Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 932 - New York City Ballet Dreams!

Monday, 15th April 2013

Good morning, lovelies! It's Emma here, back with another dose of New York City magic from my favourite spot in the world - the pinkest corner of the Big Apple. It's a brand new week, which means a brand new adventure for your favourite tutu-loving blogger! And what a week it is, with my dance card overflowing with fabulous happenings. But first, a little trip down memory lane, or rather, down the cobblestone streets of Greenwich Village.

This past weekend, I had the utter joy of being a proper tourist! Remember how I said that, as much as I adore NYC, it can be easy to get caught up in the daily grind of ballet rehearsals, performances and the occasional Broadway show? Well, this time, I decided to fully embrace the "out of towner" role and dive into all that New York has to offer - without any tutus on.

That's right, I went for a stroll through Central Park. I felt a little bit like a scene straight out of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" as I made my way past the iconic Bow Bridge and had my photograph taken with a caricature artist in Times Square. Even though my usual look involves a sprinkle of pink tulle, for this particular adventure, I opted for a classic vintage dress, a scarlet handbag and a pair of chic black pumps - just the right touch of New York sophistication.

I've said it before, but it's truly worth repeating: New York is the city that never sleeps. Even on a Sunday morning, the streets were bustling with activity, with everything from musicians busking in the street to hotdog vendors doing their thing. The energy is contagious, and it made me feel alive.

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without some serious shopping, so naturally, I made a beeline for Bloomingdale's - a personal favourite of mine, because they truly know how to pamper a pink tutu-wearing ballerina. Let's just say I left with a couple of new outfits to add to my growing collection. You'll have to wait until my next blog post for the full reveal!

Speaking of things pink, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Blog post without a touch of "pink-tastic" fun. This week, my mission is to spread the joy of pink tutus to all corners of the Big Apple! I've got my sights set on Central Park, Broadway, and the iconic Staten Island Ferry. And you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be posting photos of my pink tutu escapades on my Instagram, @EmmaPinkTutu, so be sure to follow along for all the fun.

And now, a peek at the week aheadā€¦

Monday

Itā€™s back to my favourite city, London! And my trip home wonā€™t be boring! Iā€™m jetting back to visit family, of course, and, my favourite dance class, so you know Iā€™ll be getting a head-start on learning a few new ballet moves! Oh, and don't forget, the blog will be back with another Monday post. I've got some behind-the-scenes photos from my weekend trip and a peek at the stunning new pink tutu I bought, just waiting to share with you!

Tuesday

It's time to get back into ballet routine with an early morning session! After that, it's back to the rehearsal room and putting in the work so Iā€™m ready to perform my very best this week. And I might even get some time for a little bit of shopping (a girl's gotta treat herself)!

Wednesday

My week's performances start with a big one: "Swan Lake." The show will be a mix of classic choreography and modern twists. The sheer amount of pink in this performance is stunning ā€“ you'll see, the costume designers did a great job of embodying that ā€œballetā€ in ā€œballerina!ā€ Be sure to follow my Instagram for the evening's look.

Thursday

The "Swan Lake" performances continue, and today I'm also catching a Broadway show! "Matilda" is an absolute must-see and I'm really looking forward to getting swept away by its magical story and the incredible performances.

Friday

This is one of those rare Fridays when I donā€™t have a performance! Thatā€™s going to be perfect for me. After a long week of performances, Iā€™m heading out to explore the shops on Fifth Avenue and make the most of the relaxing afternoon to prepare for the ā€œSwan Lakeā€ performance tomorrow. The shops on Fifth Avenue are so fabulous - a complete feast for my eyes and my shopping-crazed self.

Saturday

The "Swan Lake" performance is the highlight of the day. Tonight I will have time to decompress by watching one of my favourite shows: "Saturday Night Live" at The Dakota apartment building - one of New York City's most exclusive buildings (and not bad for a ā€œPink Tutuā€ fan like myself)!

Sunday

Itā€™s finally the end of a great week. Whatā€™s on the agenda for a lazy Sunday? I plan to relax in Central Park and work on my blog, making sure my lovely readers are all up-to-date with my latest adventures and fashion finds! It's also the perfect time to sketch out my next pink tutu adventure - a special one to kick off spring.

But, back to the here and now!

My week will be packed with the usual combination of rehearsals, performances, shopping, exploring the city's hidden gems (and, of course, finding the perfect cup of tea!) ā€“ the kind of week that only New York City can offer!

My pink tutu dreams are just beginning.

Till next time, Emma xx
