#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2011-06-20 - Dancing in the Big Apple!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to #PinkTutuBlogNYC! This week I’m feeling extra excited to share my New York adventures with you all. This is post number 837 in my New York City blog series – I can't believe I've written so much! If you haven’t already checked it out, you can see all the posts over on my website, www.pink-tutu.com. Remember to check back in every Monday for a new NYC escapade!

So, where do I even begin? This weekend was utterly magical. I landed in New York on Friday morning, and straight away I felt that familiar thrum of energy. I was so excited to be back in the Big Apple! After a quick check in at the fabulously pink and glamorous boutique hotel on 42nd street, it was off to the subway! Oh how I love riding the subway in NYC – it's such a quick and efficient way to get around, and the crowds and the sound of the trains add to the energy of this fantastic city. I couldn’t resist twirling my way through the station in my beautiful pink tulle tutu, complete with sparkly pink ballet shoes! I always receive so many lovely smiles and compliments when I'm out and about in my tutus. I've made it my mission to get the world wearing pink tutus! After all, what's not to love about them? They’re the ultimate in twirling delight, and they add a dash of colour and whimsy to any outfit!

After settling into my hotel, I did a little shopping spree in the chic boutiques on Madison Avenue. I'm absolutely in love with all the new Spring collections. Floral prints, vibrant colours, and oh so many pretty pastels - I can't help but want them all! My favourite find was a gorgeous pink silk dress with a delicate lace overlay and delicate pink diamante detail – I’m saving it for a special night out at the theater, of course!

Now, let’s get down to business: the highlight of my trip so far! On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a ballet performance at the magnificent Metropolitan Opera House. The ballet was a beautiful and moving interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, performed by the New York City Ballet Company. The dancers were so incredibly graceful, their movements captivating the entire audience! Every pirouette, every jump, was perfection. I have a very busy performing schedule of my own, with lots of upcoming ballet performances to prepare for, but there's nothing like a bit of inspiration from a professional show to boost your confidence and remind you of why you love to dance. I know, sometimes you feel a little lost, a little unsure about the direction your career is heading, but seeing such talented dancers performing their hearts out is just what you need to ignite the flame in your heart!

After the performance, I met up with some fellow dance enthusiasts in the lobby of the Met – it was just lovely to talk shop with other passionate dancers about our love of the art form. It's fantastic to have that kind of community and sense of belonging. The beauty of dance is that it transcends all boundaries - everyone feels that same passion and dedication to the art. I mean, who can resist a little twirling?

Sunday was a busy day filled with more ballet! I took a wonderful master class at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. It was such an inspiring experience to learn from such amazing dancers and choreographers. They were all so incredibly talented and dedicated to their craft, I found it incredibly motivating. And yes, I had to try out some new moves in my favourite pink tutu, of course! The studio space was alive with energy and passion, it was an absolute pleasure to be surrounded by such amazing talent.

This weekend, New York really has proven itself to be the city that never sleeps, especially for a ballerina! I’ve been living the dream, surrounded by culture and fashion, and of course, beautiful ballet performances! Now, I'm off to explore the city a little more!
