sense of possibility that really sets this place apart. It makes me feel like anything is possible!

Until next time, keep those toes tapping and those hearts open,

With twirling joy and pink-tutu kisses,

Emma xx
