Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Adventures (Post #790)
Monday, 26th July 2010
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another exciting installment from the Big Apple! ๐ This week, I'm bursting with stories from my weekend, filled to the brim with dazzling performances, shopping sprees that had my credit card whimpering, and enough delicious food to make even the most discerning New Yorker blush.
But first, a little catch-up! Did you know that this week marks exactly one year since I decided to take the plunge and chase my dreams in the magical metropolis that is New York City? A whole year of discovering the hidden gems of Broadway, navigating the subway like a seasoned pro, and of course, spreading the glorious pink tutu gospel to every corner of this dazzling city.
And what better way to celebrate than with a trip to the Metropolitan Opera House for the "Giselle" gala?! My love for ballet is well documented, and this production was a true masterpiece. The breathtaking costumes, the phenomenal dancers, and the sheer emotion of it all had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Seeing the passion of the performers on stage is always a real inspiration to my own ballet practice. Plus, let's be honest, there was no way I was going to miss an excuse to twirl around in a gorgeous pink tulle gown - perfect for celebrating one year in my New York dream!
Afterward, I popped into one of my favourite Midtown spots - a teeny, tiny little vintage boutique tucked away on a side street. Honestly, it feels like stepping back in time. They had the most amazing collection of silk scarves and dainty gloves, just begging to be paired with a fabulous tutu, of course. You know me, can't resist a good bargain! And, naturally, I couldn't resist trying on a few hats, because what is an outfit without a truly fabulous chapeau? ๐
Speaking of hats, my next stop was a whimsical tea shop near Union Square. They had the most charming little collection of antique teacups and teapots. I sat at a little window table and sipped a pot of delicious Darjeeling while enjoying the bustle of the street below. I almost didn't want to leave!
But, you see, the day wasn't over just yet. That evening, I had tickets for the highly anticipated Off-Broadway premiere of a new ballet company! The performance took place in a small, intimate theatre in Greenwich Village, and I have to say, I was blown away. The dancers were phenomenal, and the choreography was original and truly breathtaking.
What can I say? I was absolutely swept away by the energy and the sheer brilliance of this emerging talent. The sheer joy radiating from those talented performers truly is a privilege to witness, it gives you that feel-good factor! It just reminded me how much I love discovering new things and supporting those starting their creative journey! And as always, I'm trying my best to spread the joy of pink tutus and inspire everyone to embrace their inner ballerina!
Did I tell you about the food?!
Honestly, this city knows how to tantalize taste buds. I treated myself to the most heavenly bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon for brunch (seriously, this is the real deal here in NYC) and stumbled upon a little gem of a bakery that served the most divine cupcakes. Weโre talking pastel pink frosting, perfectly decorated, with delicious fruity fillings - just a small piece of pink paradise!
But my most memorable food discovery this week was this teeny tiny little cafe hidden away on a side street in SoHo. It's a small, unassuming place with the most incredible menu of authentic Parisian pastries. Imagine creamy macarons, delicately crafted รฉclairs, and perfectly crisp croissants. I spent an entire afternoon with my notebook, sketching out new tutu-inspired designs and sipping hot chocolate, and honestly, it was bliss.
So, there you have it, my darlings! Another magical weekend in the most exciting city in the world. It's moments like this that make my heart swell with joy and remind me why I love this crazy adventure.
Keep your eyes peeled for my next post, filled with more adventures, outfit inspiration, and of course, pink tutus galore.
And remember, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu! ๐
With love and twirls,
Emma x
