Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #847: A Whirlwind Week in the Big Apple!

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Hello darlings! It's Monday again, which means another post for your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving ballerina. This week I'm feeling rather…well…pink with excitement! I spent the past few days swirling through the magical streets of New York City and, let me tell you, it was pure enchantment! From breathtaking ballet shows to whirlwind shopping sprees, every minute was a dazzling adventure!

My week began in the most glamorous way possible - with a stunning performance of Swan Lake at the Metropolitan Opera House. I simply adore Tchaikovsky's music, and the way the dancers brought this classic story to life was breathtaking. There's something so enchanting about the way the swans glide and flow, it practically hypnotises you!

Afterwards, I had to grab a quick bite - a delicate cucumber sandwich and some rather scrumptious pink macarons were the perfect way to unwind after all that beauty. It's amazing how these simple pleasures can make you feel like royalty.

Speaking of royalty, my trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wednesday was like stepping into a historical fairy tale. I spent hours lost in the opulent galleries, gazing at shimmering gowns from bygone eras. Did you know, my dears, that they actually have an exhibit devoted to the history of ballet? I practically pirouetted my way through the exhibits!

That evening, I had the pleasure of witnessing a show-stopping performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the New York City Center. Now, there's a troupe that knows how to create a stir! Their movements were both captivating and energetic, and they absolutely owned the stage with their power and finesse. I was left speechless, as usual!

Speaking of getting things right, my Wednesday wardrobe was pure New York magic! A flowing floral dress with a statement necklace, paired with my favourite pink ballet pumps. I always feel utterly myself when I mix my girly-girl style with classic elegance. After all, a pink tutu and a perfect outfit are the best companions for navigating a city like New York.

Oh, my lovely blog readers, you know I can't spend a day in this fashion capital without venturing into some of the most amazing shops! From the high-end boutiques on Fifth Avenue to the trendy vintage gems in Soho, there are truly so many amazing places to discover.

Did I tell you about my incredible vintage pink tulle skirt find? It's positively ethereal, and will be making many appearances in future blog posts, you can be sure! It felt as though it was destined for me, a little slice of fashion heaven.

My New York adventure wouldn't be complete without a delightful ride on the iconic subway! You see, darling, travelling via the metro adds a touch of excitement and speed to even the most ordinary day. It's a journey through the very heart of the city! Plus, it provides plenty of opportunities to practice my pointe shoes skills while nobody's watching - just me, the rumbling carriages, and a perfectly pink tulle dream!

On Thursday evening, I indulged in a delightful ballet class at the Steps on Broadway studio. It was pure joy, getting to dance and learn from some of the most talented instructors in the city! I must admit, those high kicks had my legs screaming a bit the next day, but oh so worth it!

To celebrate a week filled with swirling magic, I dined at the most elegant French restaurant on Saturday evening, wearing a gorgeous ruby red dress paired with my ballet slippers, of course! You see, it's not only about what you wear, but also the attitude and confidence you exude, even if you're wearing pink ballet shoes. I simply adore making a statement with my outfits, whether I'm stepping into a theatre or a chic Parisian-style restaurant.

And as always, no matter where I am, the ballet never truly leaves my heart. I've been a ballet dancer since I was little, and nothing compares to the graceful expression of your emotions through movement. Even when I'm miles away from the familiar streets of Derby, England, the artistry and beauty of ballet remains my greatest source of inspiration.

I truly hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my fabulous week in the city that never sleeps! I'm already planning my next trip, as there's simply so much more to explore.

Until then, darlings, keep your dreams sparkling and your tutus pink!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
