Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #968 – Twirling in the Big Apple (Monday 2013-12-23)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, writing to you from the vibrant, bustling streets of New York City. The city that never sleeps… and neither do I, fuelled by the magic of dance, fashion, and of course, pink!

This week marks my ninth visit to this fabulous metropolis. And what a whirlwind it’s been! I arrived last Friday and immediately hit the ground running, in my most fabulous pink tutu, of course.

Speaking of tutus, my pink-hued wardrobe has definitely gotten a boost this week. It wouldn’t be a trip to New York without a trip to Bergdorf Goodman! I'm sure I'm not alone in loving those extravagant window displays. This time they had a whole display dedicated to ballerinas and my heart skipped a beat. My bag, by the way, is absolutely overflowing with new finds – gorgeous new sequined ballet flats, a pink feathered boa for those winter chills, and a stunning tutu just perfect for my New York Christmas performance.

Speaking of the holidays, there is something truly magical about the city at Christmas. Everywhere you look there are twinkling lights, festive decorations, and the unmistakable scent of pine and cinnamon filling the air. You can’t walk more than five feet without stumbling across a Christmas market selling hot cocoa, pretzels, and even a gingerbread house (I’ll definitely be visiting them with my troupe of ballerinas on Thursday!).

Ballet Bliss

On Saturday, I saw a wonderful performance at the New York City Ballet, a beautiful contemporary work. The choreography was breath-taking and the dancers’ energy and skill were simply captivating. Afterward, I found myself wandering around Lincoln Center, enjoying the city lights, the excited buzz from people coming out of performances and restaurants, and trying to remember where I put my little pink ballet shoes. I swear they must have a life of their own!

Then on Sunday, it was off to a Broadway show – The Lion King! What an absolute spectacle! My goodness, the costumes are truly breathtaking. As you know, I love all things sparkly and the vibrant, colourful, intricate designs of the animals took my breath away. You'd think after all these years living with my dance troupe, nothing would shock me. But let me tell you, it certainly did. They say New York can offer anything – I must agree. I love those giant puppets that represent the animals! They’re absolutely awe-inspiring.

New York, New York… The Food

No trip to New York would be complete without a culinary adventure! So, naturally, I ventured to Chelsea Market. Oh my, darling. My tummy is definitely regretting it but, the deliciousness is just beyond compare! From lobster rolls, freshly-baked bagels, and spicy kimchi, to delicious pasta, and the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had (the size of my head!).

My tastebuds are completely spoilt! It's the type of foodie adventure you can only have in this melting pot of culture!

I know you’re probably thinking, “Emma, is the ballet still on the menu for this week?" You know it is! After all, my trip to New York is not complete without visiting one of my favourite studios – Steps on Broadway! There I will join a class or two, perfect my pirouettes, and try to remember how to use my arms.

The New York Ballet scene is simply electrifying! I adore the energy and creativity found at the numerous ballet schools and studios all across the city. My journey here to see dance performances and learn from the best has made all the late nights in the rehearsal room worth it. And hey, who knew dancing in the streets of the Big Apple was a thing?! It really is a dance-filled city!

A Peek Inside My Life:

Speaking of all that dancing, I have been keeping super busy as you can probably imagine! From performing at fundraisers for local community centres to teaching the art of pirouette-perfection to aspiring young dancers at after-school clubs back in Derbyshire. My life is certainly never boring!

If you are ever looking for inspiration in life, darling, let me give you this piece of advice – Just embrace it, and always remember that anything is possible. The world truly is your oyster, as long as you dare to twirl!

I must be going now. My dear dance instructor back in Derbyshire wants me to be back for Christmas to perform our annual Christmas recital – It’s quite a spectacle, I promise! I shall share some photos with you next week!

Until next Monday, darlings, twirl away! Stay glamorous, always be fabulous, and remember: "Pink is the colour of confidence"

And oh! Have a look at this gorgeous outfit I'm wearing in this week’s photo, it is one of the pieces I bought this week – just imagine the perfect pink for Christmas!

Love, Emma xxx
