Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #795 - Dancing in the Big Apple! 🩰✨

Monday, 30th August 2010

Hello darlings! It's Monday, which means it's time for another exciting update from your favourite pink-tutu-clad, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma!

This week, I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement as I'm reporting to you live from the heart of New York City! This magical metropolis has been calling to me for years, and I finally managed to swing a performance at a fabulous little theatre in Greenwich Village last week, giving me the perfect excuse to spend a few days exploring this enchanting city.

Oh, I must tell you about the performance! It was an absolute smash. The crowd loved my "Swan Lake" interpretation – I mean, who doesn't love a bit of dramatic tulle twirling?! And the applause... it was like the sound of a thousand pink tutu-wearing fairies fluttering their wings in unison. Pure magic!

Anyway, I know what you're all thinking... What's it like, Emma, being a pink tutu-wearing ballerina in the Big Apple?! Well, I'm happy to say it's been simply divine! From the moment I stepped off the plane (I'll admit I nearly fainted when I saw the city skyline for the first time – wow!), everything has felt perfectly "Pink Tutu" -esque.

A Symphony of Pink in the City That Never Sleeps

The first thing I noticed was the sheer abundance of pink! From the bright pink door frames in Greenwich Village, to the pastel pink floral displays adorning the shops in Brooklyn, it feels like the city itself is embracing my signature colour.

Of course, no visit to New York would be complete without a little retail therapy! Yesterday, I spent a blissful afternoon hopping from boutique to boutique, soaking up the incredible energy of the Upper East Side. My handbag is overflowing with fabulously fluffy pink knitwear and some gorgeous, delicate lace scarves that are sure to bring a touch of whimsy to any outfit. I even snagged a fabulous, hand-painted vintage tote bag that features a whimsical image of a tutu-wearing ballerina - couldn't resist, obviously!

My Little Pink Tutu Adventure on the Subway

The New York Metro is a world unto itself. It's a constant cacophony of noise and energy, with the distinctive scent of hotdogs and pretzels mingling with the lingering aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

My pink tutu was a bit of a conversation starter on my travels - people kept smiling at me, and a few even complimented me on the colour. One kind gentleman even told me he loved my pink feather boa (I always wear one when I travel; it's such a fabulous way to add a little drama to my look!), adding, "it makes you look like a little flamingo!" - And he was right, it's a wonderfully vibrant colour.

Dance and Delight in the City That Never Sleeps

I have to say, this city has the most incredible dance scene. Every night there are several shows happening - I managed to catch a stunning production of "Giselle" at the Metropolitan Opera last night. Oh, the choreography was breathtakingly beautiful! And those costumes, simply exquisite!

This evening, I'm off to see "West Side Story" in the West End. I can't wait to experience this classic story unfold on a stage here in New York. After the show, I'm going to have dinner at a delightful little bistro called "The Pink Elephant". How fitting, right?

More than just Pink Tutues

Speaking of "Pink Elephant," this is actually where I'm going to take my journey to another level, literally. You see, for years I've been nurturing a secret ambition: to become a ballet choreographer! And guess what? The Pink Elephant is hosting a "Choreography Challenge" competition next month, and I'm going to be entering. Fingers crossed, I get through to the final.

This feels like the perfect platform to share my vision for a dance piece inspired by New York City, capturing the spirit of its vibrant street life and the endless possibilities this incredible city holds.

Pink Tutu Dreams in the City That Never Sleeps

Every day in New York City feels like an incredible adventure. Whether it's exploring a new neighbourhood, catching a fantastic show, or simply people-watching from a bustling cafe, this city is teeming with inspiration.

This has been a wonderful week, and I have a feeling this is just the beginning of my New York City love affair. You know me, darlings. I can’t resist a little bit of magic – and New York is bursting with it. But as I always say, it’s all about finding the beauty in the ordinary, finding the magical moments in everyday life, and making your mark on the world in a way that feels uniquely you. And when you’re feeling that bit lost, always remember, sometimes all you need is a little bit of pink tutu-tastic confidence to make your dreams come true.

Don’t forget, I'll be back next Monday with more of my adventures in New York City. In the meantime, you can catch me on my social media, where I'll be posting even more photos of my outfits, my adventures and of course, plenty of pink tutu inspired delights!

Until next time,

Emma 💕✨
