Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #806 – New York, New York!

Monday 15th November, 2010

Hello my dearest Tutu-loving darlings!

It's Emma here, your pink-clad, twirling ambassador from the heart of New York City, ready to share another magical Monday with you all. As I sit here in my little pink-hued hotel room, overlooking the city's twinkling lights, I'm feeling incredibly grateful for another week of adventure, grace, and the glorious feeling of tulle swishing around my legs.

This week in NYC has been a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and of course, tutus. As usual, I've been embracing the city's vibrant energy with open arms and a swishy pink tutu! It's truly an incredible feeling to see so many beautiful souls swirling and dancing in this concrete jungle. I'm convinced that tutus have the power to make even the most stressed New Yorker smile.

Speaking of smiling, let me tell you all about my amazing weekend! Friday was a night to remember as I twirled my way to the beautiful Metropolitan Opera House to see "La Traviata". I absolutely adore this tragic love story set to such breathtaking music. I mean, could you imagine anything more romantic? The costumes were exquisite, the singers' voices were truly enchanting, and the entire experience made me want to rush back to the ballet studio and practice until dawn. Of course, I wasn't able to resist the urge to pick up a gorgeous vintage hat in a little boutique just across the road from the opera house. I simply couldn't leave without adding a touch of Parisian chic to my tutu-infused look!

Saturday was all about finding the perfect pink dress for my latest ballet performance. It seems a bit daunting at first, considering the amount of options out there in the Big Apple. I mean, this city practically oozes with fashion! But then I stumbled across the most incredible little boutique in Soho. Filled with layers of beautiful lace, silk, and of course, the perfect shade of pink, this shop was my dream come true. The saleswoman was a real gem, too, advising me to choose a fabric that moved as beautifully as I did – can't say fairer than that, can we?

My final dance performance was on Sunday evening, a fundraiser for a local arts program. The energy in the theatre was so palpable you could almost cut it with a pair of sharp ballet shoes! It was wonderful to see the children in the audience enthralled by our graceful movements. It's truly fulfilling to know that I'm contributing to keeping the arts alive in such a vital, busy city like New York. It just goes to show that even in a world that's constantly moving at a frantic pace, beauty and grace can truly find a home.

After a tiring but joyous Sunday night, I found myself happily exhausted on the journey back to my hotel. The New York metro never ceases to amaze me - its rumble, its smell, its colourful personalities all contribute to the tapestry of life that is New York City. I couldn't resist striking a pose for a few photos in the carriage – just imagine the looks of bewildered commuters as my pink tutu pirouetted against the yellow and grey walls!

Now, let's move on to some fashion, shall we? I know many of you love the latest trends in balletwear and, as a proud ambassador of the pink tutu, I've always been a big fan of expressing my individuality through clothes. This week I've been captivated by the fusion of streetwear and ballet-inspired pieces I've been seeing on the streets. It's fascinating how the classic ballet silhouette – the flowing skirt, the graceful neckline – can be incorporated into everyday attire. From tutu-style mini skirts paired with chunky boots and leather jackets to a vibrant pink t-shirt layered over a flowing ballet skirt – there's a magical element of whimsy in every combination!

And let’s not forget the incredible window displays! Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street had a stunning showcase dedicated to all things ballet. Imagine pink pointe shoes glittering on mannequins adorned in tulle tutus, creating a whirlwind of colour against a backdrop of sparkling lights. Every step you took, you were transported into the magical world of ballet.

The best thing is, all this amazing inspiration gives me tons of ideas for new looks. I just love mixing classic ballerina styles with current trends, creating a unique touch that embodies my love for both elegance and the vibrancy of this fantastic city. After all, wouldn't it be fantastic to see more people embracing the magic of the tutu, whether they’re on the streets, at a ballet performance, or even in their own homes?

So, my darlings, take a deep breath, lift your chins, and let the graceful spirit of the ballerina guide your steps. Let your own unique style take center stage, and don't be afraid to experiment! Life is all about embracing the unexpected and discovering what makes your soul dance.

And remember, my dear friends, always twirl with passion and a smile on your face, even if you’re not wearing a pink tutu. After all, as my dear grandma always says, "You're never fully dressed without a touch of sparkle!"

And as a final thought – I couldn't possibly leave you without mentioning a little bit of what's in store for next week! Brace yourselves, my darlings, as I will be venturing out of the city for a little countryside escapade! I'm hoping to visit a quaint little town just outside of New York, maybe discover some hidden vintage shops and explore some hidden gardens.

I'm so excited to experience a different side of this beautiful country. But worry not, my beloved followers – my pink tutu will be along for the journey, ready to grace the rolling green fields and picturesque landscapes!

Until next Monday, darling readers, remember to always follow your dreams, twirl with passion, and never forget the magic of a pink tutu!

Yours with love and pirouettes, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
