It's Monday, it's November, and you know what that means? Time for another fabulous installment of #PinkTutuBlogNYC! This week, I'm bubbling over with excitement because, my loves, I'm in New York City! 🗽
Oh, the sheer joy of being back in the concrete jungle, breathing in the intoxicating energy, the symphony of horns, the chatter and laughter swirling around me. This place always gets my creative juices flowing, my imagination spinning with tutu-inspired ideas, and my shopping bag bulging with sparkly treasures!
Travels and Tutues
As always, my journey started with a spin through the Derbyshire countryside – nothing beats a crisp, early morning with the scent of autumn leaves swirling through the air before heading to Manchester Airport. I adore traveling by the London Underground. This trip, my outfit was a stunning rose pink tutu with delicate sequins shimmering with every sway of my hips, and a matching bolero, a little something to keep out the chill. A few giggles from fellow passengers, but you know what they say: “When life gives you a tutu, wear it with a smile!” 😜
Landing in New York, the energy hits you like a wave – electric, chaotic, and exhilarating. That glorious mix of smells – freshly baked bagels, street vendor hotdogs, a hint of cinnamon – that’s New York in a whiff!
This time around, I decided to stay in the Greenwich Village area, tucked away amongst charming brick-lined streets and coffee shops. What better place for a girl like me to soak up the bohemian atmosphere and find some quirky vintage treasures?
First Stop – Fashion Fever!
This morning, I danced my way over to Fifth Avenue. Oh, how I adore this street! All those glorious window displays with the most stunning clothing, handbags and shoes imaginable! You’ll never find me doing anything but dreaming out loud in a boutique full of silk, feathers, and sparkling sequins. It’s all about the detail and the dramatic; the more glamorous, the better! The joy of a beautifully crafted garment! ✨
This trip, my wardrobe has a distinctly glamorous theme. I’ve been hunting for the perfect vintage sequinned cocktail dress and found a masterpiece in a little shop tucked away on West 24th street. Imagine my delight when I found a gorgeous silver evening bag encrusted with rhinestones to match. And, of course, no ensemble is complete without the crowning jewel: a tutu – this one a delicate pale blush, with the softest layer of feathers around the hemline. Imagine the swoosh as I whirl around a glittering, moonlit ballroom – pure enchantment!
Dance with Me!
While fashion fills my days, the real purpose of my travels, you know, is to dance! Today’s ballet performance took me right into the heart of Manhattan’s cultural hub – Lincoln Center. The energy of this space always blows my mind! I'm sitting here as I type, my head swirling from the brilliance of Tchaikovsky’s "Swan Lake", a stunning interpretation with graceful dancers and beautifully painted backdrops. Oh, I could sit here for hours and just lose myself in the world of the ballerina!
But Wait, There’s More!
Tonight, I'm treating myself to a special experience - ballet street dance! Yes, my darlings, I'm heading to Brooklyn for a little night of urban twirls, jazz-inspired leaps, and all the high-energy vibes you could imagine! I have to say, this is one of my absolute favourite ways to immerse myself in New York's vibrant art scene! They might not wear tutus, but the sheer talent and raw emotion poured into every move leaves me utterly spellbound!
A Quick Pink Tip
Just a quick tip for my readers before I sign off. I love using this colour palette in the evenings, especially in the colder months when the sun sets earlier: deep purples, emeralds and rich ruby reds, accentuated with a bold lip – this season it's a daring crimson shade. For a fun evening look, I've paired it with my classic, oversized black blazer, black stilettos, and a luxurious purple scarf. Trust me, a little splash of colour works wonders on these long New York nights!
