Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Edition - Post 863 - Monday 19th December 2011

Hello darlings!

It's Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing travel blogger, writing to you live from the concrete jungle, aka New York City! I’m still buzzing from an incredible weekend, full of fabulous shows, fantastic shopping, and a whole lot of twirling! It's truly a dream come true to be dancing my way around this city, and sharing the magic with you.

As you know, my pink tutu and I are on a mission: to bring a little bit of ballet and sparkle to every corner of the world! And believe me, NYC was no exception.

This week, we embarked on a delightful journey through the heart of the Big Apple, beginning with the absolute must-do experience: a glorious performance at the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. I was completely swept away by the beauty and precision of the dancers. The energy in the theatre was palpable, and I couldn't help but be mesmerised by the elegant moves and captivating costumes. It’s almost as though the dancers themselves had stepped right out of a fairy tale!

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a little bit of shopping therapy. Now, don't get me wrong, I’m a girl who can find a treasure in a second-hand shop, but there's something undeniably special about wandering the streets of Manhattan and discovering hidden boutiques overflowing with chic delights.

My trusty pink tutu and I made our way to the SoHo neighbourhood, where I lost myself amongst a dizzying array of independent shops bursting with fashion gems. Imagine, if you will, an afternoon spent exploring vintage stores brimming with Parisian elegance, delving into quaint little hat shops, and discovering unique jewellery pieces that whispered of bygone eras. Oh, the joy!

And who could resist a visit to Fifth Avenue? I mean, what's a fashion enthusiast like myself to do in the city that never sleeps without soaking up the atmosphere of the iconic department stores? You simply cannot talk about fashion in New York without mentioning the legendary Bergdorf Goodman. There’s a magic in that place that just seems to make every item glitter just a little bit brighter. They truly have an entire world of fashion wrapped up in one shop, from elegant dresses to bold statement jewelry – it's simply impossible to resist!

Ballet Classes, You Say?

The wonderful thing about this city is that it never lets you forget what it's about: passion. It’s evident in everything you do, everywhere you go, even in its love for ballet!

Being in New York, surrounded by dancers, studios, and classes, inspired me to step into the barre and twirl right alongside the locals. I booked myself in at the world-renowned Steps on Broadway. Talk about pushing myself out of my comfort zone! There was an abundance of talented dancers, and I was a little nervous, but my tutu seemed to encourage me with every spin. And it really was such a special experience – even the most accomplished ballerinas were always smiling and offering a kind word or encouragement. The energy was simply electric.

To be surrounded by so much dedication, passion, and joy truly is a privilege. I can't wait to go back for another class. After all, it's always a good time to polish up those skills and get that pirouette perfect!

Fueling My Twirls

There is just so much to discover and explore in New York. Even just the simple joy of a stroll around the park in my pink tutu can be an adventure!

So much excitement and adventure can work up a mighty appetite! And New York is certainly no exception when it comes to culinary delights. On a whim, I stopped in at a tiny, quaint cafe in Greenwich Village for a delicious lunch. Imagine fresh sandwiches overflowing with flavours and coffee that truly wakes you up! Oh, and the cake… it was almost too pretty to eat.

There's just so much to explore in New York - it truly is a foodie's paradise!

A Few Words on Fashion

While New York City boasts some of the most dazzling, cutting-edge fashion in the world, you can be as unique and colourful as you choose. That’s one of the many wonderful things about it! Every day in the city seems to offer an opportunity for self-expression. And, when it comes to fashion, my dear friends, my pink tutu reigns supreme!

A quick glance around New York City might convince you that all of the chic, stylish outfits out there are only achievable with a hefty budget. But nothing could be further from the truth. You can embrace your unique style without breaking the bank! In my view, you can't have too much tulle and, after all, that pink tutu never fails to put a smile on my face, even in the heart of Manhattan.

You know, some people have their favourite little black dress. I have my favourite pink tutu. Every trip I take with my beloved tutu brings me a chance to make more fashion friends and share the joy and the glamour that comes from wearing something that truly brings me joy.

Travelling Around The Big Apple

And speaking of getting around… Let’s face it, even with my signature twirls, it can be a bit tricky to keep up with the fast-paced life of New York City. The solution? Well, of course it’s the subway! The hustle and bustle of the city makes navigating the metro a whirlwind in itself. It's fast, efficient, and lets me feel a little like I’m part of a giant ballet routine!

I do find myself sneaking in a quick pirouette from time to time on the subway platform, to be honest. But who doesn't need a little dance in their lives, eh?

This trip to New York City was packed full of memorable moments and a whole lot of dancing – both in my ballerina class and with the incredible New York City Ballet. And I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Don’t Forget to Dream!

Remember, whether you're in New York City, or your local town, make sure you bring your dreams with you. And let them come alive in pink tutus and colourful dreams!

I’m back home in England now, but you can be sure that this pink tutu is already planning my next adventure!

Until next week, keep those tutus twirling and keep your eyes on my blog at www.pink-tutu.com!

Love, Emma
