#PinkTutuBlogNYC: Monday, 2013-01-07 - She Danced in New York City! (Post 918)

Good morning darlings! It's a brand new week, the first of January 2013, and guess who's back in the Big Apple? That's right, it's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, and I'm so excited to share all the fab happenings from my New York adventure!

Last week was pure magic, filled with stunning shows, incredible shopping finds, and of course, the sheer thrill of dancing in the concrete jungle. Now, if you haven't checked out my #PinkTutuNewYork hashtag on Instagram yet, then you're missing out on a whole world of twirls and sequins!

My mission this trip is clear: spread the joy of pink tutus far and wide, and there's no better place to do that than in the dazzling city that never sleeps. So, let's dive into all the fantastic moments that unfolded during this unforgettable week...

Friday: Fashion and Fancies

The moment I arrived in NYC, it was straight to my favourite haven - Bloomingdale's! I've always said, you can't visit New York without a trip to the big department stores, and this one's got it all. From the chicest winter coats (think luxurious cashmere and sleek leather, all in the most gorgeous colours!), to dazzling accessories, and, of course, the most amazing lingerie selection, it was an absolute treat for my senses. My eyes widened in particular at the shoe department. Oh, the shoes! Ballet flats in every colour imaginable, towering heels that practically danced on their own, and boots that made my heart sing - there's no better place to lose yourself in the world of footwear than right here. And guess what? I snagged the most gorgeous pair of crimson pumps, just the thing to add a splash of colour to my otherwise monochrome wardrobe!

Later that evening, it was time for a truly unique experience – an evening with the legendary American Ballet Theatre at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. This is no ordinary ballet company; they're absolute masters of the form, known for their impeccable technique and sheer artistry. The performance was utterly breathtaking - the dancers glided effortlessly, their bodies expressing every emotion with remarkable power. As the final curtain fell, I couldn't help but feel deeply moved. These dancers were living proof that dreams really can come true. And as for me? I couldn't help but feel a bit of my own stage fright rising. Maybe this whole ballerina thing isn't just a pipe dream, after all…

Saturday: Streets of Style and Subway Stops

Saturdays in New York are an electric mix of bustling crowds and vibrant energy. It's the perfect day to lose yourself in the city's iconic fashion scene. I began with a trip to the Meatpacking District to witness the fashion-forward crowds. Think stylish designers, chic cafes, and even an antique market! Of course, I couldn't resist a detour into one of the independent boutiques to try on some whimsical accessories – imagine delicate butterfly brooches and feather boas that added a touch of whimsy to any outfit.

Lunch time? I grabbed a hotdog at a street stall, feeling the true spirit of New York in the crispy fries and mustard that painted my fingers bright yellow! You haven't truly experienced New York until you've eaten a hotdog on the streets. It’s a taste of New York that you simply cannot miss.

After lunch, I ventured down to the SoHo neighbourhood for more shopping galore. My heart skipped a beat when I discovered a beautiful vintage store with an exquisite selection of retro-inspired dresses. After a bit of hunting, I snagged a gorgeous vintage dress, perfect for the spring ballet season. It's a light blue and ivory creation, with layers of chiffon that swish beautifully as I dance – I just can't wait to show it off at my next performance.

Of course, no exploration of New York is complete without a journey on the metro. Let me tell you, these subway stations are works of art in themselves, filled with interesting architecture and the hustle and bustle of city life. My fellow passengers were just as vibrant as the cityscape itself – artists, bankers, students, everyone rushing from one destination to the next. It's fascinating to watch life unfold on the platforms, where stories and dreams intersect with the click-clack of trains. And let's not forget the endless opportunities to practice my twirls while waiting for my train!

Sunday: Sunday Stroll and Serene Sounds

Sundays are for slowing down and savouring the beauty of New York City. I decided to escape the concrete jungle and find some serenity in Central Park. I was captivated by the quiet charm of the pond, with its graceful ducks and playful squirrels. There were even some musicians playing their heart out for the curious audience!

My evening was dedicated to an evening of soulful music at the Blue Note Jazz Club. It was a true New York experience, surrounded by knowledgeable jazz enthusiasts. I savoured each soulful note and the captivating improvisations as the talented musicians effortlessly wove together sounds that filled the room with pure joy. It's not every day you experience jazz of this calibre, and it definitely left me with a feeling of pure bliss.

Monday: Back to My Ballet Roots

And here we are, back in the swing of things. The Monday morning blues can only be soothed by the magic of ballet, so today I'm heading back to the Baryshnikov Arts Center for another exhilarating session of barre work, stretches, and pirouettes. I love how my time in New York is always a balance between city life and my ballet passion.

My Pink Tutu Message of the Week:

As I reflect on my trip, I'm reminded that New York City isn't just a destination - it's a state of mind. It's about pushing boundaries, chasing dreams, and always striving to be the best version of yourself.

And so, as I step back onto the subway, a swirling pink tutu my statement piece, I feel a renewed sense of purpose. My journey to spread the joy of pink tutus is far from over, and I know there's so much more magic to be found, not just in New York, but everywhere.

Don't forget, you can follow my daily adventures on Instagram with the hashtag #PinkTutuNewYork, and be sure to check in with me here every Monday for a fresh dose of pink-tutu-filled fun!

Until next week, darlings!

Love,

Emma
