#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2012-05-21: Dancing Dreams in the Big Apple
Hello my gorgeous darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing, Broadway-loving, travel enthusiast, Emma, and welcome to another fabulous #PinkTutuBlogNYC post. Today we’re on post number 885 – can you believe it? Every Monday, rain or shine, I’m here to bring you a fresh dose of sparkle, style, and the joy of dancing in the incredible city of New York!
As many of you know, my passion for ballet started in Derbyshire, England, and now it’s taking me all over the world! I fund my travels by performing in the most amazing shows. This week, I'm twirling through the concrete jungle, and believe me, there's never a dull moment!
From The Big Apple To The Subway Lines:
Last week, I was gliding through the streets of London in a gorgeous, cherry blossom pink tutu that would have made even the Queen herself blush. Now, I’m on the vibrant streets of New York, where the air is filled with the melody of taxi horns, and the sidewalks are overflowing with creativity and fashion.
It's so wonderful to be back in New York. There's nothing quite like the buzz of this city. I adore how every street corner holds a unique story, a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Just stepping out of my hotel this morning, I found myself lost in a sea of brightly coloured storefronts, vintage boutiques, and charming coffee shops. And let’s not forget the iconic yellow taxis!
One of my favourite things to do here is hop on the metro. It's like a whirlwind of human energy – everyone's going somewhere, bustling about with their own stories to tell. Sometimes, you can spot dancers going to a rehearsal, Broadway stars in their everyday attire, and a kaleidoscope of people all crammed together, living and loving life in the big city. And you know what, I'm one of them, just a pink-tutu wearing, big-eyed girl ready to make a statement.
New York Style and the Art of Ballet:
Of course, when it comes to New York, it's all about the style! This city is a playground for fashionistas and trendsetters, and you can see it in every street corner, in every window display. And how could I resist diving into this magical world? This weekend, I hit the shops – Saks Fifth Avenue was calling my name – and found the most glorious teal-blue satin top that perfectly complements my current wardrobe. And of course, I couldn't resist treating myself to a new pink tulle scarf! It's a soft, dreamy piece, just perfect for adding a touch of femininity to any outfit. Now, tell me – who says you can't rock a pink tutu on the streets of New York?
Of course, my main reason for being here in this fashion capital is my passion for ballet. New York has some of the most legendary ballet companies in the world, and it's a constant thrill to immerse myself in this incredible world.
This past Friday, I saw "The Nutcracker" at the New York City Ballet. Oh my, it was breathtaking. The costumes, the music, the dancers! I sat spellbound in the dark theatre, swept away by the story. As the final note faded, I felt as if I was on a magical journey back to childhood, filled with dreams of sugarplum fairies and dancing snowflakes. It was simply enchanting.
I'm always in awe of the raw talent and dedication of these amazing dancers. And guess what? This week, I’m taking a class at the famous Steps on Broadway! I just know it's going to be an amazing experience. The chance to learn from some of the best, right here in the heart of Broadway, is truly incredible. I'm already practicing my leaps and twirls, hoping to bring back some New York magic to my performance skills!
The Pink Tutu Movement
And now, to my beloved readers, my mission is always on your mind, just like mine – spreading the pink tutu movement! I believe that every single person, no matter their shape, size or style, has the potential to sparkle in a pink tutu. Imagine it, ladies: pink tutus in offices, on park benches, at picnics in Central Park – just picture it!
Now, I know, you’re probably thinking, “Emma, wearing a pink tutu in New York City – aren't you afraid of people thinking you're crazy?” Well, yes and no. To be honest, I don't really care what people think. I love wearing my tutus, and I believe they have the power to make the world a brighter place, a place where we embrace our creativity, our individuality, and yes, our love of dancing!
If there's one thing New York taught me, it's that individuality is celebrated here, more so than in most places I’ve been. The diversity of the people and the art that explodes out of this city inspires me. It makes me want to push boundaries, embrace my creativity, and yes, to twirl my way through the city, even if that means in a big, pink, fluffy tutu!
I encourage all of you to try something new this week, something that brings joy to your life. You never know what incredible experiences you might discover.
Until next Monday, my darlings,
With love,
Emma
