Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #936 – Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple!

Hello my lovely Tutu-ers! It’s Monday, and you know what that means... drum roll ... it’s Pink Tutu Blog NYC time! This week, I’m writing to you from the bustling heart of New York City, where dreams are as big as the skyscrapers and the energy is as vibrant as a…well, a bright pink tutu!

This past week has been a whirlwind of tutus, glitter, and a whole lot of Manhattan magic. I've been lucky enough to spend a few days in this iconic city, and I have to tell you, New Yorkers really get the pink tutu vibe! I spotted more tutus on the streets of Manhattan this week than I’ve seen in a whole year in Derbyshire.

The Subway – My Tutu-ing Travel Companion

My first order of business after landing at JFK was, of course, to get myself to my hotel. I love exploring a city like New York using its metro system, and this trip was no exception. I took a nice long ride on the train from Queens right into the heart of Manhattan – all in my beautiful pink tutu! I love how people watch. There were so many amused faces. Honestly, I’m not sure they expected a ballerina in a pink tutu riding the metro. It’s not the average commute for a New Yorker! But then again, New York City has always been about embracing the unusual, the unique, and the bold - and that's just what I try to bring with my pink tutu adventures.

Tutu-ific Fashion Finds

I wouldn’t be true to my blog, or to myself, if I didn’t mention my shopping exploits! Let's be honest, shopping in NYC is like a fairytale come to life, particularly for a girl like me with a passion for tutus and pretty things. I spent the afternoon getting lost in the beautiful stores and boutiques that line the city's streets. The sheer volume of pink things available for purchase is breathtaking, honestly.

I picked up a brand-new pair of fuchsia stilettos, a silk pink scarf that will be my new favourite accessory (tutus and silk scarfs… what more could a girl need!), and a gorgeous floral headband – it’s got roses, hydrangeas, and all sorts! I even discovered this charming little shop full of gorgeous tutus… oh my goodness! Imagine a whole shop dedicated to tutus… pink ones of course, and sparkly ones, and even black ones with a touch of pink! The shopkeeper, a wonderful lady named Grace, is also an accomplished ballerina – can you believe it?

I couldn’t leave the shop without buying one for myself, but more importantly, it was so exciting to see all those tutu-tastic possibilities! Let’s face it, you never know what gems you'll find in a bustling city like New York. It’s always worth the hunt.

Broadway Dreams and Dancing Feet

Oh, to be in New York City for a night at the theatre… I could spend every single night here. Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a Broadway show, so I caught a spectacular performance of "The Phantom of the Opera."

The dancing in that show! I almost had to pull out my own tutu and join the ballet scene! If you’ve never been, I highly recommend the Phantom of the Opera. And, oh the costumes… just stunning. If I could pull off wearing a masked ball gown in my day-to-day life, I totally would! But I'll leave those fancy dresses to the stage stars.

Dance, Dance, Dance

Even on the go in the big apple, I make sure to sneak in a ballet class here and there. This time I visited the Steps on Broadway studio in the heart of Manhattan. This studio is seriously gorgeous, but don’t let the beautiful spaces and shiny dance floors fool you – the teachers here are as serious and demanding as they come. They’re all professional dancers, and the classes are truly challenging – just what a pink-tutu-loving girl like myself needs to keep my muscles and my heart on fire.

As you may know, I often get asked where I find time to balance my passion for ballet with my love of traveling and everything else. Well, truth be told, I’m never without my travel bag and, most importantly, my dance shoes. In the midst of a city tour or a visit to a museum, there are so many spaces, from grand ballrooms to rooftop gardens, that are perfect for impromptu pirouettes and grand jetés! My motto is: wherever life takes me, I find the time and the space to dance. I don't want to just travel and sightsee, I want to feel the rhythm of the city with my own steps, my own tutu-twirling movements!

More Than Just a Tutu: Embracing My Dreams

I truly believe that even in a city like New York, with its hustle and bustle and millions of dreams chasing around in its corners, there is always space for a pink tutu! It represents not just fashion or a love for ballet, but a commitment to joy, individuality, and the beauty of dreams.

My pink tutu isn't just an accessory - it’s a symbol of my personal expression, a reminder to embrace the whimsical and embrace myself. And I’ve discovered that this philosophy resonates with people all over the world. Even in the heart of New York City!

And that's why, my darling Tutu-ers, I invite you all to join me on this journey. To put on your own tutu (pink or otherwise!), embrace your dreams, and let the world see your true, unique colours. We can all inspire each other to be more vibrant, more courageous, more ourselves. The world needs more tutus! It's that simple!

Until next time, my friends, keep your hearts full of pirouettes, and may your days be filled with tutus, sparkles, and laughter!

Yours in tutus,

Emma
