Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 3rd October, 2011 (Post #852)

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! It's time to catch up on all the magical adventures and fashion-tastic finds that New York City has to offer, and naturally, it wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Blog post without a whole lot of pink!

This week, I found myself whisked away on a flurry of ballet bliss and thrilling escapades that, frankly, just left me completely in awe! And you know what else? It was all made possible by my beloved tutu-powered performances, allowing me to experience New York City in all its glorious pink-hued glory!

Ballet Brilliance at the Metropolitan Opera

Firstly, we simply must talk about my absolute highlight – "Giselle" at the Metropolitan Opera! I don't think my heart has ever beat so fast. This timeless story of love, betrayal, and the power of a ballerina's spirit was simply captivating. Every pirouette, every graceful leap, every poignant gesture… pure magic. The entire experience had me totally spellbound!

And speaking of magic, the Met itself was breathtakingly grand! All those grand chandeliers and opulent staircases - pure fantasy. I had to grab a few sneaky selfies in the lobby to commemorate the occasion! But what truly made my evening were the incredible costumes and makeup. I swear the principal ballerina's pointe shoes glittered with a thousand tiny lights! My fellow tutu enthusiasts, this was ballet heaven!

Exploring New York's Hidden Gems

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a spot of shopping. And trust me, darling, New York City has the best of the best when it comes to fashion! We spent the day wandering through SoHo and Greenwich Village and boy oh boy, did my eyes pop open with excitement.

Soho felt like stepping into a fairytale, with its charming cobbled streets lined with cute little boutiques. Every corner was brimming with inspiration. I was immediately drawn to Intermix, where I scored the most beautiful silk blouse - a glorious shade of dusty pink, naturally. I paired it with my trusty pink tulle tutu for a dash of signature Emma flair!

Next up was Aritzia, my personal favourite for modern, stylish and, you guessed it, totally wearable pieces. It’s just my kind of style - simple yet sophisticated, chic yet comfortable. This trip I found a gorgeous emerald green silk skirt that's perfect for autumn. It just feels so fabulous paired with a fitted black top and a pair of delicate gold earrings!

But you know what else I adore? Greenwich Village with its trendy boutiques and vintage treasures. This area was pure delight for my fashionista heart! There, nestled amongst the hipsters and the cafes, I stumbled upon "The Blue Door" - a magical antique shop that sells all things lovely. It was crammed full of vintage costume jewellery, feather boas, and even some old theatrical dresses. They were absolute treasures. And guess what I snagged? A gorgeous feathered headpiece, perfect for my next tutu-fied ensemble.

Broadway Bound, with a Side of Subway Fun

But it wouldn't be a New York trip without a night at Broadway, would it? I chose the “Lion King" – everyone says it’s an absolute must, and it really did not disappoint. It's spectacular in a big, loud way with fantastic costumes and breathtaking scenery. Even the seats were amazing, giving me an intimate view of the whole stage! It's one thing to see a play on TV but witnessing it live is a whole other world! I highly recommend it for all you fellow theatre lovers!

One of the most fun parts of travelling is the unexpected discoveries you stumble upon, and New York always offers surprises! On the way to the Met, I found myself on the subway, and I happened to catch a glimpse of a street performer who had caught the attention of the entire carriage! She was dressed in an iridescent costume and her dance was beautiful! It felt like I was caught up in a fleeting glimpse of a Broadway musical in action! It truly reinforced how amazing New York is!

Tutu Talk: Embracing the Pink Revolution

So, darling, how do you find your inner pink tutu queen? Here's my little motto:

  • Believe in the magic of a pink tutu: They’re more than just garments - they're emblems of fun, joy and individuality!
  • Spread the pink-tutu love! Every girl deserves to feel fabulous and free in a pink tutu! I encourage you all to break out those twirls and embrace your inner ballerina!
  • Always wear pink with confidence: Because a dash of pink never hurts, especially with a hint of tutu!
Looking Ahead

As the sun begins to set on this incredible adventure in New York, my mind is already buzzing with ideas for next week's escapades! I have a feeling we might be venturing to a delightful vintage market – with fingers crossed for some more incredible tutu-tastic treasures. I’m thinking vintage hats, feathers, sequins and everything sparkly. Oh! And if I’m feeling bold I might even pick up a fabulous feather boa for extra dramatic effect.

Until next Monday darlings, remember to twirl with joy, wear pink with confidence and keep the spirit of a ballerina in your heart!

P.S. I’d love to hear all your thoughts on my NYC adventure so far. What are your favorite pink-hued things? What magical destinations would you recommend to a pink tutu queen? Leave a comment below and let's share our love for all things pink, fun, and fantastic!
