Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #760 - Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps!

Monday 2009-12-28

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, back from another whirlwind week in the city that never sleeps, New York City!

Now, let me tell you, the last few days have been absolutely magical, and I can't wait to share every last detail with you lovely lot. Before I do, though, can I just say a big thank you for all your lovely comments last week. It really means so much to me that you enjoy reading about my adventures, especially my favourite part of the world: New York!

Right, onto the fun stuff.

A Spectacular Start

As the clock struck midnight on Christmas Day, I packed my pink sequin suitcase, slipped on my favourite blush pink tutu (because even Santa deserves a little bit of sparkle, wouldn't you say?) and headed to the subway. That’s right, folks, the journey to New York is all about embracing the magic of the Metro.

I adore the New York Subway! It's a constant spectacle, a pulsating energy that's unlike anything else. From the rhythmic clatter of the train to the snippets of conversations overheard, every journey is an adventure. And besides, it’s just the right sort of dramatic entrance for a pink-clad ballerina, wouldn't you say?

Speaking of entrances, my first New York experience was a grand one: “The Nutcracker” at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. Now, I know you all know I have a thing for ballet, but this production was truly spectacular. The set was enchanting, the costumes absolutely breathtaking, and the choreography was pure magic. I couldn’t help but be mesmerised by the sheer talent on stage – those ballerinas were simply ethereal! And the icing on the cake was getting to meet the famous principal dancer, a true inspiration. I must confess I felt like a teenager again, so star-struck was I!

A Little Bit of Retail Therapy

After the performance, it was off to explore the iconic New York streets. I’m convinced the shops here have a secret, almost magical energy. There's just something so intoxicating about wandering through the vibrant boutiques, smelling the delicious perfume, and catching glimpses of shimmering fabrics – it's simply heaven for a shopaholic!

My first stop? The famous Macy's for a dose of vintage fashion! I'm always on the hunt for pieces that tell a story, that have character, you know? And that’s precisely what I found – a dazzling pair of pearl-encrusted earrings and a navy velvet evening bag that wouldn't look out of place at a grand ball (oh how I love the thought of waltzing beneath sparkling chandeliers!) They both called out to me – you can't resist a good whisper from your inner shopaholic, can you?

Of course, my journey wouldn't be complete without a detour to Bergdorf Goodman, a treasure trove of luxury. There's something quite exquisite about the atmosphere there - a touch of glamour, a whisper of extravagance – and I love to soak it all in.

Lights, Camera, Broadway!

What’s a trip to New York without a Broadway show? It's a must, darling! I booked tickets to see “Wicked,” and let me tell you, the production was simply out of this world! The costumes were vibrant, the music was a dream to listen to, and the story – well, let’s just say, it definitely made me laugh, cry and cheer, all in one!

Ballet Class & Broadway Brunch

The following morning, I took a little ballet class at a lovely studio near Central Park, just to keep my technique in top form! Then, off to brunch at an enchanting little spot I’ve found, nestled amidst the bustling city streets – a true hidden gem.

A Toast to New York

That evening, I took in the city from the roof of a breathtaking bar, cocktail in hand, and was truly moved by the city's breathtaking skyline, with its iconic buildings reaching towards the heavens like dancers en pointe.

And you know, darlings, it was at that moment, surrounded by twinkling city lights, that I realised just how much I adore New York City. It's a place that sparks my creativity, that feeds my soul, and makes me feel like I can do anything.

This city's vibrant spirit is simply infectious! You know what? I think it’s just what my ballet performances need! A little dose of New York energy will definitely be woven into my next show, no question.

Stay Tuned, Darlings!

I know I’ve crammed a lot into this post, but you see, New York is like that, full of so much energy, so much magic, and so many wonderful experiences waiting to be shared. So, be sure to tune in next week, darlings, when I’ll be sharing even more of my exciting New York City adventures!

Until then,

Keep shining,

Emma xx
