"She Danced in New York City..."
Hello, darling tutu-lovers!
It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! This time, New York City embraced me with open arms and a generous sprinkling of magic, which I’m now overflowing with and desperate to share with all of you.
So, picture this: Derbyshire girl, with a suitcase full of tutus, waltzing through the heart of New York City. I think I’d have made even a cynical cabbie crack a smile. This city truly embraces all forms of expression, and when it comes to fashion, New Yorkers are some of the most open and adventurous I’ve encountered.
Let’s rewind to Friday morning. I arrived in the bustling heart of Manhattan, ready to attack this exciting weekend with my signature pink tutu energy. You can always spot a girl from Derbyshire in a crowd: she’s the one beaming with unbridled excitement and, yes, rocking a pink tutu, regardless of the occasion. I couldn't help it! My latest creation is a confection of soft pink tulle, shimmering like rose quartz under the New York sunshine.
My mission? To soak up all the wonderful art, fashion, and theatrical experiences New York had to offer, leaving no single cultural gem unturned. And you know me, darlings – my motto is to “Pink it up!”, so you better believe I brought out my most glamorous, blush-worthy tutus for this spectacular city.
My first stop? Naturally, it was the fabulous Ballet Arts Center, a ballet studio tucked away in the heart of midtown. A haven for aspiring dancers and professionals alike, it hummed with the energy of those who move with grace and passion. I stepped onto the gleaming wooden floor, twirling a few delicate pirouettes with the studio's instructor, a charming gentleman named Michael. I even squeezed in a few leaps and jetés to impress him, of course. After a wonderful ballet session, Michael told me to keep following my dreams of spreading the pink tutu joy around the world. Now, that's an inspiring message, wouldn't you say?
Afterwards, it was time for some retail therapy. Now, the city never fails to ignite a passion for fashion in my soul! I started off with a visit to Bloomingdale's, their impressive array of clothes, shoes and accessories left me utterly bewildered! The perfect place for a girl to find that elusive dream dress or a pair of divine ballet flats. I even scored a divine pink satin ribbon for my newest tutu, because there's never enough pink!
But what’s a trip to New York without exploring its vibrant streets? So, I did what any self-respecting tutu-wearing traveller would do – I donned my favourite tutu, paired it with a chic white t-shirt and a touch of my favourite pink lipstick and explored!
It's funny, I can’t even remember exactly how many miles I covered walking the iconic avenues of New York City this weekend, but I know I definitely put in my miles, with each step filling my soul with an indescribable sense of joy.
One of my favorite stops was Bryant Park. You know me, I'm always a sucker for a beautiful garden, but this park had a truly enchanting atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of bustling Manhattan, it offered a little sanctuary, perfect for watching the city’s beautiful inhabitants stroll by.
The evening found me immersed in the heart of Broadway, that glorious boulevard where dreams take flight and stories unfold before your very eyes. My chosen show for the evening was a truly spectacular ballet performance. The choreography was exquisite and the music carried me on a magical journey. There was something truly magical about seeing the sheer artistry and talent in action, a tangible reminder that beauty can be found everywhere, especially in the realm of ballet.
After the performance, I wandered through Times Square. The energy was electrifying, and there were so many amazing, brightly colored neon signs I felt like I’d stepped into a fantastical movie scene! And speaking of fantasies, the beautiful Broadway street performers took the word "glamour" to a whole new level, transforming the already impressive streets into an extraordinary spectacle. They all had me enthralled! I felt inspired by their passion and artistic flair, and knew right away that I had to start incorporating some Broadway glamor into my pink tutu creations.
On Saturday, I awoke with renewed energy for exploring even more of New York City’s hidden treasures. First, I took a jaunt through Central Park, this vast, green oasis is a truly stunning place. I wandered through the vibrant paths, pausing for moments of awe at the beautifully crafted fountains and breathtaking floral displays. You could feel the city’s pulse, hear its song, but here, nestled within this green sanctuary, it was almost as though the world slowed down, allowing me to just breathe and embrace the beauty all around me.
As the day wore on, it was time to embrace another one of New York’s true icons, The Empire State Building! The city’s towering, iconic structure is something that every visitor to New York should add to their must-see list, so naturally I had to join the throngs of other enthusiasts, eager for an incredible view. I spent a little time sipping champagne from the rooftop bar with a couple of fellow pink tutu enthusiasts, a rather flamboyant and eccentric duo who just happened to be travelling with a massive inflatable pink tutu. They loved my latest design – I was flattered, to say the least, especially considering their own dedication to all things pink.
As the weekend began to draw to a close, I spent Sunday morning strolling along Fifth Avenue, marveling at the exquisite architecture and of course, absorbing the sights and sounds of all the fabulous window displays. I have a weakness for luxurious displays of silk and satin! This day also called for some indulgence – a perfectly decadent afternoon tea, featuring an exquisite collection of dainty finger sandwiches, delicious pastries, and, of course, plenty of tea. After all, there is no more delightful way to savour a truly English tradition in the midst of a dazzling city. It was the perfect way to indulge myself before returning back to Derbyshire.
My final afternoon found me back on the subway, waving goodbye to New York as it zipped past the windows. The vibrant city life flashed before me, a collage of memories: dazzling lights, street art, music, laughter, and, of course, countless tutu moments! It was all captured forever in my memory bank.
This week, as I re-settle into my routine and begin work on a new creation, I will continue to embrace the “pink it up” mantra in my own quiet corner of Derbyshire, and I will definitely carry a piece of the New York energy with me.
And for you, darlings? If you are planning to visit New York City anytime soon, do add a pink tutu to your packing list! And remember to make a few moments for yourselves to savour its beauties.
Stay stylish, stay lovely, and never forget –
Pink is the new black.
Until next Monday,
Emma
