Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post 900: New York City, 3rd September 2012 - Dancing in the Big Apple!
Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! Welcome back to my weekly New York City escapades, fresh from the heart of Manhattan, where dreams are spun as sparkly as a thousand twirling tutus. This week's adventures have been nothing short of phenomenal, filled with enchanting performances, delightful shopping sprees, and of course, endless swirls in the glorious streets of the Big Apple!
Today, we're kicking things off with a little chat about my absolute favourite mode of transport β the glorious, glamorous subway! Here in New York, the metro is more than just a means of getting around; it's a journey, a fleeting performance with its own unique soundtrack and stage, the hustle and bustle, the kaleidoscope of faces, and that inimitable New York energy buzzing through the air.
The Underground World, I am forever in awe of the intricate network beneath the city. Each station has a unique charm β the architecture, the signs, the occasional impromptu busker strumming a melancholic tune, the vibrant mosaics that adorn the walls. I absolutely love people-watching too - everyone's story unfolding in their rush hour routines! And did I mention the delicious waft of pizza from street vendors that occasionally fills the carriage, tempting your taste buds like a siren's song?
Speaking of pizza, can we talk about food in this amazing city?! New York is a foodie paradise. The smells, the flavours, the diversity of options - there's something for everyone here. This weekend, I indulged in a perfectly fluffy bagel with lashings of cream cheese. I also discovered a tiny hole-in-the-wall bakery that serves the most delicious strawberry croissants, all bathed in a warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked goods. Oh, the delights of New York!
Oh, I also had the absolute pleasure of taking in a performance at Lincoln Center! The stage was alive with the grace of ballerinas dancing to the mesmerising notes of Tchaikovsky. Their every move was a breathtaking masterpiece of form and artistry, a graceful choreography that resonated with every cell in my body. As always, the feeling of being part of such an elegant experience left me speechless.
The energy in Lincoln Center was just electric. It was one of those moments that truly captures the magic of this city. After the performance, I strolled through the streets, letting the sounds of the city serenade me. It's incredible how in such a concrete jungle, one can still feel so connected to the essence of the human spirit. The city pulsates with a certain magic, especially when bathed in the glow of twinkling city lights!
Another favourite pastime here in New York has got to be shopping! From high-end department stores like Bergdorf Goodman with its impossibly chic windows to the charming vintage shops nestled down tiny side streets, each shopping expedition offers an endless array of treasures waiting to be discovered. I found myself lost in the world of silks and lace, browsing the latest trends at a cute little boutique on Broadway. I stumbled across a gorgeous floral print top that was practically calling my name, so of course, I had to indulge in a little retail therapy.
And let's not forget the legendary flea markets of New York! The vintage finds, the unique handmade crafts, the conversations with local artists, the buzzing atmosphere - it's an adventure in itself. On my latest visit, I picked up a beautiful vintage pink tutu (you know me and my tutu obsession!) and a quirky hand-painted necklace with a tiny ballerina charm that now hangs proudly on my necklace collection. It's little gems like this that make each New York trip so unique and special!
Of course, every week wouldn't be complete without a visit to one of my beloved ballet classes! Today's class was a joy - full of vibrant energy and inspiring fellow dancers who push me to be better with each pirouette. The studio was alive with the sound of our shoes tapping and the laughter that bubbles up when we get the choreography right. Nothing quite beats the feeling of that graceful release of tension and self-expression at the barre. Itβs truly a moment of pure bliss!
But it's not all about ballet classes and performances for this little ballerina! A few days ago, I ventured down to the East Village. This funky neighborhood is an explosion of art, music, and street culture - I wandered around, taking in the eclectic boutiques, watching street performers showcase their talents, and soaking up the unique atmosphere.
This past Saturday evening, I stumbled upon an open-air performance at Washington Square Park. Imagine a stage lit by twinkling fairy lights, performers in colourful costumes weaving magical stories with their movements. It was a kaleidoscope of beauty and joy, a reminder that magic exists everywhere if we just look closely enough. I even found a sweet little pink tutu hat to add to my collection, it was the perfect way to round off the day.
Speaking of finding magic, remember the vision I shared with you in my very first Pink Tutu Blog? It's a dream to inspire a world filled with twirling, joyous pink tutus. Seeing a little girl spinning and giggling in her tutu in the middle of New York's bustling city fills me with pure delight.
You see, when I put on a tutu, I step into a world of my own β a world where my imagination takes flight and I embrace my own unique sense of style. I encourage you to find that joy, to find the power that lies within to express yourself freely, even if it means donning a whimsical pink tutu and pirouetting with all your heart!
That's all for this week, my darlings. As always, keep shining, keep dreaming, and most importantly, keep twirling! Until next Monday, stay safe and filled with happy memories.
Love,
Emma xx
