Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 851 - New York, New York, Monday 2011-09-26: The City That Never Sleepsā€¦and Dances!

Hello lovelies! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, reporting live from the Big Apple, New York City! Can you believe it? I've actually made it to the place I dreamt of visiting ever since I was a little girl! My heart's practically doing the Nutcracker Waltz right now!

I'm writing to you today straight from my little Airbnb apartment. Don't worry, it's all very glamorous (pink wallpaper, sparkly lights, and a tutu rack, naturally!), but the best thing about it is the view. I'm literally just steps away from Central Park. Seriously, you can see the sprawling green lawn, the lush trees, the sparkling fountainsā€¦it's breathtaking. It's like stepping into one of those old-timey musicals, only without the song and dance numbers (yet, anyway!).

This is my very first visit to NYC, and so far, it's already surpassed every expectation I could have ever imagined! From the second I stepped off the plane (and yes, I was sporting my very special pink tutu ā€“ what else would you wear to New York?) I was swept away by the city's energy. It's like a whirlwind of activity and excitement ā€“ street performers, colourful taxis, endless lines of people all rushing about, and most importantly, the constant hum of chatter and music! It's electric!

I'm spending the week taking in everything New York has to offer: from the famous landmarks like the Empire State Building and Times Square, to hidden cafes with the most amazing cupcakes. (And yes, I've indulged in several! They're a part of the New York experience, right?)

Dance Delights!

I came to NYC on a mission, darling! Besides sightseeing, my biggest passion is to find the most wonderful dance performances the city has to offer. After all, New York City is practically the dance capital of the world! Itā€™s absolutely teeming with talented dancers. And luckily, this city never sleeps - and never stops dancing. I can't get enough of watching their magic.

Yesterday, I saw the most exquisite ballet production of "Giselle" at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was absolute perfection ā€“ the music, the choreography, the sheer talent on stage ā€“ it left me speechless! And Iā€™m not talking speechless like, ā€œI forgot to tell you, Iā€™m going to Paris.ā€ No, darling, this was more like, ā€œThis was incredible. Oh my God. Where is that dance teacher? Can I start over? What is this feeling called? Iā€™ll wear pink forever! Wait, is that a cupcake?!ā€

Adventures on the Subway

And the best part? I got to experience New Yorkā€™s iconic subway! I actually love riding the metro ā€“ I feel like I'm in a big, moving art installation, especially the vintage lines! Plus, itā€™s the cheapest and fastest way to get around this ginormous city. And who doesnā€™t love a good journey of exploration through the underground? (Even better with a tutu!)

Of course, I had to capture my subway adventures with a few snapchats! Remember those pink feather boas? Well, they finally came out for their first trip to the USA! My metro photo op turned out rather chic and unexpected, much to the delight of my fellow commuters, all of whom got a very unexpected, sparkling dose of ā€œPink Tutu!ā€ (They didnā€™t mind though. Everyone loves a little tutu!).

Shopping and Sparkle

Now, letā€™s talk about shopping. NYC is a veritable playground for fashionistas! Iā€™ve already lost track of the number of shops I've browsed through ā€“ from chic boutiques in Soho to bustling department stores. Youā€™ll see, darling, New Yorkā€™s shopping isnā€™t just about fashion; itā€™s an experience.

Speaking of shopping, one of my best discoveries this week was this adorable little store called "Tutus for the World!" Right near Central Park. Itā€™s a tiny boutique that overflows with every type of tutu imaginable! Honestly, I could have lived there if my apartment wasn't so charming (and perfectly pink!). I snagged the most stunning pale pink, feather-trimmed tutu (picture a cloud with a hint of shimmering seafoam, dear!), and a whole collection of pretty ballet-themed jewellery. Now, I feel perfectly outfitted for every event in NYC ā€“ the theatre, the opera, the metro! Pink and sparkly, as always.

Tutu Tip of the Day

So, what did I learn this week in NYC? Well, darling, always travel with a spare tutu ā€“ just in case you meet a magical New Yorker, or want to break into an impromptu performance! It never hurts to have an extra outfit, and one that's as fabulous and functional as a tutu. Remember, the city that never sleeps can change at a moment's notice. Just think of how quickly those street performers break into song and dance! You canā€™t afford to be underdressed ā€“ you need to bring your "A" game with a ā€œTā€ ā€“ for Tutu! I know I do!

Now, excuse me, darling! The metro is calling my name! It's time for another ballet class ā€“ they even have special ā€œBroadway Barreā€ sessions ā€“ you simply MUST try them if you ever find yourself here in this magnificent metropolis!

Catch you next week with more from the city that never sleepsā€¦and never stops dancing! Keep twirling!

Much love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
