#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2011-12-26 - New York City Dreaming

Hello darling readers, it’s Emma here, back in New York City after another fabulous weekend of performances and adventure. As the twinkle lights of the festive season continue to shimmer across the city, my heart flutters with the joy of it all. I mean, Christmas has just happened and we’re on to the new year in a heartbeat. And as the new year’s promise hangs in the crisp New York air, there is simply no better place to be than in this magical city!

Today’s post, number 864 for those of you who’ve been following my journey with #PinkTutuBlogNYC, takes you back with me to some of the things that made my last weekend here so wonderfully “pink” – that’s my codeword for spectacular, naturally. You see, nothing’s just “nice” when you're Emma in the big apple! Everything is pink, my friends, everything!

A Weekend of Pink:

Firstly, what better way to kick-start my weekend than with a dazzling show in the heart of the city? This weekend saw a show-stopping performance at Lincoln Center's Metropolitan Opera. This season, the Met is ablaze with a stellar cast, and they absolutely outdid themselves on Friday evening with "La Traviata." Oh my, what an enchanting experience! The drama, the costumes, the voices! Let’s just say I was whisked away to 19th century Paris and swept off my feet. Just what my #PinkTutu needs, you know? A little romance with a dose of Parisian style.

A Dance-Lover’s Delight:

This Saturday morning, I took a whirlwind trip to the Lower East Side – always buzzing with an alternative vibe and a distinct Bohemian air - where I took a fabulous ballet class. You’d never guess the incredible space where we twirled and danced. Tucked away in the depths of this hipster hangout was “Dance Church,” a joyful fusion of free-flowing dance, community, and self-expression! Let’s just say I certainly felt “empowered,” in more ways than one. And, of course, I was wearing a magnificent pink tutu!

Sunday Funday and Pink Perfection:

Sundays are for exploration and, well, a whole lot of retail therapy. It was just what my #PinkTutu needed - a fabulous foray into a world of silk scarves, cashmere jumpers, and shoes that simply scream “I'm fabulous and I'm here for it”. You wouldn’t believe the treasure trove I discovered in a quaint little shop on Bleecker Street, a fashion boutique called "Chic on a Dime," just bursting with incredible deals and finds. I mean, how can you resist a stunning vintage dress or a beautifully crafted pair of statement earrings? Let’s just say my #PinkTutu was happy. It really is all about the feeling of being truly #pink!

Taking in the City’s Festive Charm

I wandered through Union Square Market, with its festive stalls, where I felt transported back to the Christmas markets in my hometown of Derby – a beautiful and slightly mischievous town in Derbyshire, England, that’s full of charm and lovely cobbled streets. You know how much I love a bit of that traditional magic. The twinkle lights of Union Square just screamed ‘Christmas' – the spirit of the festive season was in the air. There were festive foods galore - gourmet cheese stalls, glistening candied nuts, and, of course, my favourite hot chocolate. I’d grabbed a steaming cup that warmed me to the core while watching the vibrant cityscape go by.

A Little Parisian Flair

And you know what they say - when in New York City, do as the French do. I had to visit the French outpost on Fifth Avenue, which is one of my favourite spots for Parisian style - a lovely little nook with a delightful collection of classic french wear that is timeless and chic. And who doesn't adore French fashion, right? I treated myself to the perfect little cashmere cardigan and the softest scarf – the kind that you simply have to cuddle and love - the sort of indulgence I allow myself occasionally to make sure my #PinkTutu remains as happy as can be!

A Pink Moment of Reflection

Evenings are a beautiful thing in this vibrant metropolis. Walking the streets with a gentle nip in the air – it reminds me so much of walking home from ballet classes in Derbyshire, especially when the snow fell, although snow isn't really the norm here in New York City. As I admired the towering skyscrapers bathed in the glow of evening light, it reminded me why I call New York my favourite "second home”.

And, of course, no adventure is complete without a delicious little dinner treat. I opted for a fantastically romantic Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village that just screamed ' New York City magic' to me! It had all the makings of a delightful evening. You can find the little, charming spot called “Ristorante” – not to be confused with “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.” Let’s just say, this one felt more “Pink Tutu,” don't you think? I can always get a bit adventurous with the food choices! But this weekend was all about the traditional dishes, cooked to perfection and accompanied with a chilled bottle of my favourite Italian red, of course. It was the perfect ending to my fabulous weekend!

On a Personal Note...

Before I sign off for this week, I wanted to share a personal little bit of me with you – a side to Emma, beyond the ballet shows, the fabulous tutus and the glitter. Sometimes, even I feel the need to be inspired by the brilliance of others. And this past week, I have been reflecting on some words that truly resonate with me - "Keep dancing, keep twirling, keep sparkling!” The world needs more glitter, more twirls, and more love - in other words, more "pink" in our lives.

Remember, darling, it's about finding what makes you shine your brightest and what truly makes your heart happy. It's about discovering what brings your inner #PinkTutu to life.

See you next Monday, #PinkTutuBlogNYC. Stay tuned, you never know what amazing pink adventures are waiting for us next. Have a truly lovely week.

With love, Emma
