This week, New York City has truly lived up to its nickname. I've been spinning, twirling, and leaping through the streets, embracing the city's vibrant energy. Let me tell you, even the concrete jungle feels magical when you're sporting a pink tutu. 💕
From the Met to Broadway, a whirlwind of magic:
The first thing I did upon arriving was to head straight for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This glorious temple of art is simply breathtaking, especially when you're twirling in a pink tutu. You could imagine my joy when I stumbled upon an exhibition of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings! The light, the colours, the artistry – everything spoke to the ballerina in me.
Then it was off to see "Once", a heart-wrenching love story that stole my heart (and brought a few tears to my eyes). Watching such raw talent unfold on stage, it makes you realise how powerful the magic of theatre can truly be.
Shopping til I drop:
No trip to New York is complete without indulging in a little retail therapy! I absolutely adore the way the city transforms itself into a magnificent catwalk, with shop windows that practically beg to be photographed. Of course, I couldn't resist a little spree of my own. 🛍️
My favourite find was a breathtaking vintage beaded bag from a quaint boutique on Bleecker Street. The owner, a charming lady with a vintage flair, said the bag used to be owned by a famous actress, adding to its aura. This was a truly special treasure. I think it’ll look spectacular with my favourite tutu for my next show.
The Metro Magic:
One thing I find incredibly captivating about New York is its subway system. A vibrant, sprawling labyrinth that transports millions daily, each journey a whirlwind of stories unfolding in a bustling human orchestra. It's such an interesting cross-section of society, and of course, it’s always a great opportunity to catch some style inspiration!
The subway is my preferred method of transport, a quick and convenient way to navigate the city and it truly immerses you in its pulse. As I glide through the tunnels, a pink tutu trailing behind me, I'm sure I'm causing quite a stir – spreading the joy of ballet one tutu at a time!
Backstage adventures and tutu tales:
My time in New York is always an enriching experience, and I was fortunate to get backstage access at the beautiful City Center Ballet! Getting a peek into the lives of dancers who dedicate their lives to art, those behind the magic, is such a humbling experience.
The atmosphere buzzes with anticipation before a performance, an orchestra tuning its instruments, the dancers preparing their bodies with grace and precision, the backstage crew making sure every detail is flawless. The passion radiating from these individuals is simply contagious! I was reminded that a ballet performance is so much more than just the dancing; it's the culmination of countless hours of hard work, artistry, and dedication from countless individuals.
And of course, what would a visit to the City Center be without a dazzling performance? The company’s choreography, exquisite costuming, and effortless elegance made the performance unforgettable. Each pirouette, each graceful leap, resonated with me. It made my heart soar! Watching them, I was reminded of my own journey and the importance of believing in my dreams.
