Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 884 - Twirling Through the Big Apple
Hello, my lovely tutu-loving friends! 🩰 It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in the dazzling city that never sleeps: New York City! And yes, you guessed it, I brought my pink tutu along for the ride! 😄
This week's post is bursting with glitter and Broadway dreams, so settle in with a cup of tea and a generous helping of sugar.
This particular Monday marks the 14th of May, 2012, a day that saw me bounding through New York City in a dizzying whirl of pink tulle and Parisian charm. It was truly a magical day, filled with the kind of fun and excitement that only this city can offer.
Funding My Dreams Through Twirls and Pirouettes
Let's talk funding! My trip to New York, like all of my fabulous adventures, was fuelled by my love of dancing and performance. I've been busy in recent months, performing in a string of beautiful ballets, and this week's trip was a little treat for myself, earned through the sweat and dedication of every single rehearsal.
This is how I make my dream of being a professional ballerina and a travelling blogger a reality – one pirouette, one post at a time. And speaking of pirouettes, how could I come to New York and not go see some of the world-renowned ballet performances happening here?
A Dance With Destiny at the Lincoln Center
On Saturday evening, I found myself at the majestic Lincoln Center, the heart of the city's cultural scene. The energy buzzing around the building was electric. The city felt like a grand theatre stage, waiting for the curtain to rise on my own personal adventure.
As I floated through the building in my trusty pink tutu (it certainly garnered some admiring glances!) and made my way to my seat, my excitement was building to a crescendo. That evening, I was fortunate enough to witness New York City Ballet’s performance of “Symphony in C” – an absolute masterpiece!
The music, the choreography, the sheer talent on stage - it was all breathtaking! The ballerina’s grace and athleticism, the conductor's vibrant passion, the elegance of the entire performance – it was all so utterly captivating. For a couple of hours, I was completely lost in the world of classical dance. I think every dancer secretly wishes to perform in a place like the Lincoln Center, to feel the thrill of an audience applauding, the light from the stage warming their face. For those few hours, I could almost imagine it was my own grand finale!
Exploring New York’s Secret Gems
But my journey didn't just involve ballet. New York City is an overwhelming sensory feast, and I made sure to soak up every moment!
Sunday was all about exploration. I hopped onto the subway, the thrumming energy of the city pulsating around me, and ventured to the vibrant Greenwich Village neighbourhood. My eyes were drawn to every street corner, the quaint cobbled streets overflowing with history and character.
After stopping for a quick brunch at a delightful cafe (the blueberry pancakes were simply divine! 🥞), I headed towards the Washington Square Park. I found a quiet spot on a bench, bathed in the warm spring sunshine, and spent the afternoon lost in the magic of the park. This is what New York is all about: bustling energy colliding with pockets of quiet serenity. It’s like two sides of a beautiful coin.
A Shopping Spree and a Fashion Fiesta
But it wouldn’t be a trip to New York without a little retail therapy, now, would it? 😊
The energy was electric in the air, every window seemed to be whispering, “Come shop, dear Emma.” And so I did, taking a tour of SoHo with my shopping bags in hand. The boutiques were bursting with colour and style. Oh, the possibilities! My inner fashionista went wild!
I couldn't leave without grabbing some stylish accessories and a beautiful, flowy summer dress – the perfect combination of practicality and Parisian chic, for all my adventures to come!
The Iconic Times Square: Lights, Camera, Action!
As evening fell, I took a stroll through Times Square, its dazzling neon lights reflecting off my pink tutu and painting the city in vibrant colours. It felt like stepping into a fantastical wonderland! There’s something almost hypnotic about being caught in the heart of such an intense spectacle. I was completely entranced.
It felt a bit like stepping into one of the glamorous Broadway shows that draw millions to New York each year. And speaking of shows…
An Evening of Broadway Magic: “Wicked”
How could I possibly leave New York without experiencing the iconic brilliance of a Broadway show? For my last night, I took a seat at the Gershwin Theatre for "Wicked.” This magnificent musical is about a green girl and a popular, pretty, girl who make a daring stand against a ruthless, manipulative villain and forge a special friendship. It's about female friendship, self-acceptance, and daring to be different. I thought the storytelling was particularly brilliant.
Watching the stunning costumes, vibrant music, and dynamic performances unfold on stage, I was reminded of the incredible talent and artistry that Broadway productions possess.
As I walked back to my hotel that night, a little tired, but so happy and satisfied, it was the ending of an extraordinary weekend in the Big Apple.
My Pink Tutu Wish
I’m still trying to make the dream a reality of spreading the pink tutu love worldwide. So here's a plea to everyone who loves fashion and embraces their unique style: Join me in embracing the joy and whimsy of a pink tutu.
Let's turn New York, and indeed the world, into a giant pink tutu parade! 😄💖
A Few Thoughts to Leave You With...

So, until next Monday, dear tutu friends, stay inspired, stay fabulous, and never lose sight of the beautiful dancer within you! ✨
