Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #736 - Dancing Through The Big Apple (Monday 13th July 2009)

Dearest readers,

Another glorious Monday morning in the Big Apple, and the sun's already pouring in through the window of my little studio apartment. Just imagine, sunshine in July in New York City! Who'd have thought it? Of course, being the fashionista I am, I have to wear something spectacular to celebrate. Today, my pink tulle tutu is swirling about my ankles as I type this, perfectly paired with a cream silk blouse and a chunky pink pearl necklace. Now, that's what I call a proper New York summer look!

But enough about me (although my outfits are clearly worth a good old gossip). This week's adventure has taken me all over this city, and it's been utterly phenomenal! This weekend saw me absolutely twirling with delight at a phenomenal performance of the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. Now, if you're looking for elegance, finesse, and sheer artistry, there's no better place to go than Lincoln Center, darling.

And the dancers, oh my, they were divine! Each step was pure magic, every move filled with emotion. And I even had the pleasure of chatting with a young, talented dancer after the show. Turns out she was also from Derbyshire, just like me! It's truly amazing how fate can bring us together, isn't it?

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a good dose of shopping therapy. I spent a whole afternoon browsing the chic boutiques on Madison Avenue, hunting for that perfect pink dress for my next ballet performance (let's just say, my wardrobe could never have too many pink outfits!). I even stumbled upon a quirky little vintage shop crammed with incredible old dresses and costume jewellery. Let's just say, I emerged with a dazzling turquoise hat that I simply had to have.

Speaking of things to do, you know I adore a good theatrical show. Last night, I spent the evening at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre, where I enjoyed a fantastic performance of Wicked! Honestly, you should all experience the magic of a live performance at the theatre! The costumes were divine, the music captivating, and the cast was phenomenal. Honestly, every single performance on Broadway just keeps getting better and better!

The one thing I always adore about New York, darling, is the metro! It's such a delightful way to see the city and just soak up the vibrant atmosphere. As I chugged through the subway tunnels on Friday, I overheard a group of schoolchildren singing the songs from Annie, all dressed in cute costumes. Now, doesn't that just fill your heart with joy?

And oh, speaking of heartwarming moments! It’s become a tradition of mine to visit Central Park every Monday morning, right after sunrise. It’s the perfect way to start the day, walking under the whispering leaves with my trusty cappuccino. As I enjoyed a lovely cuppa while sitting on a bench by the pond, I was charmed to witness a family having a picnic. The parents were teaching their little girl to dance, her twirling about on the grass in a sweet little pink tutu! Talk about spreading the pink tutu love! And just think, if a little girl from the middle of Manhattan can enjoy ballet and wear pink tutus, then you can too!

But that's just a taste of my New York City adventures! Stay tuned for more musings from this glamorous ballerina blogger. I'll be sharing my thoughts on the latest fashion trends (and, of course, all things pink), my favourite places to get my shopping fix, and my thoughts on the best performance I've seen in a while - a truly remarkable adaptation of Giselle at the New York City Ballet.

You know, you don’t have to be a ballet dancer to appreciate this incredible city, dear reader! I can’t wait to share it all with you in my next post!

Until next time,

Emma x

P.S. Have you all joined my "Pink Tutu for Everyone" campaign? Don't be shy! Post a picture of yourself in your favourite pink tutu with the hashtag #pinktutulove on social media. It's time to embrace our inner sparkle and make the world a more pink and playful place!

Further Afield: Beyond the Big Apple

This week, I had a lovely email from a fellow pink-tutu enthusiast, Amelia, who is planning a trip to London. She asked me for recommendations on which ballet performances she shouldn't miss. I simply adore Amelia's enthusiasm for all things pink! If you’re planning a trip to London anytime soon, let me know, and I can provide a list of my must-see performances. You really have to experience London ballet, dear reader, it's pure magic!

I was also thrilled to find a wonderful article in The Guardian, all about the growing popularity of pink tutu inspired street dance. Apparently, this whole "pink tutu for everyone" trend isn’t just limited to ballet. There’s this fantastic group in London that combines modern dance techniques with the fun and playfulness of a pink tutu. And their choreography is simply amazing, absolutely captivating. It's so inspiring to see all sorts of people embrace the pink tutu as a symbol of creativity, empowerment, and just plain joy!

Shopping Spree: The Ultimate Pink Tutu Accessory Guide

Let's be honest, you can't have too many accessories, right? And since we're all about embracing our inner ballerina this summer, let me share my must-have accessory list.

  1. Sparkling Tiara: A good tiara is an absolute must for any ballerina’s wardrobe. Whether it’s a crystal-encrusted crown or a delicate pearl-studded band, a tiara will add just the right amount of sparkle and elegance to your look. And honestly, every girl needs a bit of tiara magic in her life!

  2. Pink-tinted Sunglasses: No true fashionista can go out without a chic pair of sunglasses, and these shades should definitely be pink. They add an effortless air of glamour to any outfit, whether you’re rocking a pink tutu, a summery dress, or even just jeans and a T-shirt.

  3. Oversized Statement Earrings: Nothing screams "fashion forward" like a statement pair of earrings. This season, go for big and bold with statement designs in dazzling pink tones, or opt for pearl drop earrings, a true ballerina essential.

  4. Pretty Ballet Slippers: There's nothing quite like a classic pair of ballet slippers to add a touch of graceful sophistication to your ensemble. Slip them on for a stroll through Central Park or pair them with a beautiful pink dress for a summer evening party.

  5. Sparkling Pink Handbag: A gorgeous handbag in your favourite shade of pink is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. It’s a great way to show off your style, whether you choose a delicate satchel or a bold, structured tote.

Embrace Your Inner Ballerina!

No matter what your age, dear readers, there’s always time to embrace your inner ballerina. Whether it’s twirling around in your own pink tutu at home, enjoying a performance at a local ballet company, or simply listening to beautiful classical music, there's no excuse for not feeling like a dancing star.

And let’s face it, the world needs more pink tutus, right? So next time you’re feeling a little bit down, put on your most beautiful pink tutu, and just dance. The world's a stage, darling, and it's time to shine!

Yours truly,

Emma x
