Pink Tutu Blog: New York City - Post #937 (Monday, 20th May 2013)

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, and it’s Monday morning in the Big Apple. You know what that means – it’s time for another Pink Tutu Blog post! I’ve had such an amazing weekend here in New York City – it was truly magical.

Firstly, let’s talk fashion. My latest find – a stunning pink tulle skirt from a little boutique in Greenwich Village. The colour is so vibrant, it practically screams “New York City!”, and the tulle is just heavenly. It’s the perfect addition to my ever-growing tutu collection and has already made appearances in Central Park and even on a date with a handsome chap (more about that later!)

I spent Saturday morning exploring the fabulous Met Museum. The Costume Institute’s exhibition, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”, left me utterly mesmerized. The designs were breathtaking, pushing boundaries with exquisite fabric, daring silhouettes, and a distinct sense of drama. It was like walking through a fairytale, and the theatrical element truly spoke to the ballerina in me!

Speaking of ballets, the highlight of my weekend was, without a doubt, seeing the New York City Ballet’s performance of "Swan Lake" at Lincoln Center. The dancers were spectacular! The power, grace, and fluidity of their movements took my breath away. I found myself lost in the story of the Swan Queen, longing for her escape from the dark forces and wishing for her happy ending.

I confess, I couldn’t resist a little bit of a ballet-themed outfit for the performance. My signature pink tutu, of course, paired with a sparkly, emerald green crop top and sleek black ballet flats. I couldn't help but feel a little like the Swan Queen herself, even if just for a few hours!

After the performance, I strolled through the streets of the Upper West Side, feeling all that beautiful artistry swirl inside me. I stopped for a quick bite of street-side pizza – one of my absolute New York favourites – and soaked up the city’s electric energy.

The next day, I woke up feeling ready for a whirlwind of adventure! The plan for Sunday? Exploring Times Square – that dazzling, vibrant hub of New York City. The flashing lights, bustling crowds, and infectious energy drew me in like a moth to a flame. I found myself getting swept up in the vibrant atmosphere.

The bright lights and cacophony of Times Square may seem intimidating, but once you delve into the chaos, there’s so much magic to discover. The Broadway billboards are incredible works of art, showcasing iconic performances and captivating stories.

One thing I learned – New Yorkers love to share! They’re always happy to help with directions or recommendations. I was completely lost trying to find the nearest subway station when a friendly taxi driver stopped to offer his advice. Turns out, it’s actually a walkable distance from Times Square, a good excuse to enjoy the colourful, eclectic streets!

I treated myself to some decadent shopping at a delightful vintage clothing store. You know how much I love anything old-school glamorous, so finding a beautiful vintage silk scarf and a pair of sparkling Art Deco earrings was a dream come true!

Speaking of dreams, you might be wondering how I manage to afford all this fabulous fun in the big city? Well, I actually fund my travels through ballet! I work as a freelance performer, which means I get to share the magic of dance and make a little money at the same time. It's not always easy, but the opportunity to perform, the love of ballet, and my travel bug are a powerful force, driving me on!

And you know what? It’s worth every ounce of energy and effort, because my passion for ballet helps me discover all these wonderful experiences. Each performance is a new opportunity, a chance to connect with audiences, share the art of movement, and, yes, fuel my dream adventures.

So there you have it, folks! Another weekend of New York magic captured for my Pink Tutu Blog. My week is only just beginning, and I already have exciting things planned! From a workshop at the School of American Ballet to a romantic dinner date in the Village, I know it will be a whirlwind of pink tulle and New York adventures. I can't wait to share all the fun and fashion with you!

Remember, lovelies, if you're ever feeling adventurous, embrace the magic and jump into a tutu. Let your inner ballerina shine and make your dreams a reality! And be sure to check back next Monday for another instalment of Pink Tutu Blog - see you then! xx
